Chapter 14

Kirstie

"Babe have you seen my keys?" I asked Jeremy.

He was sat on the couch doing something on his laptop.

"No honey I haven't. Where are you going?"

"The band is meeting up at Scott and Mitch's house to work on the album. If only I could find my- aha! Found them!" I exclaimed.

I then walked over to Jeremy and gave him a kiss. Then went over to Olaf and Pascal who were both laying down in their beds and gave them a big kiss and a quick belly rub before jumping into my car.

I make the twenty minute drive to their house and was surprised at how breezy the LA traffic was today.

I parked my car next to the curb in front of their house and grabbed my purse and water before getting out.

I rang the door bell and was greeted by Mitch who looks like he hasn't slept in days. His eyes had bags under them and his hair wasn't neatly combed to the side like it always was. Instead it was a ruffled mess, obviously untouched.

"Hey Kirst!" He attempts to say cheerful. "Come on in."

"Hey Mitchie. Everything okay?" I asked.

"Yeah everything is fine. Why do you ask?"

"Well not to be rude but you look a hot mess Mitch. What's going on?"

We enter the living room and find Scott sitting there.

"Where's everyone else?" I asked.

"We wanted you to come a little bit earlier." Scott confessed

"Why is that?" I asked. My worry growing rapidly.

"It's about Rachel." Scott said without looking at me.

When is it never not about Rachel.

"What happened now? Is she okay?" I asked.

"She found out that we were lying to her about where her mom was. Well fake mom. She hasn't talked to us in three days. She refuses to eat or leave her room. We've given up. We don't know what to do anymore." Mitch proclaimed as he hung his head and shame.

I sigh as I come to a realization of why they wanted me here early.

"You want me to talk to her don't you."

They looked at me with despair in their eyes. They've truly given up.

"Okay, I'll try my best."

"She's in her room." Mitch said.

"Thanks Kirst." Scott said before I turned to climb up the stairs.

I reached her room and the door was closed. I knocked three times and waited for a reply. Not receiving one, I turned the knob but she had locked the door.

"Rachel, it's me Kirstie. Can you open the door please?"

"Yeah I can but it's the matter of if I want to." She retorted.

"Rachel please just open the door."

A few seconds last before I heard a few thuds and the click of the knob turning. Once the door was open I looked into the room. The curtains were drawn making it very dim. Rachel was propped up with her crutches with a messy bun in her hair. She went back to her bed and put her headphones in, completely ignoring me. I closed the door and stood there looking at her. A couple minutes passed and nothing was said. Then she ripped her headphones out of her ears and looked at me.

"I know why you're here. They sent you up her to talk to me."

"Listen, Rachel, I know how you feel and I know that you're hurting but-" I was cut off by a very sarcastic laugh from Rachel.

"You have no idea what I'm going through. You don't know how I feel. You don't know what it feels like to be assaulted and beaten by a woman you thought was a mother to you all along. You don't know what it's like to be told that they've found your actual family only then to find out that they died and you'll never get to meet them."

Her voice was getting louder and louder with each sentence. The tears were on the verge of spilling out.

"You don't know what it's like to trust someone and think that they're your friend but you were wrong about them! You don't know what it feels like to lose everything you've ever known!"

I grabbed her into a hug and she let out a loud sob. She collapsed in my arms and I had to hold back my own tears. She was right. I didn't know.

"I'm so tired of crying. Of living this way. I'm so tired of not being able to forget about everything that's happened to me. Everyday I wake up thinking I'll feel better but I don't. I'll never feel better."

"But that's where you're wrong. You will get better. You're not alone Rachel. I know you feel that way but there's so many people here that want to help you. I want to help you. Todrick wants to help you. Avi wants to help you. Kevin wants to help you. Most importantly your parents want to help you. They were just trying to protect you."

"I'm a horrible person." Rachel whispered.

"No baby." I peel her away from me and held her shoulders. I looked straight into her eyes that are red and puffy from crying. "You're not a horrible person. You're just going through too much. They understand. They know that. This is all new to them and its hard seeing you like this. They love you and they just want the best for you. You have to understand that. Okay?"

She takes a deep breath in and nods. She wipes away some tears that fell and flattens down her stray hairs.

"Can you tell them to come to my room?" She asked.

"Of course honey." I responded. I wiped her cheek with my thumb and got up to leave.

I got downstairs and Scott and Mitch immediately stood up from where they're were sitting on the couch.

"How'd it go?" Mitch asked.

"She's in a bad place right now. We all know that. You just got to take it slow with her. Don't worry about her so much and give her a little space. She asked to talk to you guys up in her room."

"Thank you so much Kirst. We really appreciate it." Scott said.

"Of course. Anytime guys. You know you can always come to me for help. Now go see your daughter."

Never thought I would say that to them.
