Chapter 56
Valencia
My eyes looked at Demyan who had the most confusing look on his face.
I still had very little idea why I was sitting here with Dimitri Oligarch who had himself made me a drink treating me as if I was his old friend. Somehow it felt like he and Cillan had just taken over Demyan's office.
I was called from my room and when I had denied Dimitri had come to my room telling me that it was time to come out of my shell. I had looked at him trying to figure out his game plan and to still this point I was a bit lost with him. He acted so interested in my life that if there existed a power to swap would he would have done that. So with my hair still wet, I climbed down the stairs following him to Demyan's office to find Cillian playing all the CCTV footage.
He just acknowledged me before he went back to playing that footage again. Right now I really wanted to be a mind reader to understand what was really going on.
"What is happening here?" I wanted to ask the same question Demyan was but I was quietly sitting here on the chair sipping on expensive whiskey.
"And what does he mean by that?" He asked facing me and I just gave him a blank stare.
What does anyone mean by what? I wanted to ask but I just sipped on whiskey. I was all out of my wits for now. I just wanted to lose control for an hour, forget everyone's existence and sleep maybe.
"I'm asking you something," he looked pissed off, even angry but I just didn't care. I just put the glass to my lips and gulped down the whiskey as we looked at each other.
"Calm down, son. The day has just begun for you. There is a lot you have to learn and close the fucking door," Dimitri answered him with a smile as I smiled at his words. Suddenly it felt like Demyan has been put in place and I was coming to enjoy all of this. He shut the door close.
"Calm down?" a bewildered expression had taken over him. "You are asking me to calm down. An unknown person is in my office and god knows doing what in my computer. Then there is her who has brutally killed Elijah and now I got to know that she is married to Viktor also. It might be something you could be fine with but my world is pretty much upside down."
"Just like you had turned mine," Cillina spoke up standing up. My ears perked up at hearing him. He had been so silent and acted like a loyal servant to Viktor that it was hard to see him doing anything without Viktor's command.
"I don't even know you!" Demyan yelled as Cillian stood with his hands in his pocket.
"Only if you hadn't tried to kill me then none of this shit would have happened," he replied. "You just wanted to kill Ivan's son and without knowing any truth you sent people to kill me. If only you hadn't put light over me none of us would have been in this mess." Cillian snapped at him. It felt to seem him mad like this. He had always been calm and composed. I wanted to pat him over the shoulder for braving up.
I was sure I had a screw loss today because this all seemed too unrealistic for me.
I looked at my empty glass of whiskey and then at Dimitri. Had he mixed something in it? Demyan's face was filled with shock. Everyone thought he was dead. Hell, I had thought he was dead. His existence was alien to me.
"Viktor killed you," he snapped back at Cillian and all that was missing was them aiming guns at each other.
"I need another," I moved in my seat getting up, having all eyes on me. Under the watchful eyes of all three people, I poured myself a good amount of Demyan's whiskey. I smelled it and yeah this was expensive.
"Carry on," I told turning towards them as I stood against the small bar with my ankle crossed.
"What the fuck happened to you?" Demyan snapped at me and I just shrugged.
"You did and then your half-brother. I swear, none of you being born would have been a blessing on this Earth," my words literally pissed this man off but I didn't care a shit about it.
"Then you shouldn't have fucked Viktor," he told me with a smirk on his face. "It would have been better if you had stayed with me at least you wouldn't have turned into this." I laughed at his words and that too loudly.
"Gosh, under what are you living?" I asked standing straight. "What is there not to like about this woman I had turned in," I tilted my neck to the side.
"Let me tell you I had so much fun and fucking pain at the same time in the past three years that I can't express in words, you little shit." I snapped at him. "If I had stayed with you I knew where I would have been and that would be underground in a coffin. I might have left you but I didn't go to him willingly. He kidnapped me. He fucking did it and I just adapted to my circumstances." Putting the glass to my lips I just drank it like it was fucking water. This conversation was overdue for three years or more. Only if these assholes would have stayed from me the worst I could have been was a victim of a sleazy man. Damn, my life was already fucked up from the beginning. I just threw the glass on the floor to let it shatter because my life somehow felt shitty from all angles.
