Life As I Know It

"Your whole life?" All Might asked with wide eyes, "What on Earth could he have been doing that would have kept you there your whole life?" I looked away, unable to answer.

"Let's move away from All For One," Tsukauchi suggested, "The other League members, what can you tell us about them?" I thought slowly about what to say, thinking of certain memories so some things weren't as painful as others.

"Kurogiri and Twice..." I said quietly, my eyes fixated on the ceiling, "They never hurt me. Kurogiri brought me food and Twice brought me... puzzles. He'd stay and do them with me, and he always tried to make me laugh..."

"Make you laugh?" Tsukauchi asked and I nodded, explaining how he would talk to himself with these two voices he had. One kind and light, the other heavy and dreadful. It seemed those voices didn't get along too well. "What about the others?"

"Toga and Spinner listened to Tomura when he gave orders..." I said, "Compress too. Dabi didn't... he'd..." I swallowed hard, "Burn me... without a second thought... and Tomura..." I choked on the words and shook my head, I couldn't finish that thought.

"It's okay," He told me, "I've got a pretty decent idea of what was happening now. Thank you. You were very brave through everything." I didn't say anything more and I didn't nod either.

"I'll meet up with you again, Tsukauchi," All Might promised once the two of them had finished talking with each other. That old man All Might had called Grand Torino left long ago, long before Tsukauchi did, and now the room was empty and still with only us.

The steady beeping of the monitor relaxed me now, and the new sounds I was hearing weren't as terrifying as before. They came from outside a door that would open and close for me if I wanted to leave. From outside a room I was not trapped in.

"Do you mind if I open the blinds? It's a little dark in here, don't you think?" I looked up at All Might who was standing near the far wall, slits of white covering the upper half of the wall as the light faded in through the bottom and top of each panel. I stayed silent and hung my head down, I had no idea what laid beyond them, so how was I supposed to answer him?

"You can ask me anything," All Might replied to my silence, "Fifteen years is a long time to be in the dark about the world... so I understand if you have questions or are unsure of how to answer things." I looked up at him, my hair shading my face, something I've grown to find comfortable and secure with. I wanted to ask him what blinds were and what was on the other side, but more than that... there was something bigger that I had to ask him first.

"O-Outside?" I swallowed hard and turned my head away, "I-I've never been outside before..."

"R-Really?" He asked surprised. There was that cautious silence between us as he headed back to his bed, leaving the blinds as they were. "I'll ask the staff and see if they can let us into the garden later. It would be nice for your first time outside."

"G-Garden?" I asked and looked over, a flickering gleam of hope in my voice.

"That's right," He replied, "It's got flowers and plants, I think the one here even has a baby river added in. Sort of like a stream of water." It sounded beautiful... like something out of a story she used to tell me.

"C-Can we see it... s-sunrise?" I coughed out and pressed my hand against my chest as I breathed, tired and shakingly.

"The sun only reaches it in the afternoon..." All Might answers, disappointed himself, "But the sun hits the UA Garden all day. Maybe we can take a drive there once you're feeling better."

"UA..." I say quietly, and before I could ask, he's explaining it to me. Telling me of a school that trains them to do things like what he did. A place to make them heroes. He told me that Bakugou goes there, and so do the people who rescued him, and tried to get me back. "Baku...gou..." I took in a breath and leaned back. I've never really had to talk to people aside from basic things like yes, no, and good, so I had to think... really think to get this sentence out. "C-Can I... see... Baku-Bakugou?" I looked at him and this childish wide smile was all he had, happy that I was trying. That I remembered him after everything I'd been through and wanted to see him nonetheless.

"You must understand, that when you first met Young Bakugou he was taken from the people who love and care about him. It's going to be a while before you can see him again," All Might said and I felt so... disappointed. If he was never there, would I have even been saved? He was the first to reach for me, and he helped me... no, Bakugou protected me. "But you'll be able to see him one day. It's just going to take time." I nodded, understanding that after everything, that was something I could wait for. "Can I ask you a question?" I nodded again. "What's your Quirk? If you know what that is."

"M-My... Quirk..." I thought for a minute, taking my right arm in hand and feeling the bandages that wrapped around it. For as long as I can remember, I've had this marking on my body, just like my Mother's. She told me once the animal was called a dragon, and our Quirk was the same, but... I've never used it before... Not in a way I would remember it. "I... don't know."

"That's alright," All Might said right away.

"Why?" I asked just as quickly. I needed to know why he asked, maybe I used it on accident. Did something that I didn't mean to, something that could help me figure it out.

"Grand Torino says your arm and eyes were glowing during the fight before you went unconscious and when you screamed for me to win, there was a large light behind me and a loud roar," He told me, "I had a feeling you might not know what it was, and we're not sure if it's all connected since the roar and the light were after you went out, but I told him I'd ask."

"Oh..." I said quietly, playing with the white sheet over my legs. Across the room, the door was opened again, quicker this time as it slammed against the wall in time with a sudden loud beep.

"Ah, Principal Nezu, Aizawa," All Might said with a smile, "If you could, please don't throw the door open like that." He wouldn't say why, but with one look from the man who had just walked in and the smaller white creature beside him, everyone knew he had said that because of me.

"Apologizes, All Might," The small white creature said, "We had no idea you were sharing a room with the young girl who was rescued."

"Grand Torino requested it after seeing how she reacted to him," All Might replied, "Thought a familiar face might help." It did... but these new faces did not show it. People had been coming in and out all day, people in white coats, the one in brown, even Grand Torino, and other people who I didn't even get to see. It was something I wasn't prepared for, and the thought of even more scared me.

"At least she's awake," The man said. His hair was long and black, something wrapping loosely around his shoulders as he walked up to me. My body trembling more the closer he got, and when he reached, all I could see was Tomura's hand, coming for me with a power that could destroy me in a single moment. My hands blocked my face and my knees hit my chest, the pain of my wounds barely even a feeling to me anymore. "Uh-Hmmm..." I slowly watched him lower his hand.

"We brought Recovery Girl with us," The creature said and walked between our beds, "We thought it best that after everything that's happened she would like to see her family as soon as possible."

"We also thought she might be able to help heal some of your injuries," The man said and joined the small creature between us.

"That's very considerate of you two but-"

"None," I said, clinging my legs to my chest with my arms, my voice cutting All Might short. I didn't need someone to speak for me... not always, and All Might seemed to trust these two more than those in the white coats... Slowly... I could trust them too. I had to learn.

"Pardon?" The white creature said and walked over cautiously towards me. He stopped a few feet away, knowing I didn't want him closer. He gave me all the time I needed as I thought of the words in my answer and how to say them.

"I... don't... have any..." I said carefully. Speaking should be, and is second nature to most, but if you don't practice, it's easy to forget.

"Well then," The white creature said and thought for a minute, "Why don't we bring you to UA?"

"Is that such a good idea, Sir?" The man asked, his eyes glancing my way. He looked, tired... "Think rationally about this."

"I believe it will be the right call in the end," They replied, "Think of this as a way we can keep her safe while at the same time make sure she can get back to a normal life. After everything that has happened to her, I feel helping her reach back to other people her age could be beneficial for her."

"All Might, let's continue this outside," The man said and left the room.

"I can agree there, if you will All Might," The creature said and followed right behind the man.

"I'll be right back, just out in the hall," All Might told me, following slowly behind them. No... please... Leave the door opened...

I swallowed hard as the door shut because this feeling now... was life as I would know it... where I would continue to stay locked behind closed doors. Where that small, cold room, was just like everything else... the difference here, is the people who would close that door.

There was another harsh sudden beep.

Long.

Tortured.

Unending.
