Chapter Five
When I awoke the next day, I felt slightly rejuvenated from getting the first peaceful sleep in years.
I usually never slept peacefully at my old pack, I was always on edge and my wolf was always on edge to protect me so we were pretty much restless a lot of the time which meant not a lot of sleep.
I had laid in bed for a while just thinking over everything that happened and my luck in finding an understanding pack that not only let me stay with them but they gave me a job, agreed to let me train and even offered me a spot in the pack to stay there.
Most rogues were not that lucky and most packs weren't that. I guess they genuinely could tell that I wasn't a threat. As I laid there though, a thought popped up that made me sit up in bed and face palm.
I had completely forgotten my appointment at the passport office. Which meant I'd have to make a next appointment and it would set back my time here. Don't get me wrong, I like it here, the pack seems okay but I'd feel much safer somewhere further away where Caiden can't find me.
I would talk to the Alpha about getting help to get my passport and visa. Packs usually had members everywhere working in government offices as an insider to help out in needed times.
I'm sure this pack might have someone working there that could help me and speed up the process. My plan is to hopefully stay here about a month for the most.
I would work, save money to help me get where I need to and I would train to help me become stronger and be able to defend myself.
I checked the time on the clock on the wall opposite the bed, it was half 6 in the morning.
Those guys had said training starts at like 7 or half 7 I think. I can't remember honestly.
Since I was already awake, I might as well get up and get ready for the ahead.
The floor that I was staying on had a lot of rooms and a good amount of bathrooms to match so finding an empty one especially at this time in the morning was relatively easy.
I did worry about taking too long and leaving someone else waiting or having them knock on the door to hurry me up but none of that happened.
I had walked with my clothes with me to change after I showered because there was no way I was going to be walking out of the bathroom in my towel back to my room with unmated males walking about especially when I was a rogue and some males think that means the female is fare game.
I hated male wolves who thought that way, as if just because the she-wolf was a rogue meant that she was less than. I hated all persons or packs that thought of all rogues as less than just because they didn't have a pack.
Don't get me wrong, some rogues are just plain evil and up to no good, but majority aren't like that. Some wolves can't handle authority, they like doing their own thing while some wolves can't handle pack life, they enjoy being alone. While other wolves were travelers, they never really stayed one place for too long.
There was lots of reasons why some wolves are rogues and I understand the hesitation of some packs to trust them especially since most packs encounter the bad ones because the good ones don't interact with packs.
You should get something to eat before going to training Jade.
My wolf tells me this as I walk back into the room that was given to me after I showered.
She's right, not only were we hungry and should get something in us before to training to be energized but our past pack hadn't fed us much.
The twins had said that breakfast is served from about 8-10 I believe, so it should be a bit after 7 by now, I could make myself some coffee and maybe some toast and eggs, a light breakfast.
I was lost in thought as I exited my room to go find the kitchen, I wasn't really paying attention to the layout much yesterday but I'm pretty sure if I used my heightened sense of smell, I'd be able to find it with ease.
I probably should have been paying attention where I was going though because not a couple seconds later I had knocked into something, not something, someone. A male.
The impact had caught me off guard and I kind of fell on my ass. I rolled my eyes to myself as I got off the floor and looked to the guy to mutter a quick,
"Sorry didn't see you there, goodbye."
As I turned to leave though, the guy grabbed my wrist, which made me turn back to actually look at him.
"Wait."
He was tall, taller than me with brown hair and blue eyes, he was also kind of lean. He wasn't skinny but he also didn't have much muscles but he had some. He was okay looking I guess but I did not want him touching me.
I pulled my hand away and waited for him to say whatever it is he was wanted to say, hoping he'd hurry it up because I had more important things to do, like eating.
"Are you new here? I don't feel like I've seen you before and you don't smell like the pack. Oh wait! Are you that rogue Alpha told us about?"
I looked at him blankly, I really wasn't feeling the need to open my mouth and speak, it's so much work. He didn't care that I didn't respond though, he kept talking.
"Of course you're her. Wow I was not expecting you to look this good. How about you and me get to know each other later?"
He had this stupid smirk on his face as if he thought I'd be flattered and want to get to know him. He was wrong.
"Look dude, I'm not interested, maybe go wait for your mate because it's definitely not me."
With that said, I walked away to go back to my mission of finding the kitchen, I did turn back to glance at his reaction to my words, he was still standing there watching me confused. Good for him.
I did eventually find the kitchen after a couple wrong turns and not using my sense of smell correctly but I still found it.
There was an older lady who looked to be around her fifties yet she didn't look old and frail. I mean she was a wolf, we age slower so her being in her fifties wasn't a bad thing.
She looked exactly like you'd expect a fifty something year old female werewolf to look, she was a bit plum in size and had some grey hairs at her temple but the rest of her hair was a nice dark brown.
She was currently bustling around the kitchen and ordering around a couple of what looked to be like teenagers.
It seems they were making breakfast for the pack, it makes sense, breakfast would be served soon and feeding a pack of wolves wasn't easy.
It made me wonder what time they got up to start preparing meals for the day and it also made me wonder how they did breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I mean if you think about it, by the time the pack was done with breakfast, they'd have to start lunch and then as soon as the pack was done with lunch, they'd have to do the dishes and prepare for dinner.
It seemed like such a chore thinking about it and this pack looked to have around two to three hundred people. I could never.
"Can we help you with something or are you just gonna stand there?"
I looked over at one of the teenagers that had said it, a girl who looked extremely bored and annoyed. The older lady stopped what she was doing and hit the girl lightly at the back of her head with her palm, making her wince slightly and rub the area.
