Ezra's P.O.V
My hands clutched the blanket I was hiding under. It seemed childish to be hiding under a blanket but I find it reassuring and a little comforting. I couldn't sleep, especially with the sound of poring rain clattering on the top of the Ghost. It sounded like thousands of pebbles hitting the Ghost repeatedly.
Yet, that wasn't the worst part. An embarrassing fear that I've never told anyone except for...my parents. What can I say? I was only seven, that's a good excuse but what fifteen year old padawan has a fear of thunderstorms?
A clap of thunder made me flinch and tighten my grip on the blanket until my knuckles turned white. I cursed under my breathe for being so scared about some stupid storm.
Sure, on the streets, it was terrifying when the wind howled. My tower would lean back and forth with the sound of groaning as if it would snap in half. It would grow cold during the night and dry in the day.
I never got over the fear after my parents were taken. Instead, my fear grew and living on the streets made it worse.
Right now, I'm in the common room in case I made any sort of noise. If Zeb found out about my fear, he'll never let it down to give a chance to tease me.
Rumble!
I felt myself shrink further into the blanket.
'I'm so pathetic,' I thought, groaning embarrassingly.
Suddenly, the lights flickered on. I jumped out of my skin at the sudden light and saw Hera standing at the door, staring at me in surprise.
"Ezra? What are you doing out here at this hour?" She asked concerned. What was I supposed to say? Oh, nothing to big. Just my childhood fear of thunderstorms keeping me up the whole entire time. No biggie.
I realized that I hadn't answered her yet, which seemed to boost her worry more.
"I'm just...I couldn't sleep with it being so loud," I told her. It was half the truth. It was really loud and I don't understand how everyone else was able to sleep.
Hera raised an eyebrow, "Okay, I believe that but is there something else you want to tell me."
"Why would there be anything else?" I say slightly nervous.
RUMBLE!
It was so loud, I could feel the ship shake. The light flickered and I whimpered, concealing the blanket fully over my head. I trembled and heaved in fright. Dang it! Out of every fear that I could have, why does it have to be thunderstorms?
I felt something gentle run up and down my back. At first, I flinched but my trembling settled down. I peeked out from under the blanket and felt my face fluster when seeing Hera kneeling next to me.
'This is so embarrassing. Now Hera is going to think I'm weak,' I thought, looking away from the pilot.
"Are you afraid of the storm?" She asked. I didn't reply. Hearing her say it makes me sound more pathetic.
"It's ok to be afraid. Everyone has a fear of something," she reassured.
"I'm fifteen years old and have been on my own since I was seven. I'm pathetic being scared of a storm than anything else," I said the pleaded," Please don't tell the others."
"You're not pathetic," she said, sternly.
"Maybe that's the reason you're scared. You've been on your own without any reassurance that storms aren't scary. Maybe I can help you get over your fear so you won't have to worry about it," she said, calmly.
I finally turned my gaze back to the Twi'lek, who had a small smile on her face. I heeded her words for a moment while she stood up and offered me her hand.
I smiled a little and reached for her hand. Hera grasped my hand and helped me up from the floor. The blanket went down on my shoulders as one hand held onto it.
Rumble!
I jumped and accidentally ran into the nearest thing. Hera. I felt my face heat up in embarrassment and backed away quickly, looking at the floor.
"Sorry," I apologized. Something laid on my shoulder and I looked up to see Hera's hand. She smiled and slung an arm around me.
"Come on, I want to show you something," she said. I nodded and we started to head towards to cockpit. My mind wondered curiously what Hera had in store for me.
"Why are we going to the cockpit?" I asked, subconsciously.
"You'll see," she said.
When we arrived, I sat in the co-pilot's seat while Hera sat in her seat.
I was a bit uncomfortable sitting near a window where rain pounded against the clear surface but Hera's presence numbed that fear a little.
"So...what are we doing?" I asked.
"Be patient," she said. I raised an eyebrow before a flash of light suddenly blinded me.
"What was-"
"One," I was cut off when Hera started to count.
"Two," she continued.
"Why are you counting?" I asked, confused.
"Three," she said before a clap of thunder filled the room. I lifted the blanket over my head and clutched the blanket tightly in my hands.
"Ezra, your going to miss it if you keep hiding," Hera spoke.
"Miss what?" I asked, "because I'm still...afraid." It was hard to admit that I'm scared as to something silly as a loud noise.
"Just peek and look out the window," she said.
I sighed and lifted the blanket off my head and watched the storm outside. This was so pointless. What was there to see besides rain and thunder?
Suddenly, a streak of light flashed across the sky down to the ground of Lothal. My eyes widen in amazement and not any later did Hera start to count. She made it to five and thunder bellowed through the storm. Yet, I wasn't scared of it.
"What was that?" I asked.
"The lighting?" She questioned.
"Yeah," I said.
She smiled, "Lighting is what causes thunder when it strikes the ground."
"Is it going to hit us?" I asked, a little worried.
"Well, if it does, then the worst it could do is knock the power out," Hera explained. This calmed my racing heart and I looked out the window again, waiting for another light show.
"Hera?" I began, not looking away, "Thanks."
"Anytime and Ezra?" She said.
"Yeah?" I replied.
"You can always come to me or Kanan if your scared of something. We won't think of you any less no matter what your afraid of," she said.
I looked over at Hera and could see a gentleness in her eyes. It reminded me of when my own mother would look when she was proud or happy for me. I shook the thought away and smiled.
"I'll remember that next time," I said. Hera ruffles my hair and I playfully swatted away.
'Yeah,' I thought, 'I'll remember for next time.'
