Ezra's P.O.V

The mission had gone well until it didn't.

We were on a mission at my "favorite" planet. Hoth. Cold, bone chilling Hoth. It was just me and Hera while the others had a different mission. Well, the two of us split up and were searching for some supplies that Rex left for us. Evidently, it had to be this planet out of all the others because it would be least expected. Luckily, the two of us were give snow gear.

All was going swell until a huge, furry, abominable, tusked animal came and attacked me. I accidentally stumbled near its den and now it's mad.

I tried to came it down but it still tried to get me.

"Easy, it's ok. I'm not going to hurt you," I said calmly. It roared and swung its arm. I ducked, dodging the arm and slowly backing away. The ground shook and I turned to see the cave entrance was soon blocked by snow. The snow plowed into the cave and I ran deeper into it. The creature had the same idea, taking its babies in its arms and running off.

I ran faster as the white blanket was getting closer until slowly stopping. I stopped and bent down to catch my breathe. A smile formed on my face as I survived from being covered head to toe in a thick blanket of snow.

I stood up straight but still felt like I ran a mile at full speed.

I soon realized that I wasn't out of it yet. I am trapped in a cave with who knows what and no way to know where to go. It was dark and soon it will get very, very cold. I picked up my com-link from my belt and spoke into it.

"Specter two, can you hear me Specter two?"

I waited for a reply but there was no signal. I sighed in frustration and began to walk deeper into the cave, hoping that there was another way out.

"You can do this. You've survived by yourself for eight years, you can survive this too," I told myself. I came to a halt when the cave split into three different paths.

"Should've followed the creature, Bridger," I muttered and picking the path on the left to walk down. I could feel the cold nipping at my exposed skin but didn't think to much of it.

Eventually, I arrived in some kind of cavern. On the other side was another tunnel. Before walking out into the open area, an icy stalagmite fell on the path to the other side. My eyes averted to the ceiling to see it covered with big and small stalagmites that could fall at any moment.

Was it worth the risk or would it be for nothing to cross through?

If I'm quiet enough and keep a heads up then maybe, I could make it through. I grabbed my lightsaber from my belt and slowly started to walk down the path. It was going ok until the ground started to shake. I was quick to doge and slice falling stalagmites but more started to fall. They were bigger, to big to cut so I made a run for it.

Two giant stalagmites blocked the way which made me stop. Not good.

I turned and made another run back to where I came from. Stalagmites were still coming down and each one was getting closer and closer. I didn't think I was going to make it but thankfully did. Once safe, the path was now blocked with fallen pieces of ice.

"I guess that could've ended worse," I told myself and slowly walked back to the three-way split. My form began to shiver as the temperature decreased more. I hugged myself and walked down the middle tunnel.

There was nothing out of the ordinary. That's when something started to crack. I scanned the area until realizing that I was coming underneath me. Slowly, I turned and began to walk back to the three-way split area.

Crrraacckk!

I winced but kept going. Each step felt like forever and couldn't help but feel like I'm melting. Why was it so hot? I wanted to take of my coat but it would've been stupid to take it off in the blistering cold cave.

Snap!

I fell through into ice cold water and struggled to get back onto the surface without breaking more ice. I laid on the smooth floor to catch my breath. My teeth chattered like crazy and nausea settled in my stomach. I groaned from the uncomfortable pain and frigid air. I felt like a burning building on Tatooine.

I stood up, if I stayed then sleep will put a spell on me and will not help to find an exit. I'm not going to die in here.

I made my way to the last tunnel even slower than before.

What was I doing again? Oh wait, finding a way out! Am I starting to forget things? Am I getting sick? If so, is it serious? I decided to brush it off and continued down the tunnel.

Raged coughs sent a pain to my chest and headache through my head. There were times I stumbled and almost lost my balance.

It seemed like the tunnel was getting darker, wider and colder the deeper I went. I took of my soaked gloves with shaky hands and put them in the pockets of the coat. I brought my hands to my mouth and breathed warm air to warm them up. It worked for a second before freezing again.

For some odd reason, it also felt like I was burning up like lava.

"I-It was w-worth a s-s-shot," I mumbled to myself. It has been harder to even walk straight at this point or even concentrate on anything ahead. Like the whole world was spinning fast.

Then, I saw a light up ahead. It was small but it was something.

I sniffed before quietly saying, "H-help." The last thing that I knew were footsteps running towards me and the light was getting brighter. I fell down onto the ground and curled up into a ball. My eyes drooped as whoever it was talking but everything they said was muffled.

My eyes finally shut.

Hera's P.O.V

Five. Five long hours and there was still no trace of Ezra. No call on the comm. No coming back to the Phantom. Nothing. I've looked for two hours near where he was supposed to be but there was nothing except snow and a mountain. I couldn't find any sort of cave until using the Phantom to fly all the way to the other side.

There was a cave and it was pitch black inside. I grabbed my gear and a flashlight then began the journey into the long tunnel.

The deeper I got, the more cold it was.

"Ezra!" I called scaling the light of the torch all over the walls and floor of the cave. It wasn't smart yelling, knowing an animal could come out of no where and attack me. Yet, I may never find the missing padawan if I didn't.

Who knows, an animal may or might be finding him as well but couldn't think like that in this situation.

"Ezra!" I called then sighed muttering, "Where are you?"

"H-help," I weak voice pleaded. My torch shined towards where the voice came from to meet Ezra. The teen fell to the ground in a heap and curled up on himself.

