Hard Love
Okay, here is my very first song fic ever!
~*~
Trading punches with a heart of darkness,
going to blows with your fear incarnate.
Never going until it's stripped away,
a part of you has gotta die to change.
Frodo was fading in and out of consciousness, and Sam felt the same. Though he did not carry the same heavy burden as Frodo did, it hurt to see his master in such pain and inner turmoil, fighting the darkness of the Ring.
In the morning you gon' need an answer,
ain't nobody gonna change the standard.
It's not enough to just feel the flame,
you gotta burn your old self away.
Mount Doom loomed in the distance, growing closer day by day. And every one of those days, the Ring got heavier and heavier, reminding Frodo of the urgency and importance of this devastating quest.
Slowly, though, this young Hobbit had begun to desire this evil weapon with a fierce and secret desire that gnawed at his heavy heart... Even though this lustful want made Frodo's mind ache with bitter resentment.
Hold on tight a little longer,
what don't kill you makes you stronger.
Get back up, because it's a hard love.
You can't change without a fallout,
this gon' hurt, but don't you slow down.
Get back up, 'cause it's a hard love.
Multiple times both Hobbits had collapsed, exhausted and on the edge of despair. But one night, Sam had spotted a bright star that shone like a jewel among all the smog and ash in the sky above Mordor.
That gave them renewed strength and hope.
You know the situation can't be right,
and all you ever do is fight.
But there's a reason that the road is long,
It take some time to make your courage strong.
The road to Mordor had been so long and marked with heartbreak and suffering, it could only be fate that had allowed them to get this far...
Yet they had both became stronger in mind and body, as well as courage. But they paid a heavy price for this new strength, for they were only hardened by the pain. The loss of Gandalf, leaving the Fellowship and not knowing if they would ever see them again, and discovering that Boromir had died at the cruel hands of the Uruk-Hai.
Hold on tight a little longer,
what don't kill you makes you stronger.
Get back up, because it's a hard love.
You can't change without a fallout,
this gon' hurt, but don't you slow down.
Get back up, because it's a hard love.
Mount Doom was so close now, Frodo and Sam could feel its scorching heat. The only fiery inferno where the Ring could be destroyed...
Forever.
When the wolves come and hunt me down,
I will face them all, and stand my ground.
Because there's a fire burning me,
they will see my strength in this love I've found.
There still came a point though, when Frodo's strength was utterly spent. Despite his new strength, he could not go on at all. Sam was briefly tempted to join his master, lying in the dust. And forget about all the pain...
But he fiercely got back up and began carrying Frodo up the steep, desolate slopes.
Step by step, closer and closer...
Hold on tight a little longer,
what don't kill you makes you stronger.
Get back up, because it's a hard love.
You can't change without a fallout,
this gon' hurt, but don't you slow down.
Get back up, because it's a hard love.
So close! They were almost there. Sam's vision had begun to darken and blur from exhaustion, and Frodo was completely gone, surrendered to the weariness and shadows lurking within his heart.
Ohhh, It's a hard love,
it's a hard love.
Hold on tight, because it's a hard love.
Don't lose hope, because it's a hard love.
Get back up, because it's a hard love.
Suddenly Gollum, a foul, withered creature emerged from behind a boulder and attacked them. Groping around for the Ring, which is what he loved and yet hated the most.
It's a hard love.
Oh, it's a hard love.
It's a hard looooooooove!
The Hobbits fought Gollum valiantly, even Frodo was able to gather his wits again and evade the dreadful creature, who he thought had died from the far fall off the cliff on the edge on Mordor. But he knew he had to act fast, ere the weariness came over him again.
Hold on tight a little longer,
what don't kill you makes you stronger.
Get back up, because it's a hard love.
You can't change without a fallout,
this gon' hurt, but don't you slow down.
Get back up, because it's a hard love.
Finally, Sam was able to pry Gollum away from Frodo, who didn't waste any time in breathlessly running up the slope. His heart pounding as he sprinted towards the Cracks of Doom.
It's a hard love!
