Chapter 5: Missing Spot

(Your POV)
All of us arrived home around dawn, and I collapsed onto the couch, pretty dang tired mind you. I took off my mask and laid on my back, looking up at the ceiling as everyone else entered the room. I laid my guns on the coffee table while letting out a tired breath. I was incredibly grateful that we managed to rescue Gasper, Koneko, and Ravel. Asia was currently healing Gasper, Ravel was in the kitchen for some reason, Koneko was resting on the couch, Issei was in his room, Xenovia was resting with Irina, and Akeno was lying on top of me for some reason. I don't understand why she thought that was the best spot to relax, but I was too tired to really tell her off.

"Akeno, why are you lying on top of me?" I asked the raven haired girl, who rubbed her eyes sleepily.

"Well while I do want you, I figured you'd want someone to cuddle since Rias is away right now." Akeno buried her head into my chest. "Besides, I think I deserve a reward too~"

"I wonder if Rias is okay, I hope she hasn't run into any trouble." I hoped that Rias and Kiba were both alright in Romania, and my worrying was cut short by Ravel placing a tea tray on the table in front of Akeno and I.

"(Y/N), Akeno... I brought you guys some tea." Ravel poured some tea for both of us, allowing us to sit straight. "I just wanted to say thank you for rescuing me from those people."

"No need to thank us, we would have rescued you and the others regardless of if we had any back up." I was honestly 100% ready to destroy any building or any one who stands in my way. Unless they were my friend, in which case I'd walk around them.

"...I won't forgive them for what they did to Gasper." Ravel gripped her sleeves, she must still be scared of those people. "(Y/N), can I talk to you in private?"

"Of course." I picked up my cup of tea and followed Ravel.

The place she chose for our conversation was the backyard porch, which was a grassy patch surrounded by tall grass and rocks. There was a path made of old, dried up wood in the tall grass that led to the beach down the hill. On our porch there were a set of chairs, and the two of us sat in those chairs that faced the backyard, which overlooked the ocean and the beach.

"(Y/N), can I talk a bit about something that happened a long time ago?" Ravel asked me, and I nodded to confirm that it was alright.

"Go ahead."

"Back when I was a young girl, my heart was always full of excitement and wonder because my butler told me a story about great heroes from the past." Ravel continued with her story. "When I was a child, I wanted to become a hero just like them, or at least someone who can support them. As I got older, I honestly forgot about that dream."

"I don't understand why you would forget it, it is a good dream." I supported my manager's dream.

"I forgot about it because the underworld is no place for dreams." Ravel looked at the morning sun. "However, it all came back to me when I first saw you. You were absolutely insane, but there was always a protective side to you. You fought Riser for the sake of the woman you like, and when I saw that, the dream I had back when I was younger came back to me. You were honestly the first hero I have ever seen, or at least the first person that's worthy of the title of Hero."

"Thank you."

"I was curious about you, so I began researching you." Ravel rubbed the back of her neck in an embarrassed manner. "I learned that you are very blunt, honest, kind, quiet, and surprisingly supportive of the goals of others. I was amazed someone like you could exist, because the underworld doesn't exactly have good people in the upper parts of society. So I've decided to stand by your side no matter what."

"Are you sure you want to stand by my side?" I asked as I recalled the very thing that started this entire incident. "I wasn't able to protect you...even though I swore to protect everyone I could."

"Don't talk too badly of yourself, you're a good person." Ravel shook her head. "You came to my rescue as soon as you could, and you didn't back down even when they summoned that huge dragon. Thanks to you, I'm safe and alive. Thank you for saving me."

"No need to thank me, Ravel is my friend, and my goal is to protect all my friends." I watched the crashing waves and the sunrise with Ravel before letting out a yawn. "Don't you think the sunrise is nice? Rias used to wake me up so we could watch it together."

"(Y/N), don't worry about Rias, she can handle herself." Ravel patted my head while I drank the tea she made for me. "Besides, Kiba's with her, and he promised to help keep her safe for you."

"Ravel!" Someone burst through the door, and the fact that he was wearing his signature red jacket proves that he could only be one person...Riser. "Ravel, are you okay?! ....Eh?! It has already ended?!"

"(Y/N), don't attack Riser." Ravel ordered, forcing me to let go of the table, which I was originally going to use as the weapon. "And Riser, yes the fight is already done. What took you so long? Sure my hopes for you rescuing me were nonexistent, but I would have at least liked to see you try to do something."

"I'm sorry Ravel, it was hard to get permission from the council to come to the human world!" Riser entered a dogeza formation and bowed apologetically to Ravel. "Plus I heard about your disappearance later than I'd care to admit!"

