Portals
Harry's POV
Lightning fast, Zach raised his sword and cut the arrow in two. Why can't I do that??
Then he started fighting. I was so in awe with his amazing techniques that I almost forgot to fight myself. But the zombie that attacked me was a good reminder. I turned, slashed, and it disappeared with a satisfactory groan. I turned and did the same to the next mob. And the next, and the next.
But they just kept coming.
I heard Zach's voice over the growl of zombies and the rattle of skeletons.
"So many mobs together like this is unnatural! They've been put here. Maybe to guard something!"
"Guard what?!" I yelled back as a skeleton fell under my sword.
"I don't know!!!" Zach's voice shook with desperation, and I knew he was tired like I was. We couldn't keep this up forever.
Suddenly, behind the tall trees of the jungle, shades of gold began to shine through the leaves. They shimmered and lit up the previous darkness; and it couldn't be more needed. Slowly, all the mobs that had just been trying to kill us started burning in the morning sun. They tried to run to shelter, but it was too late. In a matter of minutes they were all gone.
Zach pushed on forward, and as much as I wanted to take a break and eat something, I followed. We only walked on for a few minutes before we found the place we were looking for.
The clearing, even though in broad daylight, had an eerie shadow cast over it. Zach began running around, practically in circles, searching the grass and leaves for any signs of Nya. I joined it, too, but it took hours before either of us found anything worthwhile.
"Harry, come have a look at this."
Zach was examining something in his hand. I went over to look.
"What is it?" He asked me pleadingly.
It was a deep red powder. An ugly colour; but it was surprisingly warm. I remembered back to my old lessons in school... The teacher said something about this...
"I think it's netherack." I said finally. "A very small amount of it. Sometimes netherack blocks leave traces of powder."
Zach's eyes grew wide. "You mean..."
I nodded. "Whoever, whatever has Nya right now, came from the Nether."
I expected a reaction from Zach; for him to stomp his foot in fustration or to break down in tears or something of the sort. But he just clenched his fists and said, "Well, we know where to go now."
***
Luckily, Zach (for some odd reason) had plenty of obsidian on him. And luckily I knew how to build a portal.
I began instructing Zach as to where to place the dark rocks, and I asked him where in the world he got all this obsidian from.
"Won it in some duel along the East Coast of Sorrile."
I felt my mouth drop open. Zach's been to Sorrile? Sorrile was one of Minecraftia's most beautiful countries; it had everything. Beaches, forests, cities, you name it. I have always wanted to go there.
Plus, Sorrile had some of the most brilliant swordsmen in the world. And he WON a duel there.
"H-how long did you stay in Sorrile?" I asked him in awe.
He shook his head. "Not long. Only visited once or twice, had a duel here and there."
Just then, he clapped his hands together. "Done."
I stared at the large, looming gate of stone in front of me. I gulped.
"You can still back out, you know. It's not too late." Zach asked me as he pulled out his flint and steel.
I shook my head. "I came this far, I ain't gonna quit now." My voice was strong and firm, hiding the fear that hid within me. But I was not going to back down. I would only regret it later.
Zach smiled, and flicked his blonde hair out of his face. In a flash, a swirling purple pattern appeared. Zach nodded to me, and I nodded back.
I counted down in my head, and jumped.
