Summary: What happens when a seemingly normal bonding between friends turns into a full-on betrayal?

Note: PvP is allowed in our version of Demise.

Demise was like a looming shadow that took everyone in its path. It had already taken quite a few. Now it seemed to have Xisuma on its hitlist.

"Wha- oh my god!" Xisuma backed away from the carpet in his base that had just inexplicably dropped down, revealing a pool of bubbling lava. "For heaven's sake, that's the fifth time today!" If he were being honest, the traps were way too numerous for anyone to even relax anymore.

"Why, hello, Xisuma," X heard from behind him. The admin whipped around to see Rendog leaning haughtily against the door frame.

"What do you want?"

Xisuma leaned against the wall, smirking. "Oh, totally. Checking in on my reflexes, eh?" Xisuma got up to go fix himself a cup of tea.

"Tea again? You're getting boring! Here, let me make you something." Ren grabbed his cup and started digging through the chests.

Xisuma watched with narrowed eyes as Ren rummaged through chests. "You really should try new things, X. Why do you even have so much tea?" Ren asked, looking up from his searching.

"Here, drink this." He handed X a glass bottle.

X took one look at it and shook his head. "I can clearly see this is a poison potion, Ren. You need to step up your game," he added playfully.

"Ah, dammit," Ren muttered, putting the bottle away in his inventory, looking dejected. "Why have you got to be so observant all the time? You're making my life so much harder."

"Hah, life," Xisuma laughed at the accidental pun, causing Ren to glare at him half-heartedly.

Lightning. It came out of absolutely nowhere. The thunder roared in the duo's ears, but it couldn't even be compared to the bloodcurdling shriek that escaped Ren's lips.

"Ren... Are you- are you afraid of thunder?" Xisuma asked as Ren clung on to his arm.

"N-no.." Ren said, trying to sound confident, but failed terribly when his words come out as a whimper.

"Aww, it's ok, I was scared of thunder once." Xisuma pulled Ren into a hug. "But, it's strange how the all powerful Grimdog is scared of thunder!"

"Sh-shut up!" Ren said, shivering under Xisuma's arm.

Another crash of thunder and Ren jumped once again. Xisuma laughed, gaining him a very angry stare. Ren brought his ears down, hoping to block out the noise.

Xisuma froze and felt bad. Even if he was the one oh mighty grim reaper, he was still Ren, his friend. He let out a sigh and hugged the dead dog.

"There, there," He comforted the reaper, who snuggled into his touch.

"It'll be okay."

Ren held back an evil laugh as the trick was going perfectly to plan.

And for the third time that day lightning struck. Except, as it turns out, steel plated armour conducts electricity.

The bolt came through a hole in X's ceiling, crashing down upon the two below. The electricity snaked through X's body, sending a shock to his heart and making it momentarily stop. It hurt. A lot.

But he didn't die. Somehow, he didn't die.

X collapsed to the floor in pain, convulsing from the electricity running through him. Ren stood above him with a blank expression on his face.

"Aw, man," Ren's soft tone had changed to one of one of annoyance. "Don't tell me I have to finish the job myself."

Through Xisuma's pain, he could see the gleam of a diamond sword exit its sheath.

Ren stopped for a second, hesitating as the diamond sword hovered above his friend's chest. Maybe he could reconsider doing this... but then again, the dead team would need another member...

He made his decision. Ren brought the sword down upon Xisuma's chest with a simple, quick stroke. The dead team would soon have a new addition.

Xisuma coughed, blood leaking from his lips.

"I-I trusted you..." he rasped before everything went dark.

--

"Hey, X. It's time to get up."

X opened his eyes slowly, but when he came to, he sat up quickly and slapped Grimdog.

"Ren! I trusted you!" Xisuma exclaimed, looking at his now monochrome skin.

"Sorry man, it had to be done. Although, those snuggles were nice." Ren wiggled his eyebrows.

Xisuma blushed slightly under his helmet.

"Fine, whatever, we can do it again."

"I'm sorry, X. It had to be done!"

X raised his eyebrows and glared at his friend. "No. No, it didn't."

"Look on the bright side! Now you can kill people too! And I have a proposition to make. You kill one person, and we can forget about this! Deal?"

X wanted to say no. Ren had betrayed him, and now he was offering a deal that benefited him more than X? But no. Something made him say the words. "Deal."

--

Cleo was wandering the Shopping District, silently cursing herself for going at night. She was alerted to the sound of a twig snapping and turned around. The zombie-turned human gasped as she saw Xisuma exit the shadows.

"What do you want?" She asked, fear gripping her voice. She could clearly see the diamond sword glittering at X's side. "No. X, please."

Xisuma shrugged and said, "Sorry, Cleo. Someone has to pay the price."

Then he walked closer to her and brought his sword down.