"Well everything's alright now that (Y/N) rescued me, so you don't need to do anything." Ravel rested her head on my shoulder. "You can go back home now."

"I still haven't apologized to Rias yet, so where is she?"

SLAM

"Oh fuck."

(Timeskip brought to you by Riser flying away from (Y/N), who threw a tree at him)

I was currently walking down the beach, carrying a black trash bag and a stick that I plunged a nail through like a pike. I wasn't alone, mind you, I was walking along the beach with Kunou and Yasaka. Kunou was wearing a white tank top, jean shorts, and sandals. Yasaka was wearing a soft yellow sundress, sandals, and a straw hat. Yasaka was sitting on a folding chair, watching Kunou build sandcastles. I was wearing a Hawaiian shirt, jeans, crocs, and a set of sunglasses to help cope with the brilliantly shining sun. I was picking up trash along the beach, since trash makes the water dirty, I decided a long time ago to dedicate my free time to cleaning up beaches. A hobby I would highly recommend if you're close to bodies of water. As I approached some rocks, I looked between them and noticed something was off, the very space between the rocks was distorted. I couldn't find the words for it, but if I had to describe it, it would be like there was a mistake in creating a universe, leaving this one bit of space completely empty. I sensed nothing from this space, and I was getting nothing from it. When it comes to the earth around me, I could sense throngs through it and even absorb trace amounts of magic through them, even sand. Yet this space...there was truly nothing.

"Hey Yasaka, have you ever seen something like this?" I called the blonde kitsune over, and she walked over to my position to look at the missing space between the rocks. "I don't understand how I could have missed this?"

"It's nothing to be afraid of, and it's surprisingly common." Yasaka informed me. "Just don't touch it, if I were to describe them, they would be like glitches in time in space. Like if reality was a cloth, these spaces are tears in the cloth. Missing and best to be ignored. Usually, these things tend to show up in hidden, small spaces that are easy to hide."

"Usually?"

"Of course, there is one massive missing space, it's the Bermuda Triangle." Yasaka informed me, I guess that answers that question. "Still, let's keep these kinds of things a secret from Kunou. It destroys anything that touches or enters the space, so be careful around it."

"Understood, Kunou won't hear a word of this." I promised Yasak while watching Kunou build a rather tall tower out of sand. "By the way, if it's not a sensitive subject for you, where is Kunou's father?"

"Let's just say he left..." Yasaka watched Kunou, but as she did so, I could sense sadness in her voice. Even I, who is bad at reading emotions, can tell. "Kunou wasn't born when he left, but I could tell it bothers her. So I try my best to be a good mother for her, but I could tell I can't do everything for her. Sometimes I worry if I should do better, but I'm afraid I'm unable to."

"Do you plan to kill Kunou the moment she turns 18 so you can properly secure your throne?" I decided to ask this question since it's what my birth mother did to me. Wait, did I actually die?

"Of course not, I care very much for Kunou!" Yasaka realized that this was my experience, and in response, I shrugged.

"Then I think you're a good mom." I answered bluntly as I walked back to picking up trash along the beach side. "I may not be the smartest person like Rias is, but the fact you're asking yourself these questions can say something about you."

"You know, Kunou admires you greatly, and I'm starting to see why she does." Yasaka giggled, and I was surprised by this. Kunou admires me? "Of course, she brags about you to all the friends she made at school, but she does make them more normal. Like that time when you rescued me, she told them that a group of gangs kidnapped me because I was from a powerful household, and you came to my rescue."

"Did she really?" I wondered out loud, and Yasaka nodded as Kunou walked towards us with her feet covered in sand that were clinging to her feet.

"Would I lie to you?" Yasaka giggled before Kunou grabbed onto one of our hands. "What is it, Kunou?"

"Would you like to help me decorate my sand castle?" Kunou asked, and I nodded, causing Kunou's face to light up.

After that, Kunou and I decided to build and decorate sandcastles for the rest of the day. I used my magic to call seashells to me through the waves, and the two of us used those seashells to decorate the walls of the sand castle while also using the pointy shells as small towers for the sandcastle. Yasaka simply watched us with a smile on her face until the sun finally set, and we figured we should head back to the house. I carried my trash bag up the wooden path while I followed behind Yasaka and Kunou, with Kunou looking rather proud of that sandcastle she built. I made sure to take a picture of it with my phone before we left for the house. By the time we arrived, the sun was gone. I separated from Yasaka and Kunou after they entered the back doors, while I went to the front of the house. I dumped the black trash bag full of trash into a dumpster. I then entered through the front door and noticed a massive body on the couch, clinging to his forehead...Dagda.

"NNNNGGGHHHH HANGOVERS SUCK." Dagda whined as I walked past his unmoving body. "(Y/N), can the pain killers for me please."

