Entry No.1 :Endless Rain
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEE- There was a thud as his hand flung out, knocking the annoying alarm clock that had been resting on his nightstand to the floor. Killua let out a groan, his eyes slowly cracking open. I don't want to go to school today... He dreaded walking inside those dark walls, entrapped in a bleak white room as a teacher slowly rambled on about whatever topic was the focus that day. Killua made a decision that moment as pulled the covers over his head. It tousled his fluffy white locks, and the air bubble under the thick quilt heated up with his breath, a sharp contrast to the ice cold air that had been flowing in through the vents in his ceiling. Killua's eyes fluttered shut and his body relaxed, comfortably resting in his cocoon. He slowly dozed off, encapsulated by the warm embrace of his blanket as he was lulled by the sound of the soft pattering rain on his windowpanes.
The boy awoke after a long passage of time, yawning and stretching under the sheets. The sound of rain pattering on his window the only sound that filled the quiet room. As he stretched, he felt something heavy keeping the blanket in place at one edge of the bed. Killua blinked, slowly shifting. The 'something' in question seemed to be warm and fairly large. Huh? He'd felt a similar sensation once before staying at a friend's house. He'd had a dog, a large newfoundland. The dog had settled down on his bed and not moved a muscle, forcing killua to move to the other edge of the bed. Killua felt uneasy. The sensation wasn't an odd one, in fact it was a normal experience. But one singular factor made this sensation feel wrong.
Killua didn't own a dog.
He slowly peeked his head over the covers, the cool air assaulting his previously warm upper face. He moved up a little further and let out a soft sigh as he was finally able to breath clean cool air. Killua's eyes immediately shot wide as his eyes landed on the figure on his bed. A large but thin furry creature rested itself on the bottom half of his bed, so heavy the mattress sagged alarmingly. Short brown fur covered it's body, large feline head resting on it's thick stocky paws. I-Is that a mountain lion!? Mountain lions weren't uncommon to see in this area, however they never came towards the cities. They were below, on the rocky terrain that tourists often mistook for a ravine.
The large hulking wildcat seemed to be sleeping, but Killua didn't know for how long. He snapped himself out of his momentary paralyzation and slowly inched upwards into a sitting position. He glanced out the window, not moving a muscle. It was then that his veins ran cold. The clear sheen of water greeted him, a few feet below where his eyes were. His mouth was agape in horror. The streets were completely buried under dozens of feet of water. Considering his city was on a mountain, it was the most terrifying thing Killua had ever seen. The lion must've broken into his house to seek shelter, however as Killua continued to watch the rain come down he knew it wouldn't be long before his entire house was submerged.
I-I need to get out of here! Why...didn't anyone wake me up? It suddenly hit him. Not one of his seven family members had come to get him, despite the perilous situation. Tears rolled down his cheeks, his chest rising and falling in quick succession. He was so overwhelmed, so much was happening. Was the world ending? Did his family leave him? Am I going to die? Adrenaline started coursing through his veins as the gravity of the situation really sank in. If he was going to live he needed to act, immediately. Killua sprung out of bed, swiftly grabbing his backpack and bolting out of the room.
The second he moved, he heard a growl from behind him and Killua slammed the door shut. A heavy body thudded against the door, snarling echoing the hallway. He'd just barely avoided being devoured by a starving mountain lion. His breath heaved, and he grabbed a chair, shoving it against the doorknob in hopes that would keep the ravenous lion at bay. That works right? I see that in movies all the time to stop bad guys- The door splintered as the mountain lion threw itself at the door once more, yowling in anger. His heart skipped a beat. This wasn't a movie, and there was no bad guy. The only thing between him and a couple hundred pound mountain lion was a badly made wooden door a mere one and a half inches thick.
Killua bolted to the stairs, terror bearing down heavily on his back. He stumbled slightly as he redirected his movement, upon realizing that water was crawling halfway up the stairs. There was a smash, as splinters rained down on his back, stabbing into his bare legs. Killua winced and turned, leaping up onto the ladder leading to the attic. There was a window he could escape from. Well if he survived at least. The snarling mountain lion leapt at him and Killua managed to pull the ladder up right in the nick of time.
The lion yowled and clawed at the ceiling as he backed away from the hole in the floor, trembling. That was close. Killua frantically looked around, searching for something, anything to help him. As his eyes scanned the damp mold smelling attic. He spotted a rusty hammer from his father's tool box, abandoned on the floor. He smashed the attic's window and crawled out of the building and onto the roof. He stared out over the expanse of water, further than the eye could see. It swallowed buildings, trees, power lines. He gripped onto the rusty hammer, trying to ground himself. Will the rain ever stop? He didn't know. but one thing he knew for certain. He was completely and utterly alone.