"I know how you feel now," I pointed my finger toward Cillian.
"I think all of us need to calm down a bit and talk about this altogether." Dimitri stood up and walked right in front of me. The glass crackled under his feet as he got to me.
"There is no point in getting angry and mad dear," he calmly told me. "Right now you have got to choose who are you going to side up with and what you are going to do. For three years Viktor had ruled over your life before Demyan had been with you. Now all the cards are in front of you. It's all about what you and Cillan want right now."
"We all have children to think about," he added.
"It would be really great if someone could explain something to me," Demyan spoke calmly this time.
"Let's all sit down first," Cillian walked towards me. "We all could do with a drink and no more breaking glasses," his eyes pointed at me.
"Here have a look at this," he gave me his phone as he got to make some drinks behind me. I looked at the photo on the phone. It was Sophia and a woman crying. I looked back at Cillian who had his back on me. What was I to see in this? Something was wrong but I just couldn't put a finger on what it was.
"This is how he has been meeting her," he said without turning around. "He had to go like this because you did something out of the blue or in other words without his command."
"Well so did he," my reply was quick. "He was never on my side from the beginning, right?" I asked but got no reply back.
"At least now I know where he has been when he said he was doing something important," Betrayal hurts like bitch. Fuck it feels like a knife pushing inside of you from the back. I had slept on the pain ever since I had connected the dots. My not so fucking first husband was cheating on me. I wasn't at all concerned about the fact that he was fucking her or not because we were set on that. We weren't in monogamy. We could fuck whoever we liked but it was the loyalty that had to bind us together. Suddenly that understanding and loyalty seemed to have gone.
He was with her. He loved her and I knew he would do anything for her. I could see in those eyes. When he had got me to train he had told me that he would turn me into a perfect weapon and he had done for that to pave a path for him. What a fool I had been to believe that together we could achieve something big. There was never an us, to begin with.
"Was our marriage registered?" The question popped into my mind as he turned towards me with two glasses one to Dimitri. Picking up the bottle he gave it to Demyan.
"You will be in need of this," he told him before moving to sit down where I previously was.
"It is registered. I went myself to give those papers," he was sure but suddenly I wasn't.
"Check the names again and also check for any other certificates. I have a hunch that something is wrong there or has been for too long," he looked at me for a few seconds before nodding his head.
"How many people have you killed?" Demyan asked downing a gulp of whiskey straight from the bottle.
"I've lost count," I replied and for once I was amazed by the fact that I didn't know how many have I killed. The only face I remember killing vividly was Ivan who in the end had done nothing wrong. Fuck he didn't put up a fight and died too easily. All the people I had killed before him didn't matter nor did those after him. Viktor wanted me to clear the path for him and that meant giving me a target that I would do everything to get to.
He made my revenge against Demyan an unhealthy obsession. There never went a day he didn't me remind how my mother was killed. I could see all the traps he had set for me, all the mind games he had played. I might have lost my aim at times but he had never.
"You are married to him. You are an assassin. You are ruthless, no longer a naive person. Just like mine, your hands are covered in blood and If I'm right you want to kill me." he spoke smiling and it felt like either he was getting somewhere or losing his mind.
"Destroying and killing you was always the plan Viktor had fed her," Cillian spoke up. "You wanted me dead but Viktor killed me first. You both wanted her but thanks to you she is yet alive because if Viktor had got to her first then she would have already been dead."
"Dad knew that he couldn't protect any of us. He had two kids and he spent his life away from both of us. All through his life, the only mistake he had made was to bring your mother to the states who had wanted to run away herself with you both," he said with a hint of sadness on his face. I wanted to relate to it but I had no idea what kind of man he really was.
