Parents are dumb
Your pov
I woke up to the lingering scent of vanilla incense and the phone ringing very loudly. I opened my eyes and realized I was inside, how the hell did we get on the couch?
I tried to get up, but Ryan was on top of me, "Ryan..." I whispered, he groaned, "Ryan, I need you to move..." He groaned and moved. I set my feet on the cold hardwood floor and made my way to the loud phone. Ryan fell right back asleep once he hit the couch again.
"Hello?" My voice was very groggy. Why the hell am I so cold?
"Y/n! Sweetheart, we're at a rest stop right now, but we should be there in about an hour or so." Wait, what?
"Mom, what are you talking about?" I put a hand to my forehead.
"We're coming over this weekend! We discussed this." Oh shit! I totally forgot!
I looked down to see I was wearing nothing but one of Ryan's shirts. Oh my god! Did we? Yeah we definitely... And my parents!? They'll be here in an hour! Shit! What are we gonna do!?
"Oh! Uh, okay," I gave her the address of the apartment and said goodbye before hanging up. I ran over to Ryan and shook him awake.
"Ryan! Get up! My parents are gonna be here in an hour!" That was when I realized what he was wearing. Nothing but his boxers. Aww he actually looks adorable like tha- no time to think like that! Parents!
"Alright, alright..." He sat up and got a good look at me, "Isn't that my shirt?" He chuckled, "You look so adorable," he smiled but shivered, "Geez why am I so-" he looked down and laughed.
As he brought his head back up his face turned pink and he wouldn't quit smiling, "We should uh get changed...changed for your uh...your parents..."
"Yeah...yeah..." He got up, but before walking to the bedroom, he took my hand and slowly spun me around.
"I love it when you wear my clothes, you're just so cute." he said, happily.
"Yeah? Maybe I'll wear them more often then," I laughed. He gave me a short kiss and led me into the bedroom. We changed and quickly cleaned the apartment to the best of our ability. What if they don't like him? They liked Pete so much... what will they have to say about Ryan? They'll love him... I hope...
There was a knock at the door, Ryan and I both turned our heads. We both went to the door, I held Ryan's hand tight, took a deep breath, and opened the door.
"Y/n! Hi sweetheart! We've missed you!" My mom said, letting herself in and hugging me. My dad did the same, "And who is this?"
"Mom, dad, this is Ryan. My boyfriend." I explained.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you." He ever so politely said and held a hand out for my mom to shake.
"Oh, no need for that! You get a hug!" She hugged him tight, he looked absolutely terrified. She pulled away and Ryan shook my dad's hand, everything was going smoothly. For now. "Wow, this place is so tiny compared to Pete's! His place was so big, it was crazy! But this is cute too." Oh shit! This isn't going to go well!
"Uh, thanks?" Ryan stood next to me and took my hand again. I could tell he was tense.
"Now, where will we be sleeping?" My dad asked.
"Um, you can take the bedroom. Ryan and I can take the couch-"
"Oh please, this place is way too small for us. Y'know, Pete had a huge guest room just for us. He was the sweetest; I think we'll just get a hotel. So, what do we have planned for the day?" My mom very rudely said.
"Do you want to get lunch? We could go to that diner down the road." Ryan suggested, trying very hard to ignore my mom's shitty comments.
"Yeah, that sounds great, love." I brushed the side of his hand with my thumb to keep him calm.
"Well, I guess that'll have to do. Y'know, Pete would take us to town and buy us some of the coolest things. I think he bought me this shirt, actually. He was such a sweetheart!"
"Mom, can we stop talking about Pete?" I stated more than asked. She scoffed and rolled her eyes, "Let's just go to lunch," Ryan and I walked downstairs to the car with my parents close behind. We got into my little bug and drove to the same diner Ryan and I had our first kiss, just weeks ago. Of course my mom went on and on about how great Pete is. Ryan wasn't having a good time.
We walked inside and got a booth. I sat next to Ryan and my parents sat next to each other. I kept my fingers intertwined with Ryan's as we ordered, "So, how was your drive?" He asked.
"Oh, it was fine. What do you do for a living, Ryan?" She asked.
"I'm a musician."
"A musician!" My dad scoffed, "You traded a wealthy respectful business owner for a low life musician!? What is wrong with you, Y/n!?" Ryan hung his head low in shame.
"Okay, for one, Pete cheated on me! You just expect me to stay with him after something like that!? And two, Ryan is the best most amazing guy I have ever met. I love him... I love him a lot." He lifted his head a little and smiled. I smiled back and squeezed his hand.
"Oh come on, Y/n! He cheated! So what? You could've forgiven him." She said with a matter-of-fact tone. "And besides, you said that about Pete too!"
