Molting

<Sorry for this being so late! I hope this is at least decent and makes up for it! Now enjoy!>

The first time Grian woke up with feathers in his bed he didn't think any of it. His feathers fell out all the time, as was expected with how much he flew around, so it wasn't anything to worry about. And even when more feathers fell out close after that he didn't grow extremely worried, he hadn't lost a lot of feathers near the end of last season so a lot of those feathers were probably just falling out now.

But he did grow concerned when most of his feathers didn't grow back. Since the feathers hadn't grown back there were obvious patches that didn't have feathers. One day he had inspected it, thinking maybe something was wrong with his wingpit (basically just the thing the fathers are attached to in few and simple words), only to feel something leathery and slightly scaly under his fingers. The scales were still slightly soft, so they probably weren't that old. But now the question is: why was there scale and leathery material under his feathers?

He doesn't mention anything to anyone, he didn't want anyone to worry. Plus Cub was still in need of help, apparently working long hours + desert sun didn't mix very well, and it didn't feel right to just take all the attention away from him. Plus he was sure it was just temporary! Maybe he just needed to die, which wasn't something he'd actively seek out with his current amount of levels (102), or wait it out. So he decided to wait it out, and if nothing changed he'd just use his levels before dying.

Grian considers telling someone when he starts getting massive, nearly never ending, headaches. But he thought against it, he was probably just tired and hungry! So he went back to his hobbit hole to cook something before retiring for a quick nap, and he was running his hand through his hair on the way. It was when he ran his hand through his hair that he felt a bump. It wasn't like a bump you got when you hit your head hard, but more like nubbs of horns.

He was nearly in full panic as he ran the last of the way back to his base. He needed to see himself in a mirror. The door was flown open and shut with a bang as it was pushed close, Grian searched his chest for the mirror he knew he had. It took him longer than he would have liked, but he finally found it. And after taking a look in the mirror he nearly fell over in a dead faint.

On top of his head two tan, clearly dragon, horns had started growing on his head. His hair was quite close to the color of his horns, which explained why no one had pointed them out yet. It also helped that they were still small too.

"I must be dreaming." Wheezed Grian, eyes wide. "Maybe this will all end if I go to bed? Yeah, that sounds good."

And following his own words he went to bed. Any thought of making food long gone. Everything would be fixed once he woke up, he just knew it!

...

Well he never did have the best track record of being right, nor known for having good luck either.

You see, through the night things happened. Not only had his eyes turned draconic and his horns grown, he had also grown a tail. It was a dull red with a thick dark crimson stripe going over the tailbone, it was covered in spikes the same tan color as his horns and on the tip there was a sharp, sword like spike.

Grian couldn't deny it any longer, he was becoming a dragon hybrid. And he didn't know what the hell he should do. He had thought it might be like how it was with the dragon bros: temporary. But as he looked himself over, taking a look at his unique color and spikes -so unlike the ones he had as a bro- he realized that this was permanent. There was no fading that would happen to his new tail and horns, they were here to stay.

And as he thought it over he came up with theory as to why he was molting. That theory was that he was losing his old wings to get new dragon ones. For once the thought of flying didn't make him happy, it just made him meek and scared.

Grian took a deep breath to calm himself from the panic building up in his chest, though a sob tore from his throat as the full weight of the situation fell on him. The dam broke after that, as sobs and cries left the small Hermits body.

"Why me?!" Cried Grian, closing his eyes to block out any physical showing that he was a dragon from himself. "What did I do?"

Professor Beak cooes softly at his owner, concern somehow showing in the blue birds feathery face. Grian looked at the bird sadly, eyes still glistening with tears. "Why is it just me? I wasn't the only bro, so why is it just me?" His voice turned into a growl at the end, which made the parrot puff up and back away in fear. Seeing Prof. Beak being scared made the dirty blond sag in sadness.

He sat on the floor for a while, but suddenly a thought crossed his mind. And as he thought it over a bit more, he was seriously considering doing it.

An hour later an invisible Grian was flying to a specific portal in the nether hub, and once he reached it he wasted no time walking though it and then the portal that followed it. And with a deep breath he now stood in the end.

He quickly got to making his way under the main island, which wasn't as easy as it would have been if he'd used his wings, but with how things were at the moment that was out of the question. Once under he got to work making a base for himself. It turned out good once he was done, a few of small little hut-like builds (just look up the video where Grian made a hidden base under the end island and this is that, but I'll be adding things too) were given a thing to house. One was for a wheat farm, one for storage, one full of wool and comfortable materials for sleeping, and that was about it so far. There was also a platform that was connected to two huts that was made for tree growing.

As Grian settled down after two days of building he couldn't help but feel a bang in his chest. "I'm sorry Zed." Whispered the new dragon hybrid (his wings had grown in over the two day period. They were dark crimson, like his back stripe) regretfully. But he didn't have to feel too bad about it, he'd come out after a few days after all! And if not that then at most a week.

<-> Two week later <->

Zedaph was pacing his cave, his fellow team ZIT members watching him with concern.

"I just don't get it!" Shouted the brown clad blond after a few more minutes of pacing. "He would have told anyone if he left the server, we would have also seen it, and there's still the deal with the feathers!"

