He ran.
He ran for what felt like forever.
His legs grew weary, pleading with him to rest, but he couldn't allow that.
Because if he rested...
They would catch him. Then it'd be unclear from there.
Maybe they take him away and force him to be like them, killing and enslaving innocent people for pure amusement.
Or maybe they'd drag him back to Evo, and force him to do Notch-knows-what to his peers.
He didn't want to find out which was worse.
...
He was cornered now, the dark figures he once thought he could trust advancing. How foolish he had been.
Just as their leader stepped forward, the boy was met with darkness.
.
.
.
Grian woke with a start, his heart pounding out of his cheat. His turquoise eyes flitted around the dark room. Just his bedroom. Though dark, it was still the familiar room.
The clock next to his bed said it was 3:54 am, but Grian didn't plan on going back to sleep. He stayed awake for the next four hours before leaving his room.
Just a nightmare...
But it surely didn't feel like it. No, it wasn't *just* a nightmare. It was a memory.
A memory from 3 years ago, just before he had first joined Hermitcraft. He had been on the run from this group called 'Watchers'. They had come to his server, which he had named Evolution (Evo for short).
They asked as friends, sometimes pulling harmless pranks but it was never that bad.
Until it was.
The Watchers suddenly became more aggressive about things, forcing the Evolutionists to partake in challenges for the safety of their servermates the Watchers held captive.
Then, one fateful day, Grian's whole world shattered. It was the day they'd finally defeat the Ender Dragon, an important accomplishment to any player, hybrid or not.
The Evolutionists had been separated, each to fight their own individual dragon. But when Grian stepping through the portal, not only were his friends there, but the Watchers were there too.
Their leader went on a speech about how he's 'proud' of our accomplish-ments. But, there was a catch. One of the Evolutionists would have to go with them, and leave the others behind.
Everyone had this panicked expression, none of them wanting to leave their friends. That's when Grian made the choice he regretted to this day.
He agreed to join them.
He had to, he couldn't let anymore of his friends get hurt. Not after the disappearance of Taurtis. No... he couldn't allow it.
The next six months were h*ll on Earth for him. The Watchers tried to convince him to be like them, promising him vast amount of power and money. When that didn't work, they resorted to torture.
Sometimes they chain him up and pluck his wing feathers, making scarlet red blood flow to the floor freely. Sometimes they'd have one of their mages cast a spell to give him auditory and visual hallucinations.
Sometimes the hallucinations would be of the rest of his friends dead, slaughtered by his hand. Others would be of his past, and the one person he never wanted to see in his life again. A certain bunny boy.
One day, Grian had enough. He channeled all his strength into escaping his confinements. He had to leave, he couldn't stay here. As he dove through the world portal, he remembered everyone he was leaving behind.
Not that mattered now, he was outside in the main hub now, and if there was anything he remembered from the Watchers, it was that Evo was outdated. That means once you leave an outdated server, you can't go back.
Grian was alone now, and he knew the Watchers would come after him eventually. He had to find a place to hide out.
Eventually, they did almost find him. They would've taken him back for sure if it hadn't been for someone intervening. He was sure that person had saved his life that day.
And that person's name was XisumaVoid.
