I'm Here

I'm always here for you as a living example of how things could be much worse. -???
"So how'd it go?" I asked Momiji absentmindedly as I skimmed through my book.

"I think it went good?" He said hesitantly.

"You think?" I asked, putting my book down. "What happened?"

"Well we went to a haunted house and Tohru was really scared." Momiji began. "Yuki and Kyo were arguing who should hold her hand since her eyes were closed. While they were arguing, I got to hold her hand." He said sadly.

"Isn't that a good thing?" I asked gently.

"I don't know." He frowned.

"I-I feel like she's treating me like a little brother or a child. And I didn't feel anything when I was holding her hands. When I looked at her I saw that she really wanted to be with Kyo..." He trailed off.

I ruffled his curly blonde locks,"C'mon, you're worrying too much. This is a new crush. You might not be able to decipher your feelings yet. Don't worry about Tohru. You're an amazing guy, eventually she'll see that. Just keep being the good old Momiji." I assured.

He released a breath of air and smiled innocently. His phone buzzed and he glanced at it with a pout.

"Tori needs me." He grumbled.

I stood up and walked him to the door.

"Sorry 'bout this Hinata. Thanks though. For the advice. I'm really lucky to have you by my side." He smiled gently and reached out.

I stepped back quickly and gave him a shaky smile. "No problem."

He let his arm fall limp and we stood in a tense silence.

"Y-you should probably go. Hatori is a force to be reckoned with." I forced a chuckle.

He nodded and sent one last glance, lingering at the door before turning away.

I bit my lip and turned away, blinking back frustrated tears.

We weren't the same and it was killing me but I didn't want him to catch up on my one sided school girl crush.

A knock at the door alerted me.

"Hinata who's at the door?" Tohru called.

"I don't think we were expecting anyone." Yuki said thoughtfully, appearing from upstairs along with Kyo.

"If it's my editor don't tell her I'm here~!" Shigure giggled.

I glanced at him in disbelief before shaking my head.

"It's probably just Momiji. He most likely forgot something." I shook my head.

"Momiji what did you forget th-" I paused as a familiar elderly woman stood at the door.

"Oh, I'm hello ma'am." I said politely, opening the door wider.

And then the woman was crying.

"E-excuse me? A-are you alright?" I panicked in bewilderment.

"Eh? Who was it-" Tohru paused as she saw the elderly woman crying softly.

"Honda-chan who is it?" Yuki asked quietly.

"I-I don't know. I just opened the door and she started crying."

"I'm s-sorry." The woman sniffled before smiling softly. "You just look so much like your mother."

"W...what?" I stuttered.

"Hinata Mei Hayashi, I've come to bring you home."

(That would've been the greatest place to end)

"What are you talking about." I choked out, the silence hung heavy in the air.

"I think you're mistaken." Tohru cut in, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"No, I would know my daughters eyes anywhere. This child is birthed from my daughter." The woman said smiling warmly.

"Ma'am you must be confused." Yuki cut in.

"Did you find her on the streets on January the 3rd?" The woman asked firmly.

"Yes but what does that have to do with anything?" Tohru asked, genuinely frustrated but confused.

"Because that's the day her mother died after running away. Hinata's brother and herself were declared missing from that day on.

"I don't have a brother." I ground out.

"Yes, yes you do. Hideaki Hayashi is his name. I found him in an orphanage in a far off town where he was dropped off by city folk who were passing along here."

"Please stop lying." I pleaded.

"I'm not lying Hinata. I'm your grandmother on your mothers side. I'm here to take you back home."

"Prove it. Prove you are somehow related to me."

The elderly woman brought out a photo of a little girl with short brown hair and honey eyes standing next to a boy with dark brown hair and green eyes. An elder woman stood in the middle that appeared to be a younger version of the woman in front of me.

Tohru shakily brought out a picture.

It was a girl with short brown hair and honey eyes next to a brunette with deep blue eyes.

The little girls were exactly the same.

"This doesn't prove anything." I whispered hoarsely.

"I'm your grandmother Hinata." She smiled lovingly.

"No you aren't." I snapped angrily.

"Hina-"

"No! Don't call me like that as if you care about me! As if you've been there for me! You haven't done anything to even acknowledge my existence until now!"

"Hinata..." Tohru whispered.

"You didn't even try to find me, did you? I was in the same place for all of my life. The place where my mother supposedly died and yet you didn't even look?!" I bit my lip to force back tears.

"I tried." She protested.

