What If...3
Idea by @rosesmith161!
So, I decided to make a third part for this idea.
Even though Star Wars Rebels is over, let's keep the memory alive by writing until a new Star Wars series begins because, they can't just leave it at that kind of cliffhanger!...right?
Anyway...I also hit 300 followers!!
Enjoy!!

Hera's P.O.V
"Not right now, Ezra," I said, looking over some reports.
"But, Hera-"
"Ezra," I warned, now looking the young boy sternly in the eyes. He shut his mouth and faced the floor. I looked up to see the time then back at the eight-year old.
"You should be in bed by now. What are you still doing up?" I asked, a little upset and annoyed. He didn't say anything. I sighed and picked him up, carrying him to his room.
On the way, I peeked over to see fear in those big blue eyes. I ignored it since it was probably going to be another excuse to stay up again. It's been going on for three weeks now. I've been a little sleep deprived lately because of Ezra.
"You need to learn how to sleep on your own. I know it's scary but there's nothing scary in here," I soothed. We stood in front of Ezra's door while it slid open to reveal a normal cabin. Nothing out of the ordinary.
"But Hera," he begged scared.
I didn't listen and walked towards the bunk. I laid him down into the bottom bunk and tucked the boy in.
"It's okay to be scared but once you face your fear then you'll be able to do many things," I comforted, combing my fingers through his hair.
'Like letting me get a good nights rest,' I thought. Ezra still seemed scared but not as much before.
"O-okay. I'll try," I spoke determined. I smiled at his serious face, almost laughing.
"Good. Night, Ez," I said before getting up and leaving the cabin to mine.
*An hour later*
Ezra's P.O.V
I jumped at the sound of scratching.
'He's back,' I thought, terrified. I really did want to be brave like Hera and Kanan but when the smallest of things like scratching or hitting the floor, then it changes.
My eyes scanned the room until landing at the table. There was something peeking from behind the table. Staring. Watching. Waiting for me. It's yellow eyes consuming me with fear and shiver from the cold. It's shadowy body still as could be.
It disappeared.
My heart hammered against my chest and eyes looked all over to find the dark monster.
"Ezra..." it hissed in my ear. I screamed and fell out of my bed, scotching away until my back hit the wall. I shook in fear and could feel tears running down my cheeks, wanting someone to hold and reassure me that it's all in my head.
"Mommy! Daddy!" I cried from habit when frightened. I sniffed when seeing that thing sitting in the corner of my bed whispering many horrible things. Trying to get inside my head and fill it with nightmarish pictures. Terrible ideas and trickery.
The room grew more cold. I placed one hand flat on the floor and used the other to wipe away the new tears. Something crawled over my hand making me jump back and come hardly make out the small thing on the floor.
A bug?
That's when my eyes adjusted enough to see there were more. A lot more all over the room. I screamed and was about to jump and run but the bugs began to crawl on me. They bound me to the ground and began to crawl down my throat and tear my skin away to get inside.
They pinched and clawed until blood began to leak from the wounds.
"NO! MOMMY! DADDY!" I cried. I was going to die and horrible death. No one cares enough to came a save me.
"Yes...boy...no one cares for a street rat. Especially one who's afraid of his own shadow," the dark figure said, standing over me. Watching me get torn to shreds. Whispering threats. Yet, waited still. Patiently.
"Join the dark side and become stronger. You can then conquer your fear and kill the bugs. I can give you that power if you join me," the figure said, extending its long arm with claw like hands.
I was tempted and wanted it to go away so badly but something stopped me.
"Take my hand! All the pain will go away."
I cried. Confused and lonely.
"Mommy...d-daddy," I whimpered, closing my eyes, "W-where are you?"
"Ezra," a voice called. I opened them, recognizing the voice.
"Mommy?" I called.
"Ezra! Wake up. It's just a dream!"
"D-Daddy?" I whimpered.
The next thing I knew was the figure was yelling inhumanly and screeching in pain. The bugs slowly disappeared as the figure looked at me before pouncing. I screamed.
I shot up and hit my head still screaming. To dark! To dark! I began to panic.
"Ezra! Stop screaming!"
I slowly stopped and opened my eyes to see Hera sitting next to me on my bed and Kanan standing a ways from us. My eyes averted to all over to find the shadow thing gone.
"Hey, look at me and relax," Hera spoke gently. I calmed my breathing until it was back to normal. I wanted to look more but Hera wouldn't allow it.
"That's it. Deep breathes, hun," she said.
I was safe. Kanan and Hera were here. Yet, I still couldn't shake my fear off and felt myself shake.
I snapped and my eyes began to water. I bowed my head and began to cry. My hands shook and squeezed the blanket gathered in them.
"Ssshhh, it's ok now," Hera said gently and gathered me in her arms. I flung at her and wrapped my short arms around her and gripped some of her flight suit in my hands. I felt her hand rub my back.