It wasn't a serious lash like a beating, it was more like a teacher or grandmother scolding you for something. It was more playful than hurtful.
The girl grumbled something under her breath at the woman and muttered quick sorry.
I didn't realize I had been standing there just watching them lost in thought. I also didn't realize that after the woman hit her, I had grabbed my arm and curled into myself, hugging my body.
I guess it made me remember how I was treated at my old pack. It took me a second to unfurl my arms and let them drop to the side of me instead.
They were all watching me now, about six teenagers and the old lady. A good mix of boys and girls were here. I liked that it wasn't just the girls helping in the kitchen. I really can't stand the sexism in packs sometimes you know.
"Get back to preparing breakfast and mind your business."
The older lady was definitely the head of the kitchen and cooking and all things food with the way it seemed. As soon as she had said that, they all went back to doing what they were doing.
She had came over to me and looked at me with understanding and pity in her eyes. I didn't want that. I did not want pity. I was fine.
"Can I get you anything? You're the new rogue that Alpha told us about right?"
She looked so kind and felt so warm, she wasn't even touching me, her presence just felt warm and safe. Which was strange considering how she went from strict cook to loving grandmother.
I nodded my head in answer to both her questions. I was feeling confused. The people in this pack made me feel confused.
I know not all packs and people are the same but the Alpha and Luna were very welcoming to me and helpful. The twins from yesterday weren't all that but it makes sense, they're warriors, they'd be on edge a bit around me.
"Do you want some toast and eggs? With bacon and some juice?"
I looked up at her as my stomach growled in response to her question and I uttered a very quick yes while nodding.
"If it isn't too much of a bother, I'd love some thank you."
She smiled and grabbed my hand and pulled me over to a counter in the kitchen by some bar stools. She put me to sit on one and went to grab a plate and filled my plate with some toast, eggs and bacon.
She placed it in front of me and the grabbed a glass and went to the massive fridge and pulled out a jug of juice before pouring it into the glass.
She placed the glass next to me as well and told me to enjoy as she went back to busting around the kitchen.
It felt kind of weird to sit there and eat while there were essentially strangers around me working but eh, who cares.
I was starving. I ate everything. I don't know if it's because I'm in a new pack and better place but damn those eggs tasted better than regular eggs.
I carried my plate and cup to the large sink and washed it before putting it in the dish tray. I would have felt like shit if I had just left it there. They had enough work to do as it is.
"Oh dear, you didn't have to do that, it's our job after all."
" I really didn't mind doing it, you guys already made the food so it wasn't much."
"We'll thank you dear. Now I'm Maggie and I do the cooking for the pack but I'm also a lot more than that so if you ever need anything, just ask."
She had this twinkle in her eyes as she spoke. She just emitted joy and warmth. It slightly disturbed me but also made me feel comfortable. Hm.
"Could you by any chance tell me where the training fields are? I'm supposed to be training with Jake and Blake?"
"Oh sure! Just go out that door to the left and keep walking straight till you meet the clearing. You can't miss it. Im pretty sure those boys are already out there."
"Thank you!" I beamed at her and turned to the door she was talking about and left through it.
Wow the pack lands were beautiful. The door led straight outside to the pack community.
It felt so good to be outside, to be without worry about my old Alpha.
It felt peaceful as I walked to the clearing, I felt my wolf inside me shift a bit. She too was enjoying the outside. She wanted to shift and explore and run in peace. She wanted to relax a little.
We had both been on edge forever, it was nice to breathe a bit.
I came to a stop in front the clearing, as suspected, both Jake and Blake were already there.
They looked to be sparring with each other. I could tell from watching them that they were both skilled warriors. They were equally matched as well.
It seemed that neither was stronger than the other. They really were twins huh. As if sensing me, they both looked stopped sparring and looked at me.
They motioned me over with their hands. I left the spot I was in the go over to them, upon reaching closer I could see the sweat that glistened their skin.
Ew. I scrunched up my nose and face. I mean it makes sense but it's still gross.
Jake was the first to speak, " Hiya Jade! You're up earlier than we expected but who cares. It just means more time to train."
He shrugged as he said it. Blake rolled his eyes at his brother before speaking.
"Today you're gonna fight one of us in human form and the other in wolf form. It's to see what skill level you are at before we start training you."
"It's also to see what needs to be correcting in your way of fighting. Finding your strengths and weaknesses to help you improve," Jake added.
They have got to be kidding me. Couldn't they just teach me how to throw a punch and kick or make me run some laps first.
Why they gotta just throw me head first into fighting two grown ass warriors. Pfft what am I thinking. I could totally take them.
You definitely can't.
Wow my wolf didn't even believe in me.
You can't as yet. We're strong but we need training, once we're trained, we'd be able to take them both.
Oh she said that so smugly that I almost believed her. I honestly just wanna be strong enough to defend myself, not to take on two full grown warrior wolves.
Okay. I can do this. They wouldn't purposely go hard on me right? It's just training right?
They both looked at me and clasped their hands infront of them while Blake looks at me expectantly and Jake grins at me.
"So, who do you wanna fight first? We promise we won't go easy on you." Jake grins the whole time he says this. That looks like an evil grin but Blake scares me more.
"Looks like I'm fighting you in human form Jake. I'm pretty good at screaming so look out for that."
I said that with so much confidence, I'm pretty sure Jake was confused, like what did screaming have to do with fighting?
Oh he'd see.

Hey guys I am sorry for not updating. Writing a book is so much harder than it seemed. I got this idea in my head of a story that I wanted to read so I decided to write it.
But I'm a busy student with a crazy home life and a lot going on. I promise I'll try to write more chapters from now on. Atleast once a week.
Thank you for reading my book.
