Dying Sunflower

~Hinata POV~
"Hinata you have a call in the office." The teacher called. I nodded and walked out the door.

I picked up the phone carefully. "Hello?"

"..."

"...Hai...I understand."

"..."

"I'll see you in a couple of hours grandpa."

I opened Shigure's home door. Tohru was already climbing up the stairs. Apparently she already told them. I could tell Yuki and Kyo were devastated. I'm pretty sure they have a crush on her. Shigure was already teasing them.

I slipped off my shoes and put my bag down.

I walked up the stairs and met Tohru who was staring at a picture of Okaa-san.

"Who am I kidding? There isn't any room for a rice ball in a fruit basket." She sighed.

I shook my head at my adoptive sisters words. The rice ball is the one who brings everyone together.

Besides, I'm the dying sunflower. Slowly wilting as I watch others grow. It's quite sad.

I quickly packed my few things into a bag and walked out the door and downstairs.

"Er Hinata-chan aren't you leaving tomorrow?" Shigure pondered.

I shook my head. "Aunt wants me to come help out today."

"One of our beautiful flowers is leaving. Oh the paaaaaain!" He wailed. I shuffled on my feet. This was getting awkward.

"Shigure shut up." Yuki smacked his head.

"I'm...just...gonna go." I murmured walking out.

"The dishes go here, the pots and pans there, and the cleaning utilities under that cabinet. Unpack those boxes and then you can go to bed." For some reason Aunt never liked me. Whenever I see her she sneers, glares, or just talks to me coldly.

I bit my lip and nodded. This kind of reminds me of that story Okaa-san used to tell Tohru and I. Cin....Cinderella was it? Unknowingly I let a tiny giggle escape me. Tohru would always start crying and yelling about how unfair it was.

After finishing the boxes and eating I went upstairs to my shared room with Tohru and my adoptive cousin. I had to share the bed with Tohru though.

I snuggled into the covers and couldn't help but feel cold. No Tohru or Kyoko to warm me up.

At that moment I really felt like a dying sunflower.

When Tohru walked to our home I immediately walked to her side and smiled up at her.

She looked down with a warm smile. "I missed you Hinata. The bed was really cold without you."

"Gomen." I said.

"Well we better go help." Tohru said walking inside. "I'll go put my things away." She walked to our room.

I walked to the kitchen where Aunt was cooking. A few minutes later Tohru came in.

"Oh Tohru can you get the cooking pan?" Ain't asked as she stirred our dinner. Tohru looked around confused before opening a clear door.

Aunt sighed. "Hinata get the pan."

I hurried to a cabinet and pulled out a pan. "Next time help your step-sister." She said coldly.

"Hai..." I bowed my head in acknowledgement.

I followed Tohru into the dinning room where Uncle and our Cousin were.

"So Tohru, I heard you were staying with 3 men." Uncle said not looking up from his newspaper.

I stiffened as I saw Tohru look up. "What about it?" She asked politely.

"Ehhh?! Really?! No fair!" Our cousin yelled.

"Our son wants to become a government official in the future. Which means if any family member causes problems it wouldn't look very good. So we had the police trace you. I thought it might be drastic but you are Kyoko's daughter after all."

Tohru stiffened up.

"Inside a house with 3 men? I bet you had all sorts of fun didn't you?" Uncle stood up smirking.

"Shut up." I murmured.

"And you? I bet you don't talk and come home late because you became the local whore." He laughed condescendingly.

Smack

Jii-chan slapped Uncle across the face.

Tohru blinked in shock.

"Don't mind them Tohru, Hinata. They are naturally disagreeable people." He smiled.

"Hey!"

"You can't say that!"

"Grandpa?!"

We walked out into the hall and I sat on the stairs calmly overlooking my sister and grandpa talk.

"You can go back you know?" He said and I froze.

"W-what?"

"I'm not trying to kick you out. But I don't want you and Hinata to deal with this."

"I can't..." She sniffled.

"I already had such wonderful things. A caring family, amazing friends, a warm home, and food on my table. Asking for more... I'd just be asking for it." She started crying.

"I want Hinata to have the life I had. I want her to find more friends, have a big family, everything." I shook my head and crawled  up the stairs not wanting to see her cry for my sake.

I quietly closed the door and sat down on our shared bed.

I laid down on the bed and willed myself to sleep.

Just as sleep was overtaking me the door slammed open.

I bolted up and let out a squeak. My heart thudded dangerously, warning me about another attack coming.

Breathe in and out. In and out. In and out.

Slowly I calmed down and my rapid breaths slowed, the dark disappeared from my vision. Yuki appeared with a concerned face.

I shot back, accidentally banging my head on the headboard.

"Itai..." I muttered wincing.

"Honda-chan are you okay?" He asked.

"Uh...Hai..." I looked up confused to why he was here.

"Er Yuki-san? Um...why are you here? If you don't mind me asking." I fiddled my fingers.

"I...we are here to take you and Tohru back." He said.

"N-nani? We? Take us back?" I stuttered in confusion.

"That damn cat and I are taking you and Tohru back to Shigures. He may be a pervert  but he does care for you too." He smiled gently.

I looked at him warily. I could understand why they want Tohru back but why me? I barely talk, I'm barely there, and I'm sick. Granted they don't know about my extremely weak heart.

"Why do you want me back?" I whispered, hugging a stuffed rabbit Tohru gave me for my birthday 5 years ago.

"I don't exactly know how but you became an important part of our family. We need you as much as we need Tohru. I'm not forcing you to come. I'm asking you. So will you come Hinata?" He asked softly.

Slowly I nodded and climbed off the bed. I packed our stuff and followed him downstairs. Tohru already gone. My Aunt, Uncle, and Cousin staring in shock.

We walked out the door and trailed behind Tohru and Kyo.

I smiled a small smile. So small you couldn't see it unless you were right next to me.

I turned my head slightly and saw a dying sunflower. Deprived of warmth. But the a small bit of sunlight touch the tip of its petals.
