Tw: Language, violence.

Weeks after Ahsoka had left, Kara glanced up as someone knocked on the door. She put down the blaster she had been cleaning and went to open the door.

A clone with a familiar tattoo was standing there and he grimaced at her.

"How are you not dead?" Kara scrambled to grab Alex, clutching him to her chest. "Actually- no! I don't care! Get out of my house before I use you as a target for shooting practise!"

He held out a foot, catching the door before she could slam it shut. "They're coming for you."

Kara froze. "Who is?"

"The Empire. Rex. They're coming for you and Alex," Fives said, a hint of desperation to his voice. "Please, get out of here."

"Why are you helping me?" Kara questioned. She warily let Fives inside, holding up the blaster she had been cleaning.

"I-I don't know," Fives confessed. "I see all the other clones blindly following orders, and it doesn't make sense. They don't think about the Jedi that were killed or the ones we betrayed. Maybe there's just something wrong with me."

"No, there's nothing wrong with you," Kara firmly told him. "There's something wrong with the rest of them. Like Rex. His mind is twisted and he's sick and-"

"Can we hurry this up?" Fives interrupted. "I'm supposed to be scouting ahead while the others get here to bring you in."

"Of course." Kara handed him Alex and pulled out her emergency bag. It was packed with necessities in case of times like this. "Let's go. We need to get on a transport as soon as possible."

"We?"

"I thought you didn't agree with the Empire," Kara slowly said.

Fives sighed and nearly dropped Alex on the ground, eyes widening as he caught him. "Listen, I really wish I could, but I feel like I can help my brothers. Maybe I can talk some sense into them."

Kara tightened the grip on the bag, taking Alex back. She forced a smile. "I understand. Goodbye, then."

Kara grabbed a comm device from the bag, switching it on. "Ahsoka, I'm not sure if you can hear me, but I need your help. I don't have the credits to leave, but I need to go. I hate to ask for help, but please help."

"Command- Ahsoka's alive?" Fives excitedly asked, eyes glinting with delight.

"Yeah. Hey, what happened at the Jedi temple? I thought the 501st was killed," Kara said and frowned at the comm when no response came.

"Some were. But then Lord Vader said something that made us clones stop fighting." Lines formed on Fives' face as he tried to remember. "I think he wanted us to order milkshakes? It was all kind of a blur."

There was a knock on the door.

"It's probably the rest of the ones sent to capture you!" Fives whispered.

"What kind of attack team knocks on the front door?" Kara hissed under her breath, looking around wildly.

"Probably those shitty TK troopers!"

Kara dumped the clothes from the emergency bag into a corner, placing Alex into it. She raised a finger to her lips. "Remember what to do?"

Alex mimicked her. "Shush!"

"Good. Stay like that until I come back. It'll be okay," Kara said, mostly to herself. She smiled at him. "I'll be back before you know it." She arranged the clothes to hide him.

"What's your plan?" Fives asked.

Kara held the blaster up to Fives' face. "This."

Fives' arms shot up in surrender. "Woah, what are you doing?"

Kara motioned to the door with the weapon. "Open it."

"Hey," Fives awkwardly said to the soldiers after he did what she ordered. "So, uh, I found her?"

"Good job," Rex dryly said, causing the troopers behind him to snicker. He pointed his chin at Kara. "Cuff her and search for the kid."

"What kid?" Kara innocently asked as the blaster was knocked from her hands and her arms were forced behind her. She scowled as she roughly had binders attached to her wrists. "Hey! Be gentle!"

"Kara, don't try me," Rex warned. "I don't have the patience for this."

"I didn't see any kids, sir," Fives lied.

Rex stared at him through his visor for a moment. "Search the house."

The three behind him split up, making a mess as they checked. They kept a wide radius around the pile of clothes, assuming it to be dirty laundry.

"How've you been?" Kara asked Rex.

Rex ignored her. "The kid might be dead. She's horrible with children."

"I wouldn't do that!" Kara squeezed her eyes to make tears, fighting against the binders. "I wouldn't kill our baby!"

Everyone in the room stilled.

Rex let out a long sigh. "Kara-"

"He did this!" Kara exclaimed to the others. "He left me to raise the baby! I'm a struggling single mother, and now he's here to arrest me!"

"Sir, that's not right," one of the TK troopers spoke up.

"Did I ask you?" Rex snapped. He thrust a finger against Kara's chest. "And don't you dare run your mouth. I won't tolerate it anymore."

"Do you hear that?" Kara's lip quivered as she hid her amusement. "He doesn't want me expressing myself! He's so controlling! He never let me have my own friends when we were married!"

"Kara."

"He doesn't pay child support!" Kara screamed hysterically.

The TK trooper that has spoken gasped. "Sir, is that true?"

"TK-1003, stay out of this," Rex commanded. He faced Kara again. "Shut up."

"Sir, we can't find the kid," someone else said.

Rex stayed silent for a minute before opening the door. "We'll find him. Let's bring her back to Lord Vader."

"He was taken away from me because I couldn't afford him!" Kara screamed as she was dragged out. "Without child support payments I nearly starved trying to take care of him!"

Rex held up a hand, bringing everyone to a sudden halt. "I'll take her from here. You're dismissed."

The ones holding Kara released her, and she stumbled away. They all hesitated before leaving Kara and Rex alone.

Rex, without saying a single word to her, put a hand on her shoulder and guided her along the path. She tripped, and he stood over her, not bothering to help her up.

"Get up."

"What if I don't?" Kara challenged.

Rex yanked her up, ignoring the shout she let out at the pain. "Let's go."

"You've really changed," Kara sharply said, dancing away from his reach. "And I don't think I like it."

"Who says you have to like it?" Rex retorted. "Pretty girl."

Kara bristled. "Alright, pretty boy. Then I'll do things you don't like. I'll talk back. I'll tell Vader that we used to date. I'll tell him how nice and kind you were!"

"You won't speak to him unless spoken to, and only to answer his questions!"

"Right." Kara winked. "Sure."

Rex glowered at her, wondering how he ever put up with her. "Not 'sure'. If you don't, he'll kill you!"

"No he won't. He needs me to find Alex!" Kara gleefully said.

"Whether he needs you is up to Lord Vader, so don't act so smug." Rex wrapped his fingers around her arm and pulled her to him. "Now let's go."

Kara head butted him, but with his helmet, she only thing she accomplished was giving herself a throbbing headache. "That doesn't feel great."

"Really?" Rex sarcastically said and rolled his eyes.

Kara stumbled into him. "Do I have a concussion?"

"You don't have a concussion," Rex told her. "Keep walking."

"Why don't you keep walking?" Kara wrinkled her nose at him.

Rex lifted her over his shoulder. "Lord Vader is really going to hate you."

"That sounds like his problem." Kara slumped against him.

Rex smiled, the helmet hiding it.
