Costumes

"Hey, Nana!" Midoryia called out as I poked my head out of the changing room. There were barely any people at this time of day, lucky me... it was better than earlier. "Mr. Aizawa asked me to bring you to the Development Studio so you can fill out your Costume Request Form."

"O-Oh, thanks," I said quietly and stepped through the door. Any confidence I had during training, had set with the sun.

"I saw you training a little bit," He said, "It looked like you were doing really well." I nodded and kept my head low. "You and I are basically in the same boat with starting from scratch." He laughed nervously as I stared at him. "Ah, I should explain, see my arms here got really messed up a few fights ago, so I can't use them much anymore. I'm trying to find a way to not use them so much.

"Oh," I said, "I mostly just kick stuff." He chuckled at my response.

"Hey, can I ask, what were you and All Might talking about earlier? You both seemed deep in thought about something." I looked at him and tilted my head, he was stuck in his own thoughts along with mine.

"My Mom..." I told him so quietly I wasn't sure I said anything at all, "She was who we talked about..."

"Your Mom?" He asked, "Was she trapped with you too?" We were silent for a while, I didn't know how to answer him, despite telling All Might beforehand. She was with me... free at one point... gone at another.

"She's been free for a long time..." I finally told him and looked out the long windows to the setting sun, "Thank you... for the puzzle..."

"Uh-H-How did you know I got that for you?" He asked with a big stutter and red face. I dug the note that was on it out of my pocket and showed it to him.

"I don't read well..." I said, telling him part of the truth, "So I asked Present Mic what this said. I wanted to thank whoever gave it to me."

"Oh," He said and smiled shyly, "Well, I only got it because I remember All Might said you liked puzzles and he told me you really like sunrises." I nodded and he gave me a bright smile, returning to his own thoughts while I was trapped in my own. Once we reached the studio, he stood there and stared from the large iron doors to his hands, completely forgetting that I was there beside him.

"Hey there, Deku!" Someone screamed from down the hall, "I was just wondering where you were!" Uraraka.

"Don't run in the halls!" Iida yelled from behind her.

"You here for costume improvements too?" Uraraka asked.

"Oh, Urarak-" As Midoryia opened the door a loud, sudden blast and a cloud of smoke blew past us. I couldn't help but let out a loud scream as I was flung back by the blast. My back hit the glass so hard that it cracked under me, leaving a sharp pain on my back and cutting up my right arm. The smoke-filled my lungs, leaving me coughing and dropping to my knees in the thick cloud of dust. I could see the golden glow from the markings on my arm like back at... Kamino Ward... they appeared sharply through the thick black cloud, but the glow quickly vanished once the cloud was gone.

"Nana, are you alright?" Iida said and ran over to me while Uraraka helped Midoriya and some pink-haired girl who had fallen on him. I nodded but stumbled back to the ground when he took my arm in his hand. "Ah, I'm sorry!"

"I-It's fine..." I said and stood on my own. My head turning to the window that was absolutely fine. I was sure I heard it crack, and my arm had cut marks on it too, didn't it?

"Sorry about the sudden explosion!" The pink-haired girl said, "It's been a while huh? Class 1A right? Uh... yeah, I forgot all your names already."

"I-Izuku Midoriya," He mumbled, his face bright red.

"I'm Tenya Iida!" He shouted, "The man you tricked into being a walking advertisement during the Sports Festival!"

"Never heard of ya!" The girl shouted with a wide smile, "OOH! You're new!" She came close to my face and I snapped back, my body trembling and shaking the closer she got. "No costume yet... OH! You're that new transfer!" She was so loud... so close... "Mr. Powerloader said we might be getting some new design in!" She looked me up and down, my body trembling under her gaze as she took in a deep breath. "Well, I'm busy developing new babies! So, bye!" She just... walked away, a breath of relief let me.

"Wait a sec, please," Midoryia said and reached for her, "I wanted to ask Mr. Powerloader about improving some elements of my costume." That stopped her, and she seemed much more enthusiastic about who and why we were all there now.

"WHAT?!" She yelled and got right back in his face, while I hid behind Iida, my body trembling so much. "YOU CAN COUNT ME IN!"

"Hatsume!" Someone yelled from inside, "It's fine for you to be in and out of the studio all day since you're in the dorms. But if you stop following my instructions and keep running wild in here, you're banned." It was another teacher... I was sure of it from the way he dressed.

"It's alright," Iida whispered to me, "Mr. Powerloader's here, so he should be a help to keep Hatsume out of your face. I'll do my best to help with that as well."