"Alright." I agreed as I walked to the kitchen, where the medicine cabinet was kept. Well, there are medicine cabinets in every room, but those are honestly more like first aid kits.

I entered the kitchen to see Vali and Cao Cao were both having a cooking contest, with Arthur, Bikou, and Heracles being the judges. Vali was attempting to grill a steak while Cao Cao was cooking a fish. One problem though, hey we're doing a bad job. Vali was using the grill indoors, causing the entire ceiling to be covered in a thick layer of smoke, while Cao Cao was using a hairspray/lighter flamethrower. I decided to leave these people to their own devices and made my way to the medicine cabinet, making sure to open a series of windows to let some of the smoke filter out. I opened the medicine cabinet and got out some pain killers before exiting the kitchen, just in time to avoid Vali and Cao Cao using some kind of magic to 'increase the flavor' of their respective dishes. I entered the living room and handed Dagda the case of painkillers, allowing him to swallow them whole before downing a Jack Daniel's to wash down the painkillers. .

"Thanks kid, I think your manager called you while you were getting my meds." Dagda informed me while he clung to his head. "She said something about making a pact with a magician."

"Oh that, I'll go speak with her about that." I recalled that I should make a pact with a magician, but I wasn't entirely certain in the details. "Thank you for letting me know, Dagda."

"Just be careful, kid." Dagda warned me, and I thanked the man before making my way towards Ravel's room.

I walked down the dark hallway until I came across an open door that had light peeking through it. I entered the room to see it was Ravel's room, with the blonde haired girl in particular sitting at her desk, wearing a surprisingly casual outfit. She was now wearing a bright red-long sleeved shirt, sweats, and she had her hair back in a braid. Ravel's desk was right next to her bed, so she had some papers and envelopes scattered all over her bed. When Ravel finally noticed me, she patted the spot on her bed closest to her, so I sat on her bed.

"Hey (Y/N), I've looked through all the requests from magicians wanting to form a pact with you, and I've decided that none of them are worth your time." Ravel informed me, and I looked at the envelopes covering my bed. All of them have been opened. "All of them either possess a level of power that would make this pact a waste of time or are pretty evil. Like this guy named Grandpoggers, he wants all the keychains in the world...?"

"So what's the point of forming a pact anyways?" I didn't know why I needed to form a pact with anyone, I was already okay on my own. So what was the purpose of forming a pact with a magician?

"Combat wise, it doesn't offer many bonuses." Ravel admitted. "However, out of combat, it's quite useful. Not only is it a good way for us to solidify our alliance with the actual magicians, but it also grants certain devils access to certain spells from the Magician's Association. So I honestly believe you'll benefit a lot from having a pact. So out of everyone here, I'd think you'd benefit the most from having a pact with a magician."

"Hm...I think I know who I'm going to make a pact with." I had an idea of who I was going to make a pact with now.

"Are you sure? Because this can and will reflect on your status as a devil." Ravel warned me, but I was stubborn, and I already knew who I was going to choose.

"Le Fay, Georg!" I called for my only two magician friends, and to no one's surprise, they showed up around the same time. "Would you two like to form a pact?"

"Okay."

"Yes please!"

"Eh?!?!" Ravel waved her hands in front of all of us, forcing all of our attention onto her. "(Y/N), you do realize both of these people are wanted criminals right?"

"I know, but they're friends." I wanted to form pacts with people I knew, that way I can trust them better.

"We can always just NOT tell people who he's made a pact with." Georg suggested with his arms crossed. "This is just my suggestion, but if Le Fay and I form a pact with him, we can keep it a secret until we're not criminals anymore."

"I suppose that's a better idea than (Y/N) forming a pact with a complete and total stranger..." Ravel's phone suddenly began ringing, and she picked up the phone and answered it. "Hello? Oh hey Rias, what's up? Negotiations not going as well as you hoped? You and Kiba are still alive, right? Good, no one's hurt, just some issues. Tensions are high? Alright, so should I just bring your peerage? Oh the others too? Including Cao Cao and Vali's teams? Alright."

"Was that Rias?" I already knew the answer, but I was just making sure so I didn't make myself look dumb. "Is she doing alright? Did the vampires do anything to her? Is Kiba still alive? Does she need my help?"

"(Y/N), hurry up and finish your pact, we're going to Romania."

(A/N: I know I said we're doing all volumes of DxD in this fanfic, but I'm skipping volumes that have no relevance at all and are basically plot dumps. So we're skipping right to volume 16! Why? BECAUSE I DON'T WANNA SEPERATE SEALBOI FROM RIAS FOR LONGER THAN I HAVE TO!!! HAHAHAAHahahaha....I'm gonna go cry myself to sleep.