"How. Did you put up missing child alert? Did you search the town? Did you even alert the police?" I asked tiredly.

"No but-"

"I'm sorry ma'am but I never want to see you again." I said forcefully.

"Hinata please understand what I was going through! My husband died and then your father died and then my daughter died!"

"Really? Well I lost everything. I lost my brother. I lost my mother. I lost my father. I lost a home. I nearly lost my life. And you want me to be sympathetic because you were grieving?" I asked in hysterical disbelief.

"I know it sounds bad but-"

"Bad?! You think it sounds bad? You are here to take me away from the one thing I have left and you think it sounds bad?!"

"They can't take care of you and your disability. You aren't the same as everyone else."

"Hey, take that back!" Kyo yelled.

"My disability." I clenched my fists, tears finally falling down my face.

"Is something wrong?"

"I'm not going with you."

"They can't take care of you! I can't leave you with an air-headed teenage girl and her little boyfriends and a jobless older man!"

"Leave. Now. I don't want to see you here again." My face hardened.

"I'll take my leave now but I'll come back Hinata. You deserve to be with your family."

"As far as I'm concerned this is my family." I glared.

The door clicked shut.

"Hinata...I'm sorry." Tohru said soothingly pulling me into a hug.

"Tohru please don't." I choked out, standing up.

"Where are you going?" Yuki asked gently.

"I...I just need to be alone." I said, hurrying outside.

I didn't know where I was going. My feet led me down the forest paths as I got lost I my torrent of thoughts.

My parents are dead.

I have a brother.

That woman is my grandmother.

My last name is Hayashi.

I blinked as I realized where I was.

It was the cliff where Momiji took me to watch the sunrise.

I slowly sat down and let my thoughts wander.

The sun was going down. It would probably be nighttime soon.

A glance at my phone revealed it was 6:32.

I huddled within myself, hugging my chilled legs. My arms prickled with goosebumps and realized I had forgotten my jacket.

I was cold but I didn't want to go back.

I sat there for nearly an hour, silently sitting there watching the world go darker.

My phone buzzed continuously. I spared only a glance at it before scratching at my arm.

"You aren't the same as everyone else."

I bit my lip harder before realizing a warm substance was trickling into my leg.

I blinked and looked to see my arms bright red and bleeding from the continuous harsh scratching and touching my lip to see it was dripping red.

I licked it absentmindedly and sighed at myself.

I really was pathetic.

"Thank god you're here." A voice cried in relief.

I glanced back to see Momiji breaking through the forest, coming to a stop next to me.

I looked down and stayed silent.

"W-when Tohru called I thought you had left with that woman." He whispered.

I looked at him and was shocked to see he was crying softly.

"Why would I go with her?" I asked dully.

"You've been so secluded. So unhappy. I thought you secretly were starting to hate me." He whispered hoarsely.

"How could you think that?" I asked in defeat.

"I don't want you to leave. I know I'm being selfish but I can't give you up. Please don't leave." He begged.

"Of course not, idiot boy. I was just trying to give you more time with Tohru. I can't even think of living without you."

"I don't care about my crush! If dating means losing my best friend, I never want to date!" He cried.

I felt my heart crack.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry." I repeated hysterically,

"Please I don't care. Just don't leave me."

"Everything is so messed up Momiji. I don't know what to do anymore." I cried in defeat.

"Tell me everything. I don't care how long it takes. I want to lessen your pain. Please."

My composure cracked.

I felt the tears rush down as I whispered incoherent apologies.

"Oh Hinata." Momiji murmured before wrapping his arms around me.

For a moment. Just a spilt second, I felt his warmth.

Poof!

I scooped up the rabbit and cried into his fur.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

"It's okay Heart Girl. Just cry it out. I'm here for you."

I sobbed helplessly into his fur.

Everything was changing so fast. I wanted things to be stupid and silly, but endearing like they used to be.

I just wanted to be with Momiji.

He nuzzles into my cheek, sharing his warmth. When was the last time we had hugged? I'm sure it was 3 months ago.

I hugged him tighter. I didn't want to let go.

"It hurts." I whispered.

"I know." He nuzzled softly.

"I'm here for you." He assured over and over as I told him what happened.

"Thank you." I whispered helplessly.

Later he treated the scratches on my arm and lip with a some stuff Hatori left with him.

He gave me his jacket and stayed over the night, not saying anything but assuring that even if everyone else left, he would he there.

It hurt and warmed me all at once.

"I'm here." Was all he said as he watched over me.