"He didn't want to go against the Bravata so he kept the little truth and where did that get him? murdered and that too by the hand of his own daughter." I leaned against the bar table as he spoke.
"He knew that it would happen," Dimitri told with a hand on Cillian's shoulder. "He was prepared for it. This world is full of betrayals and deception," his eyes turned to me. "Ivan knew that they would hunt you down because they had done the same with Cillian when he was just five. He had to raise another boy instead of his own so he could live by sending you to me. He saw these things a lot ahead of you but at least he lived to his sixties."
"You told me not to go after revenge but I just didn't hear you then," Demyan said as he sat on the table. "Elijah told me that Ivan kidnapped my mother and killed her later own but it was my father with the Bravata that killed her. I believed him because you had turned me down," his eyes were on Dimitri.
"Would you have believed me?" Demyan just lowered his head and downed the whiskey in the bottle. "You wouldn't have and I wanted to let everyone live as peacefully as they could. When you took over my place with Elijah's help, I knew it that he was doing everything for himself. When Viktor came to you for help, Elijah had filled you with enough hatred for him and you rejected him without using your mind."
"Elijah came to his help like an angel indebting him with his generosity which was nothing but a farce," he looked at me. "He killed his mother in the end and blamed it on Demyan. All his misery he blamed it on Demyan. Then he sent Viktor to Ivan," he sighed as he looked at Demyan.
"Your father made a wise decision sending you here," his face turned to Cillian. "Viktor killed the fake Cillian and told the world that Demyan had done it and that's how you fell right into this game. Ivan and I got to know this later; by then, it was already too late for everything. Viktor had supporters of his own as he made his way up to Ivan. He was his right-hand man I told Ivan about what Viktor had done and what was happening."
"He had no idea about anything and it was only when I was killed you sent me back," Cillian took a sip of his drink. "Do you know he hated the idea of me being there? I never got to know why that to till this day so if you want to feel guilty over the fact that you killed him then don't," he added and I just looked away from him only towards Demyan. He just stared at me before shaking his head and bringing the bottle to his lips.
"Demyan thought he had killed you but in reality, it was Viktor who had done it. When things were getting a little out of hand here, I sent you back to Ivan. You are right he hated the idea of being there. He saw you both as a weakness for him. Till the end, he didn't let anyone know. This only stayed between the three of us. However Demyan came to know about Valencia and the hunt for her began," he sighed looking at me.
"I didn't," Demyan chimed in. "Natalia did and you might think that you would have been better if she hadn't found you but you were already at your at your lowest when I met you."
"And that is supposed to make everything good between us." Sparke of anger rose in me.
"I gave you the vendetta that you wanted!" He took a step towards me and I was ready to slap the shit out of him.
"And kept in the false pretense of love for your own sick vendetta!" Both of our voices raised as we got closer.
"I kept you happy. I gave you everything. In all those years I never hurt you," he stood straighter.
"But you would have eventually. You would have killed me!" I saw it coming. His hand to the back of my neck pulled me closer.
"I'm tired of hearing this," the smell of alcohol didn't make me feel disgusted neither did his touch. "It was never my plan to kill you. All I wanted was to keep you enslaved to me. I would have kept our kid. I wouldn't have killed you. Yes, I would have hurt you but even I didn't know what I would have done with you!"
"You grew onto me and yes I hated that but all this saying that I would have killed you fuck I didn't know what I would have done. All you hear is just speculation of I would have done what others said. All just rumors," he pulled me closer by his hold on my neck.
"I don't believe a word you say," I smiled, and before he could register I slapped him in the small place we got. My hand went to his hair and I pulled those without mercy making him scream.
"You should," Dimitri spoke up. "Because I was the one who circulated that rumor." All eyes in the room turned towards him and so did mine.
What the hell was this old man playing at?
What is this old man playing at ?
That's what the real question is. Was he a helper or just another man to bring them down?Hope you all loved the chapter
