Ezra's P.O.V
I stood on the other of the window watching an unconscious Hera sleep in a deep coma in the med room.
It's been two weeks since she went into a coma after a bomb fell and she was a little to close. When returning, let's just say, the sight of the Twi'lek gave me chills. Gashes, scratches, bruises were littered all over the exposed skin with blood and dirt staining her torn clothes. We almost lost her quite a few times while on the road to recovery. Since then there hasn't been any sign or change of waking up.
It completely terrified me when bringing Hera in, it gave me relief when finding out that she was going to be ok. Now, I'm worried to think if she will ever wake up, again.
A hand rested on my shoulder but I didn't need to look to know who it was.
"I'm worried about her too," Kanan spoke. I sighed and hugged myself defensively.
"We have to be patient with these things. It takes time for someone to recover from something like that. I know the wait is frustrating but in time, she will wake up," he added, calmly.
"How can you be so sure that she'll wake up?" I asked, "Did you use to force to figure it out?"
"I'm not sure and no, I don't need the force. All you need is to have is a little faith in her," he said, resting both hands on my shoulders to face him. My head was bowed but after the pep talk, I looked up into his green eyes and smiled.
"Ok master, I'll put a little bit more faith that she'll wake up," I responded and he let go of my shoulders.
"Good and to clear your mind, how about some Jedi training," he reasoned and I agreed. He began to walk down the hall. I glanced at the pilot one more time before catching up with Kanan.
*One time skip later...*
The news spread faster than wild fire.
Hera was finally awake.
The crew and I were eager to see her but had to wait for permission to go in for some stupid reason.
"Ugh, how much longer do we have to wait. It's been ages," Sabine whined as she paced the floor. I couldn't agreed more. It was tiring to wait when our friend is finally showing signs of getting better. In some ways, it was like a miracle.
"Just be happy we can actually get a chance for her to even be alive. It could of ended worse and never see or talk to her again," Zeb grumbled, ticked-off with the girl's pacing. It was harsh and I won't blame Sabine for pausing her pacing and sadly looking at the floor. It kind of hurt me a bit too.
"Calm down, this is supposed to be a happy moment. Zeb, the way you explained and said it was uncalled for. Sabine, you can at least be a little bit more patient like the rest of us. I know it's been a stressful wait but it will soon end," Kanan said.
Kanan has been acting more like...Hera in a way...after the said pilot went into a coma. I'll admit, it was very odd for the Jedi to be acting like this. It even weirded Zeb, Sabine, and Chopper. Yet, we all were used to this side of Kanan after awhile. I wonder if he will go back to being normal Kanan than...this Kanan.
All my thoughts were put on pause when the door to the med room slid open to reveal a medical droid.
"Her check-up is done and you can see her now but-"
We didn't have him finish when walking past him and into the room.
In the bed laid Hera with green eyes blinking every once in a while. I paused for a moment feeling that something was...off.
"We're so glad your awake, Hera," Sabine said, smiling down at the pilot and grasping her hand. It seemed to take Hera some time to smile.
"It's good to see your to Sabine," she said. I seemed to be the only one that noticed Hera's behavior. It took her a minute before linking the pieces together to figure out who she was taking too.
Zeb stood on the other side of the bed with arms crossed and a broad smile curved on his lips. Hera glanced at him and seemed to think again before smiling and talking to the Lasat.
Kanan walked up behind me.
"Come on, you out of everyone were anxious to see Hera awake," he said. I could feel him pondering on a reason for why I wasn't moving.
"Is there something wrong?" He asked, questionably.
"Something just doesn't feel right," I said, under my breathe.
"How so?" he asked then said, "Did you hear the droid and I talk?"
"No," I answered simply. He silently nodded.
"Well, she seems ok but I just have this feeling that something isn't right," I added nervously.
"How about we go and see then," Kanan suggested and I agreed unsure. We walked over to the medical bed where Chopper was talking with Hera. I stayed by Kanan's side and carefully watched as the Twi'lek turned her attention to the Jedi.
She smiled and said, "Hi, Love."
"How are you feeling?" Kanan asked.
"Better, but what happened to me?" She asked.
"You were a little to close to a bomb," Sabine answered, "and hit your head pretty good."
Hera took in the new information before looking over at me. At this point, I hugged myself feeling small under the Twi'lek's stare for some reason. It was taking her longer and longer, as the agonizing wait stretched so did my worry. After a long while, she finally answered. I never said I would like the results.
"Do...I know you?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
My eyes widen at her response. She doesn't remember me! Everyone except for Kanan were surprised. I eyed the Jedi and thought of what could possibly be on his mind that we didn't know.
"Kanan?" I said in a wondering tone. He knew something that the droid told him but not the rest of us because we were in a hurry to see Hera.
"Amnesia," he spoke, stroking his goatee in thought.
"Amnesia?" I questioned, "What's that?"
"It's when a person loses some or all of their memories," Sabine explained.
"I've got amnesia?" Hera said suddenly then looked over at me.
"So, I knew you," she said to me.
"Yeah," I answered, quietly.
She narrowed her eyes in thought and tried to remember anything. I hoped she would but it seemed that hope was slim when she pursed her lips, head shaking 'no.'
"Sorry, I don't remember," she apologized. I nodded understandingly and made my way to the door.
"Where are you going?" Zeb asked in annoyed way but I knew home better. He was worried. The others even Hera's worry were all there in the force.
"I'm just gonna to get some air. You guys can help Hera catch up from what she can remember," I told them over my shoulder. I continued to walk and right at the door, Kanan spoke.
"She can't remember if everyone isn't here to help."
I paused at Kanan's words and thought over them.
"What's the point? If she forgot who I am, how is she going to remember anything else?" I asked, turning around and looking Kanan in the eye.