"Have you asked X to scan for him?" Asked Impulse, head tilted to the side slightly.

The silence that followed explained everything. Zedaph then rushed out with his friends following behind him, Tango texted Xisuma a quick heads up so he wouldn't get a heart attack as he probably would have if Zedaph came flying in like he was now. And even though he was warned X still startled when the blond nearly crashed into him. And after Zed recovered he started pestering X about checking for Grian. "It's urgent!" Cried the tan man. "I haven't seen Grian in two weeks and he's not responding to my texts!"

The admin blinked at him before immediately turning to his computer with a "Why didn't you tell me earlier!" just as the rest of team ZIT arrived. Thankfully it didn't take long for them to get a location, though it did surprise them.

"He's on the main end island?" Asked a surprised Tango. "He can't be! Someone would have seen him when going out to end bust!"

"He's not on the main island." Said Impulse, looking closer on the screen with wide golden eyes. "He's under it."

"Under?" Echoed Tango, red eyes also wide. "How?"

"In the obsidian pillars maybe?" Suggested Impulse with a shrug. "I could see someone living there."

Now it was Xisuma who interrupted. "Nope. He's too far down to be in a pillar, probably built something under to house himself."

Zedaph had apparently had enough of them all talking. "How about we go and check ourselves? Then we'll get confirmation of how Grian is under the end island."

The other three agreed, so they were all soon making their way to the end portal. Xisuma was leading the group, Zedaph would if he knew the end cords which he didn't, and was managing to keep the three under a certain level of control. Once through they were greeted by the cooling breeze of the quiet dimension.

"Can you fly down and look for anything?" Asked Xisuma, speaking to Impulse. The dragon hybrid gave a quick nod before flying down and hovering for a bit. And just a few minutes later he came back up with wide eyes. "Uh, you might want to see this."

And this is the reason that Impulse was hovering over the void with three Hermits (none of which were very small) clutching onto him like a lifeline. As Impulse kept them in flight the other three looked over the build. "Definitely Grian." Muttered Zedaph.

Impulse noticed a ledge and decided to get rid of his cargo there, so with choppy movements he landed. Once back on stable land they all tried looking for Grian, hoping that since everything was mostly glass he'd be easy to spot. They had nearly decided to just go around guessing when Tango saw movement in the only hut with nearly no glass. They all breathed a sigh of relief and made their way towards it.

As they arrived at the entrance to the room they had expected many things. But a growling red dragon hybrid Grian standing protectively in front of a dragon egg wasn't one of them.

"Hey Grian, is it ok if I just w-" Xisuam had made a move to walk into the room, but when Grian growled louder he wisely backed off. As he did so he motioned for Zedaph to walk in, and the blond did so with no hesitation.

Grian didn't growl at him, and he even let the other get in and get close. And once the diary blond was wrapped in Zed's arms with the blonds scent everywhere, he calmed down immensely. "Hey Gri, you worried me you know. Running off like you did."

The builder crooned soft, rubbing his head under Zedaph's chin.

"Dragon instincts." Concluded Impulse after watching Grian. "He'll probably become more human instincts if you stick around to ground him."

Zedaph shook his blond head with a small smile. "I don't think that'll be necessary."

All eyes turned to Grain as the little dragon hybrid yawned as if he'd been asleep, before blearily opening his eyes. The once slightly animalistic look they had was now gone, replaced with the violet eyes they were used to (except the dragon-like quality to them). "Was' goin' on?" Muttered a still sleepy Grian.

And so the three started explaining what they had been doing, with small snorts of amusement from Grian at certain times. By the end they had explained it all as best as they could. Whatever the dirty blond was going to say was interrupted by the sound of cracking. All four spun around to see the dragon egg hatching (something none of them had ever seen happen before). It didn't take the baby dragon long to get out, and when it did Grian positively melted.

The little thing was exactly like the big one that guarded the end, but a baby. Small baby horns and stubby teeth, and small unusable wings. Zedaph picked it up gently, holding it close to his chest as he soothed the young thing. Grian came to his side and did much the same, though some of his sounds were more dragon than human.

And that's the story of how Zedian became parents to a baby dragon.

Oh and Grian's sudden dragon look was later discovered to be because of a slight glitch in the code that hadn't deleted all of the dragon bro look. And the dragon bro thing had reacted with Scar's magic, which had pushed the dragon into Grian. Which is why dirty blond became part dragon.

And honestly? As Grian sat in Zedaph's cave with a small dragon reading it a bedtime story, he really didn't mind the change. Though the wings did take a while to get used to.

One week later the Hermits were introduced to their newest family member: Essy (pronounced es-ee) the ender dragon! Aka Grian and Zedaph's kid.

<Just ignore Grian randomly getting an egg, I don't know how he got it either. Also here's how I imagine Grian's full dragon form would look like (and now you can see how his horns + tail look)

Now there was one last thing I wanted to say. I currently have around 12/13 fic ideas that I have. I am currently choosing a fic with a number generator, but if you want I'll give you all an option to pick a number and I'll take them into account when picking a fic to do!

Now I'm off to bed (or I seriously think my girlfriend will stab me through a screen just to make me sleep) so stay safe and have a wonderful time everyone!>