"I want my mommy and daddy," I cried.
"I know," She said, soothingly in my ear. I sniffed a few times and glanced in Kanan's direction. He was massaging his temple as though having a headache.
"I'm going back to bed. Wake me if there's anything else you need me to do," Kanan said, turning and walking out the door. Hera sighed as I buried my head back into her chest and slowly calmed down.
"I don't want to sleep in here. I don't want to be alone," I complained and settled down the urge to cry again.
"I suppose you can come and sleep with me for the night but just this once. Okay?" She offered. I nodded my head. Hera lifted me up and carried me out of the room. I rested my head on her shoulder and looked back into the dark room.
The shadowy thing stood in the middle of the room and watched us leave until the door shut. I felt myself stiffen and buried my face into her shoulder, sniffling. We arrived in her room and she laid me down on the bunk. She rolled out a bed roll and got under the blanket.
"Night, Ezra," Hera said before yawning. I didn't reply. My mind was set on making sure that thing wasn't in here. I couldn't fall asleep even though my eyes felt like they were being dragged down to shut. Yet, I was to scared to sleep. To scared to see that shadowy figure invade my mind, attempting to bribe me over with power I didn't want.
My eyes landed on the peaceful form of the Twi'lek in the bed roll. Sleeping soundly without a care in the world.
My mind was made up after that.
*Morning*
Hera's P.O.V
The first thing I did was yawn then rubbing the sleep from my eyes. I tried to figure out why I was sleeping in a bed roll until the memories of last night came.
I looked over my shoulder to the bed to see it empty. It was odd and concerning since Ezra was always the last one to wake up. That's when almost jumping when something next to me squirmed. My eyes were quickly drawn to the small figure sleeping next to me.
I was surprised and almost let my jaw drop in shock. Then my surprise changed to sympathetic when seeing the dark rolls under the youth's eyes. He sure seemed worn out. I was too. So, instead of leaving the bed roll, I tucked myself back under the cover and held the boy closer.
He snuggled into my chest a small smile formed on his lips. I smiled a little to and combed my fingers through his hair.
"Mommy?" a small voice whimpered happily. I stopped in utter shock and sadness. Butterflies swarmed my stomach. He thinks I'm his mother? I guess he is out of it.
"No, it's Hera," I spoke softly.
"H-Hera?" He said confused and tensing up, scared. He then until relaxed and snuggled back into my hold.
"Hera," he said before going back into a deep sleep. My smile widened before I closed my eyes and went back to sleep.
Chopper's P.O.V
I was bored out of my mind since Hera wasn't up for some reason. Wait, why wasn't she up yet? She's always up earlier than anyone else. Ugh, living beings and there sleep.
I rolled down the hall until I was in front of her door. I knew not to wake her up or even roll in but something was just not right. Quietly, I opened the door.
To my surprise, Hera wasn't even in bed but in a bed roll on the floor with something next to her. I rolled into the room to see Ezra snuggled up next to her. Both in a deep sleep. An idea made the wheels in my dome turn and giggled before taking a holo of this moment.
This will be some good blackmail-I mean, precious memories. Yeah, memories. I rolled out of the room before any of them decided to wake up.
*Seven years later...*
Ezra's P.O.V
Zeb and I chased Chopper down the corridor until we cornered him.
"What are you going to do now you bucket of bolts. You're surrounded," I said, grinning. Zeb was next to me and about to pounce. He actually offered to help me destroy Chopper.
Chopper told me to stay back or he would have to show a holo to the others. Of course, I didn't listen and the next thing that happened ended up breaking Chopper a little.
Hera yelled at us to be careful as she fixed her droid up in the common room. Everyone was in there and I couldn't help but think about what Chopper said before he shut off.
I wonder what holo he had of me. Probably wasn't something to bad. Then again, it was Chopper.
Before finishing my thoughts, Chopper turned back on and a holo was projected. My mouth gaped open in shock when seeing the holo of Hera and I sleeping in a bed roll when I was younger.
Zeb bellowed with laughter. Sabine and Kanan smirked. Hera smiled fondly at the memory. Chopper began to laugh too. I was completely speechless and felt my face heat up.
"Aw, Ezra. Your adorable," Sabine teased.
"C-CHOPPER! Turn that over," my voice stuttered and hitched in embarrassment. Chopper kept laughing then rolled out of the common room while turning the holo off. I jumped out of my seat and began to chase the melding droid.
"Get back here so I can turn you into scrap metal!" I yelled.
Hera's P.O.V
Chopper and Ezra ran out of the room while the rest of the crew stared at me.
"When did that happen?" Zeb asked, interested after calming down. Sabine had her 'inspired' look and soon left for her cabin.
"A long time ago," I said, getting up and put my tools away. Kanan shrugged and took a sip of his coffee. I smiled a little at the memory still encased in my head.
