Chapter Seven
Preston's phone buzzed for the twelfth time in five minutes. He was receiving glares from the other students on the bus. Embarrassed, he pulled out his phone and typed in the password.
"What do these assholes what?" he thought, seeing there were twelve texts from the group chat. He opened up messanger to read them.
"Are you fucking kidding me," he thought, staring blankly at the screen. "They're all memes." Preston clutched the phone so tightly it could have snapped in half. He typed out an angry reply.
🎭DramaQueen™: Are you guys serious?? You two publicly humiliated me by blowing up my messages...with memes??
He watched the texts roll in.
🎩MagicBoi💫: Lol sorry
SecretlyaSorceror: Couldn't help ourselves
🎭DramaQueen™: Whatever. Anyway, where are you guys?
🎩MagicBoi💫: In all honesty, Starbucks. You?
SecretlyaSorceror: Harrison are you serious? I'm literally walking over there atm. Stay put.
🎭DramaQueen™: God dammit, I'm still on the bus.
🎩MagicBoi💫: Don't you live, like, a block away from there?
🎭DramaQueen™: Shut it, Harrison.
Preston glanced up, realizing it was almost his stop. He shot them a final text.
🎭DramaQueen™: Look, I'll be there in fifteen. Got it?
SecretlyaSorceror: Fine by me. I just got here, anyway.
🎩MagicBoi💫: K
The bus screeched to a halt and Preston stood up. He briskly walked down the aisle and down the steps. He breathed a sigh of relief once his feet touched the grass in his front yard. The bus pulled away behind him. He padded up to the front door.
"Mom, I'm home," he called out once he stepped inside. He shut the door and set down his satchel, inhaling the home's familiar vanilla scent.
"Hi, sweetie!" his mom purred, giving him a hug. She had the same auburn hair as him and pale blue eyes. He laughed lightly, returning the hug. "Hi, Mom."
"How's my said gay son doing?" she asked, pulling away. Preston stared at the ceiling. "Mooom," he whined.
She just giggled. "I'm sorry! I just had to make a Heathers reference." The hyper mom gasped and took her son's hand, dragging him to the kitchen. "You have to try these!"
He rolled his eyes, but smiled. Preston loved his mom to pieces. She was so accepting and loving... Plus an amazing cook. Which was probably the reason he was being led to the kitchen.
"So you've had the peanut butter cookies with the Hershey's kisses, right?" she questioned. He simply nodded. She let go of his hand, walking towards the fridge. "Well, here's a new one..."
Ms. Goodplay pulled out a plate of cookies with candy cane Hershey's kisses on them. "Festive, right?"
"Mom, it's September," Preston sighed. He may be dramatic and overenthusiastic about things, but he rarely celebrated holidays early.
His mom shrugged. "Just try one! I'm sure you'll love it."
His gave his mom an incredulous look before picking up one of the treats. He took a small bite out of it. His eyes widened.
"Damn- I mean, wow, these are good!" he commented, shoving the rest if it in his mouth. She chuckled.
He swallowed. "I promised Harrison and Nerris that I'd meet them at Starbucks. Can I take some of these with me?"
"Of course, dear, there's more in the oven." She slid the cookies into a sandwich bag and handed it to her son.
"Thanks, Mom! Love you!" he shouted, running out the door. She smiled, watching him go.
