The Rejection

Can you imagine a time where you were filled with the hope of what your future would bring?

When you grew up, imagining what the world would be like when you were ready to venture out on your own? Or maybe, with someone else?

I had been inundated with stories about true mates, the basis of the long line of werewolf species, every little girls dreams and every father's nightmare.

That was my life. My parents were true mates, an occurrence that seemed rare once upon a time, when packs would live so far from one another, that coming into contact with one would result in an immediate Alpha challenge. Now in the modern day and age, true mate pairings while still uncommon, were lifelong dreams of every pup since they could understand the meaning.

Meeting your true mate felt like human love, only much better, or so I've been told. It felt like you were sleep walking prior, and now, you were awake. They made you feel complete and whole, like there was nothing worth remembering before the moment you met them. You felt what they felt, you lived how they lived, and the best part of all? You were both one half of a whole.

My heart fluttered the day I met my mate. He was one of the new guys in our the neighbouring pack, the Silent Moon pack. A smaller pack was attacked by rogues, with the Alpha of the Silent Moon pack accepting the influx of new pups and mates into his. We were no longer the creatures of nightmares and horror stories that the humans enjoyed telling. We were loving creatures that mated for life and fought for our family, our pack, till our last breath.

He was sitting with the other new comers, quiet, sullen, and in a corner. We had our annual meet and greet and like most unmated daughters, my 18-year old ass sat with the group of singles.

I had always hoped my mate would be in a pack that was close by, so I wouldn't have to leave my parents and brother. We weren't any higher up's in our pack, but we lived comfortably, we all did in the Lunar Light pack. Our Alpha was gracious and kind, and we had evolved from the constantly fighting species we were known for.

"Kassandria, do you think finding a mate feels like gas?" Casey spoke, holding her hand to her stomach as we both sat at the picnic table.

I looked at her, and face was turning a pale green, a slight change in her shade that a human wouldn't have noticed. I opened my mouth to respond when I heard the most angelic voice from across the field, "Mate."

The word echoed around me, and I could tell some of the adults had heard, as they looked around to see the two teenagers stand and gravitate towards one another. It was like an invisible pull and I couldn't do anything but follow it. I also didn't want to fight it.

My wolf, Shelina howled. The sound coursing through my body, my eyes flashed as did his as we neared each other. I could smell the excitement and lust coming off of him and I'm sure he could to when I detected the slight twitch of his nose before he reached his hand out, onto my throat.

The touch sent ripples through me, the feeling of anxiety I had earlier now turned into something I knew I could control - passion.

I leant into his hand, my own coming up to hold his wrist as he lowered his mouth to mine. It was like there was only the two of us.

And then my world came crashing down.

"I, Cameron Pac, reject you as my mate."

The pain of the string between us being cut was unbearable and I let out a choked scream.

How could this be?

Hello everyone!

I know I know, I'm starting a new book! I love reading werewolf stories (the hopeless romantic in me loves the idea of someone loving you forever and ever), that I thought I would write one myself!

Please let me know what you all think :)