"O-Okay..." I still stayed close to him while we went inside... I've learned a lot of things... but importantly, I've learned that I can trust the people who tried to save me. Despite not knowing him a lot, Iida was one of them.

"Whoa! This looks like a Top Secret Lab!" Midoryia said with a big smile.

"Now, hand over your instructions, please," Mr. Powerloader said, "They should have been with the case your costume was delivered in. As for the new girl with you, I'll have to talk to you about your costume after the others since you don't have a set design and it will take much longer."

I understood that and began to wander around the room after that, ignoring what the others were saying and doing. That's what I do, to get used to a place... sometimes people too, a strange way... but it helps. Yet, before I knew it, everyone was yelling and shouting left and right... Hatsume's inventions really were something else I found.

"Sorry guys," Mr. Powerloader said, "I'm trying to get her to look past her own devices, "You know... if you all are aspiring to be heroes, then you should treasure your relationship with her. You'll need her once you've been made Pros."

"Those are her's then...." I said quietly and pointed to the corner. The pile of stuff that was stacked one on another. It was a lot, but each of them looked like they could do quite a bit to help.

"Yep," He replied, "Those are all the support items Hatsume's made since starting school here. She's always inventing. Even when school's not in session. I've seen many Support Course Students in my career, but I'm telling you, this girl is something special."

"She made all of this in such a short time?"Midoryia asked, "That's nuts."

"That girl is unafraid of failure," Mr. Powerloader said. Unafraid of failure... I could see that from her, in the constant smile she wore and the pile of items she had made... She was ready for anything... anything.

It took a while longer for everyone to get done with their costume upgrades, and then after, that it was my turn. I told Iida, Uraraka, and Midoryia that I'd meet them back at the dorms. I might have been new... but I did know how to get to certain places on my own.

"Before we go over your costume, Detective Tsukauchi brought this in," Mr. Powerloader handed me a small blue box with a red bow, "He said it was buried in the rubble of the fight, but it has your name on it. Once he heard you were coming into the Hero Course he sent it in, he thought you might want to add it to your costume." Carefully I opened the box, my eyes glossing over with tears as I realized what it was. It was my Mom's hairpiece... something someone gave her a long time ago. She, of course, never let All For One see it, and when she knew her time was short she gave it to me so I could hold onto her. I hid it in our old room and completely forgot about it.

This piece was special to me, not just because of her, but because my Dad gave it to her. You could tie the top of it into your hair, and the bottom was a green line that was decorated with eight golden flowers and five small blue leaves. The five leaves were for her name and the eight flowers were for my Dad.

"T-Thank you," I said and wiped the tears from my eyes. He sat there for a moment before sliding a piece of paper between us.

"Alright, so do you have any thoughts about your costume?" He asked me as I closed my eyes, fidgeting with the bow of the box while I thought. I remember drawing up costumes with my Mom once or twice, all inspired by her costume... but after everything that's happened... I have even more inspiration for it. I have people that I wanted to keep with me... in ways, I knew I might not ever be able to.

So, I took a breath and began to describe my costume to Mr. Powerloader, while Hatsume worked in the background behind us. The process took about an hour. "That should be good, so this is going to be the base sketch of what it looks like. We'll put into account your long hair as well." He showed me the drawing of... me... as a hero... "The last thing that Mr. Aizawa asked me to do was get your Hero Name."

"My Hero Name?" I asked.

"It's a way to mask your identity to others," He explained, "Something the people will call you." In my head, I knew... there were two names I wanted to use and I didn't know what to do about either.

"Can I run it by All Might first?" I asked and he nodded. Letting me head out without another word. Tightly in my hand, I clutched the blue box that held the remnants of my Mom and my Dad in my hands.

As I stared at the sky outside in the night. The stars shining down on me, somewhere among them, I found her. I found the woman who was the Hero and the Villian and the Mom I had known forever. I could see Robyn Hood standing in this world again... and with this hairpiece, I had once more... so, could her daughter.

Everyone was asleep back at the dorms, and despite how tired my body was, I didn't have it in my to sleep just yet. I knew deep inside I'd see All For One in my dreams, I would see Tomura reaching out for me, calling me to his side. That's the real reason I didn't want the others to wait for me because if I stayed down here and they went upstairs, they would worry about me.

I laid on my side and pulled my legs into my chest, hiding my face behind them as I curled into the desperate little ball I had always slept in. Despite how brave and unafraid I may have acted today, that didn't change anything else. I was constantly afraid of failure and terrified that I'd have to return to All For One someday. The low trembles of my body, the constant asking of questions and answering things I didn't understand... all of that was to hide it, because the fear he planted in me was still growing stronger than anything else.