"So you're just going to leave and not do anything to help her remember you? Giving up isn't like you, Ezra," He said, crossing his arms.
"Are you sure about that?" I questioned, pathetically. I knew that I was loosing this fight and needed to leave, yet I stayed.
"You used to be like that but we've seen you grow, I've seen you change, and Hera gave you a chance to do it. Now maybe is the time for you to help and give her the same chance that she gave you," He explained.
"What do I have to give?" I asked, looking down, "She wouldn't be in this situation if it wasn't for me!"
I froze then looked up to see the confusion of the others. I quickly turned and ran out of the room.
"Ezra!"
I heard them call, running after me, and trying to figure out what I meant.
It was me. I set off that bomb and made it explode. It was all my fault that Hera was in this situation in the first place. I don't deserve to be remembered because I'm nothing more than a forgotten rat.
I glanced over my shoulder to see no one so I quickly went into a closet and hid. I made sure the door was locked and blocked myself from Kanan before sitting in the corner of the dark room.
Hera's P.O.V
It all happened so fast.
One minute, the kid was at the door before yelling then ran out. Kanan and the crew called and were about to go after him but I stopped them.
"I'll go," I spoke and tried to sit up.
"You're in no condition-" I raised a hand, cutting Sabine off.
"I'll be fine," I interjected calmly. I pushed myself off the bed and onto my feet, using the railings to keep me from falling.
"Hera, you need to rest. You don't even know where he went," Kanan argued.
"I will once I get to him and talk and I have an idea," I told him before steadying my balance. My feet slowly moved and towards my destination. I had a huge feeling to look in the closet. It was like instinct. I knew where to go without having any doubt of it.
Finally, after a while of wobbly walking, I stood outside of the door. It slid open to reveal some crates and in the corner was the boy. He was in a fatal position and seemed to hide, deeming smaller than he should.
I mean...he looks familiar, what was his name again? Eddy? Evan? Eli? No, those couldn't be right but it did start with an 'E' for sure.
A sniffle snapped me out of my thoughts as my eyes caught the teen peeking up. He immediately hid again but not before I saw puffy, red eyes.
I slowly walked over with help from the wall until carefully sitting down next to the teen.
The boy didn't move or try anything to start up conversation. I guess that means I have to then.
"So...uh..." I embarrassingly spoke, scratching the back of my neck, "What was your name again?"
I didn't think he would reply to such a horrible question. I should know him but, I don't. So it surprised me when he answered.
"Ezra." It was muffled but it was something at least than complete silence. I smiled a little at the victory. It was a start and a huge success to getting to remember again.
The silence grew for awhile until I thought of another question.
"You know how I said that I couldn't remember you?" I asked and the teen looked up suspiciously.
"Y-yeah," Ezra answered.
"Now that I think about it, you do look very familiar. I guess it just took me a little more time to gather my thoughts," I said, looking into blue eyes. He reverted his sad look to one of surprised.
"Really?" He asked and I nodded.
"I may still not fully remember you but maybe they'll come back eventually and we can make new memories on the way," I told him.
Ezra seemed to think about this until a frown reappeared.
"What's wrong?" I asked. I remember that the teen was not one to be seen so sad unless something was really wrong.
"This was my fault that you were in this situation in the first place. I don't want to make it worse for you to remember me," he spoke then muttered under his breath, "Maybe...it's for the best not to remember me at all. I'm not worth it."
People would get sad at the mention of that sentence but I'm not like most people.
Instead, my eyebrows knitted together in anger. "Ezra Bridger! Do not ever tell me your worth like that again because I already know your worth is more than words can say."
I sighed and calmed down, "My point is...don't blame yourself for what you did. In the end, you still came around and saved me."
Now I remember.
"There's to many!" I shouted into the comm then fired over the crate.
"We're on our way, just stay where you are," Kanan's voice came through the comm. I huffed then stole a glance over at Ezra to see him firing over the crate.
"You think they'll make it on time?" He asked.
"I'm not sure but let's give them enough time to get here," I replied then shot over the crate again, hitting a trooper on the helmet. It seemed like more and more were coming from no where.
"Where are they coming from?" I asked annoyed and scanned the area. I couldn't find anything.
"Ezra, give me cover. I need to find the source of where they're coming from," I ordered.
"That's craziest plan you have? That probably beats Kanan's plans," he jokingly replied. There was no time for this.
"You heard me. I'm going now!" I ran from crate to crate to block blaster fire and return it to get a better scope of the area. That's when seeing a docking bay door open and close with a stormtrooper coming out every two minutes.
"Specter 6, I found where the stormtroopers are coming from. Do you still have the detonation button?" I asked.
"Yeah, why?" He asked, confused.
"We're going to put an end to this," I replied, "When I give you the signal, blow this place to smithereens. Got it?" I asked.
"Got it, Specter two," Ezra replied for the final time before I made my move. I detached one of Sabine's bombs from my belt and began to sneak over to the door. After a set of troopers ran through, I ran over and placed the bomb onto the door.
I was about to go back when a pair of arms grabbed me. I struggled to break free and found lost cause to do so. Any minute now, the doors would open and more stormtroopers would come out then Ezra would get captured along with me before help arrives.
I knew what I had to do. I pressed a button on my comm and gave the signal.
After that, there was an explosion and I was barely awake to see someone running through the fire over to me, calling my name.
The last thing I remember was Ezra's terrified face.
He saved me, I think. I should of been a lot worse and would of died but somehow, he kept me alive.
"Thank you, Ezra." I said, smiling.
The boy looked flabbergasted and speechless but soon he looked down and there was a smile. I wrapped an arm around his shoulders and we both knew that everything would be okay.