"Karabast," I muttered. I ran over then set the torch aside and kneeling next to him. His skin was a pale blue. Lips were an icy blue almost purple and dark rings were carved under his eyes. His form shivered madly. Ezra was definitely sick, with what was a mystery at the moment.

"Ezra, stay with me," I said tapping his cheek but there was no response. The teen's breathing was shallow. I placed my fingers on the side of his neck to find a weak pulse.

I cursed under my breath then calmed down. Getting angry will not solve anything. I grabbed the flashlight then wrapped my arms around his chest. I began my long trek back to the Phantom while dragging the heavy teen along.

It took a few minutes to finally make it back to the small ship. I opened the small ramp and pulled the teen from the snow onto the metal. I quickly closed the ramp then looked to see if there was anything to help keep Ezra stable as possible.

I took off his soaked snow gear and laid an emergency heating blanket over him. It was like touching ice when my fingers brushed against his skin.

I clenched my teeth. This was all I could do to keep him warm until we get back to the Ghost. I stood up and ran to the pilot's seat and took off to space. Once in hyperspace, I activated the autopilot then scurried back to the sick teen.

I dug through the med kit to find anything that could help. There was nothing. That's when I noticed the tips of his fingers were a dark purple. At first, I didn't know what it was until remembering someone back at the base had the same thing. Something about frostbite. I shook my head, this was all my fault.

I rearranged him around and wrapped the blanket around him more securely. He began to raggedly cough up a storm. I flinched but soon sighed in relief when Ezra's eyes fluttered open. His form shook more under the blanket and teeth chattered.

"H-H-He-ra?" He questioned stumbling on his words, "W-hat's go-ing o-n?"

I smiled a little and gently shushed him. "It's okay. You're going to be okay," I told him but wasn't sure who I was comforting.

   "Wh-at h-happened?" He asked.

"I think you trapped yourself in a cave for so long that you caught a nasty bug," I answered.

   "Wh-y was I-I cat-tching b-bugs?"

I laughed a little then spoke, "Get some rest, you need it." He nodded then slowly closed his eyes and a knot turned in my stomach. He seemed so fragile that it makes me sick and the guilt only in increased.

I ran my fingers through his short hair. He leaned into the touch making some of the guilt subside. I took off my coat and wrapped it around Ezra.

Finally a there was a beep signaling that we were coming out of hyperspace. I left Ezra's side to land the Phantom on Chopper base. There was a jerk that meant that the ship was landed and I quickly stood from my seat. I opened the door and saw Rex come over.

Before he could speak, I interrupted, "Ezra needs help, now." Rex didn't hesitate to follow me back to the ship and help carry the teen to the medbay. He set him down on the medbay bed and a medic droid came in.

"Please leave the premise," it said. Rex and I left the room to wait outside the door.

Rex sat in a seat while he watched me pace the floor. "This is all my fault," I said, "If I didn't recruit Ezra to come on this mission then he wouldn't be like...that."

"Hera, you can't blame yourself for doing something you didn't know was going to happen," Rex replied. I gave him an unconvinced look, "But, I would need to expect it. We've gone on plenty of missions and none of which have been not knowing what was or wasn't going to happen."

He stood up and stopped me in my tracks. His hands gripped my shoulders and I stared into his eyes. "Listen to yourself then. It sounds like you have planned plenty of missions to know the worst of circumstances. So stop blaming yourself because it wasn't your fault."

I faced the floor and nodded slowly. He sighed and let go of my shoulders. "He'll be fine. He's strong." Rex walked off leaving me to stand in the hall alone with my thoughts.

An hour had passed before the doors opened to reveal the medic droid. I stood up and immediately asked, "How is he?"

"Patient is stable and awake if you would like to see him," the droid walked off. I stared into the room then walked in seeing the boy laying in the bed.

Ezra had a breathing mask around his mouth and an IV stuck into his arm. I stood next to the bed and saw blue eyes open towards me.

"How are you feeling?" I asked and he shrugged his shoulders.

"Like I'm burning and freezing at the same time," he rasped, "The droid told me that I had...hyperthermia? I think that's what it said. What's hyperthermia?"

I scrunched my nose to cover my flinch. Out of everything, it had to be hyperthermia. I guess it could of been worse, right?

"It's when your body gets to cold and you lose heat, slowly getting sick. You displayed the some of the symptoms, now that I think about it," I revealed, "I just wasn't able to wrap my mind to think of what sickness you had."

"So Captain Syndulla can lose her quick thinking skills when times are at stack," he joked but I didn't laugh. Instead, I smiled and gripped his hand in mine. He looked up at me and thought he said something wrong.

"Well," I started softly, "It was hard to think when someone I cared about was tangled up with a life and death situation."

   "Hera, I didn't mean-"

"I know," I said, cutting him off.

"You're still here and doing well. That's all that matters," I added making him smile a little.

"I guess...if I was in the same situation, it would be hard to think but thank you for saving me," he told me, voice full of gratitude. His eyes have been drooping the whole time I was in here.

"Before I go," I started, "I'm sorry you had to be in that situation."

   "Not your fault," he said.

"I know that now and have to thank someone for helping me realize that," I said, "Now get some rest."

He nodded and closed his eyes. I let go of his hand and started to walk to the door before pausing. I walked back to the bed and leaned down, placing my lips on his forehead.

I continued my way to the door and didn't need to be a Jedi to feel eyes filled with shock looking at me. I smiled and left the room to go and thank the veteran.