"Why would I do that? And I didn't mean it as much as I do with Ryan. He's the love of my life, I wouldn't trade him for the world!" I was letting them have it, "Pete and I are over! We've been over for awhile now, you just have to accept that." The waiter came over and we all went quiet as the food was served. We were mostly quiet for the rest of the time.
"I can pay, don't worry." Ryan assured, pulling out his wallet.
"No no no, let us pay." My dad insisted. It's a trap! They'll complain either way!
"It's fine, I got it." He payed and we began walking to the car. My parents trailed behind and conversed just loud enough for Ryan and I to hear.
"I can't believe he wouldn't let us pay! We can handle that ourselves!" Ryan looked so hurt.
"I'm so sorry. I love you so much, you know that. Right?" I whispered, putting a hand to Ryan's cheek.
"Yeah... I love you too. It's alright, it's what I get for being a no good broke musician." He sighed, opening the car door for me to get in. He opened the door for my mom as well, but she only scoffed.
"I can open the door myself," she harshly snapped.
"I'm sure you can, just being polite." Ryan shot back. She just rolled her eyes as he got into the drivers seat.
"What are we doing now?" My dad asked.
"I'm not sure, what would you like to do?" Ryan asked, still trying to be as polite as possible.
"Why don't we go to that new mall they just opened up?" My mom asked, knowing very well Ryan and I aren't financially stable enough to blow all our money on expensive new things, "Have you been yet? It looks very nice." she said.
"I don't know, we don't really have the mon-" she cut Ryan off.
"Well, you know, Pete used to get us whatever we wanted when we'd come to visit. Maybe we should pay him a visit!"
"Mom, no! We're taking you to your hotel-" I began, but was interrupted.
"No, I think that's a wonderful idea! Why not?" My dad chimed in.
"Because, he's my ex! We are not together! Ryan and I are together and he's right here!" They ignored me entirely and just kept speaking about how amazing Pete is, "I'm really sorry love, they just don't see you the way I do. But that doesn't change how I feel about you. Let's just drop them off at a hotel and head home. We'll probably end up doing dinner later though." I whispered to Ryan.
"It's alright darling, I'm kind of used to being called these things. The broke musicians dream." He whispered back.
"Oh Ryan, it'll be okay. They're only here until tomorrow. We just have to deal with them until then." I kissed his cheek as he started the car. We dropped them off at a random hotel as they still talked on and on about Pete.
"Y/n, can I talk to you?" My mom asked, I nodded and she pulled me away from Ryan and my dad as they carried their two suite cases inside.
"I don't think this Ryan fellow is any good. Why don't you get yourself a guy with a stable income? You can get a proper home with a proper husband and finally give us grandchildren!" My jaw dropped as my eyes widened, "You know Pete will probably take you back. Just get him back, settle down, and keep yourself busy in the kitchen like a proper house wife." I can't believe these words are coming out of my own mothers mouth!
"That is not happening, mom. I can do what I want with my life and right now, I want to be with Ryan. I want to stay far away from Pete. Why can't you see that? Ryan is amazing, why can't you just give him a chance?" I asked.
"Stop it with all this Ryan nonsense. You're going to become a proper housewife with Pete."
"What if I don't want to be a housewife? What if I don't go back to Pete? What if I spend the rest of my life with Ryan? What will you do then?" I snapped, she stood frozen in shock, "I think your bags are ready, Ryan and I will see you at dinner." I spoke coldly as I walked passed her and to Ryan. She followed and stood next to dad.
"It was nice meeting you two! See you at dinner." Ryan said as they walked off, they turned around and scoffed. Then I did something I would never regret.
"Hey mom!" She turned around and in that instant, I pulled on Ryan's shirt collar causing his lips to crash into mine. I poured every emotion I had into that kiss, out of spite. He pulled away with the dorkiest smile on his bubblegum tinted face.
"Woah, what was that?" My parents just stood in shock.
"Spite," was all I answered to him.
"I think I like it," he brought his lips back to mine, totally forgetting about my parents, "Let's head home, I don't think your parents want to see this next part." We both laughed and got back into the bug. My parents still stood there as he pulled out of the parking lot. I smiled and waved to them as I began to blast the radio playing Killer Queen by the lovely band, Queen, "I think they hate me," he laughed over the music.
"That doesn't matter to me!" We began to sing along, very loudly.
"She's a Killer Queen

I knew tonight would be a nightmare, but right now, I felt pretty good. As long as I had my love by my side, I knew everything would be okay. No matter what is going to come out of tonight.

I feel like I've been updating this one a lot lately??? Not sure if that's good or not... I got bored of only adding in Beatles and young veins songs so I added one of my favorite queen songs. I hope you enjoy. I kinda feel generic that it's my favorite, but I just like it a lot. Have a fantastical day~peace out cheesebags
