They could deform and slip through the dirt and hide until sundown. He had to risk it and hide throughout the night. He was known as a water slime, water slimes can do different things, like shape shift into things and items. The down side was that he didn't fully shape, so his face and eyes don't change and he still has the jello-like and transparent skin.
