Cold

Megumi stared in shock before hurriedly pushing away Momiji gently. Momiji was frozen, the reassuring beats of her heart were absent.
"Heart...Girl?" He whispered hoarsely.
She didn't move. Her chest was still, her skin was slowly being sucked of warmth. Her warm, honey colored eyes were blank and staring into nothing.
Megumi pushed down on her chest three times before blowing air forcefully into her.
He never paused while addressing Momiji.
"Go up." Blowing air. "Get ready to lead them-" Blowing air. "Here. Be quick." Before he turned back.
Hinata's blank eyes broke their spell they had entranced him into and he ran, he ran faster than he thought was possible.
A few tense minutes past before an ambulance came.
He led the paramedics to where Megumi was still trying to pump life back into the lifeless body.
Momiji closed his eyes and turned away as they began to shock her back to life.
1 shock.
2 shocks.
3 shocks.
4 shocks.
5 shocks.
"We've got a heartbeat!"the paramedic feeling her pulse suddenly said.
"Hurry, take her up."
"Kids, I know this must be a distressing situation but I need you to answer a few questions." The paramedic said gently.
Momiji turned to her with his shell shocked eyes and barely managed a nod. Megumi was shaking but he clenched his fists and nodded.
"Does she have any medical conditions?"
"She...she has a weak heart." Megumi murmured.
"How weak?"
"She can't run without it acting up."
"Ok, is she on any medication for it?"
"Her doctor, Hatori Sohma prescribed her medication." Momiji spoke up, his hands were shaking violently.
"We know him, we'll call him down don't worry. Now, do you know how this attack may have been triggered and what exactly happened?"
"We...we..." Momiji's voice broke and he hung his head.
"We were going to watch a movie together. I was waiting for them at the theater and Momiji had sent her ahead so he could get ready. When he got there and saw Hinata wasn't there he was anxious and we went to go look for her. We found her phone on the sidewalk next to a trench that led in the forest and we came down to find her here. That's all. I...we think she may have fallen or was attacked." Megumi said, clutching Momiji's shoulder in reassurance.
Momiji tried for a smile but came up with a grimace.
"Ok, thank you for your time. One of you can come with us but be quick." The paramedic smiled before hurrying to the ambulance.
"Megumi." Momiji murmured.
"It's okay, you can go. I know-"
"No, I need you to go." He whispered, looking pained but determined.
Megumi stared at him for a moment before understanding dawned on him.
"It was that Akito guy, wasn't it?"
"Yes." He ground out.
"What are you going to do?"
Momiji looked at the serious green haired boy with his glinting chocolate eyes.
"I'm going to do what I should have done a long time ago. I'm going to separate from him."
🐰🚫🐰🚫🐰🚫🐰🚫🐰🚫🐰
"Momiji...what a pleasant surprise." Akito smiled from his place on the floor.
Momiji's bangs shadowed his eyes, he could see it. He saw Akito walking away, saw Hinata look past him as if seeing something else, felt her blood tinged fingers touch his cheek before slipping into the mud, and saw her eyes turn from warm honey to a blank muddy brown.
She died. She died for 8 minutes because of him.
Momiji wouldn't take it anymore.
"Akito. I can't stay with you forever." He said coldly.
"Momiji..." He whispered out, reaching for the blonde but Momiji stepped back and glared with all the pain and hatred he could muster up.
"I won't stay with you forever." He cried angrily, angry, painful tears rolling down his face.
"Momiji...don't leave..." He pleaded.
Momiji regarded him harshly. Vaguely, he noticed that he was taller than him now. Fitting, he would always be above this murderer.
"Don't...go...don't leave me behind."
Just what about this pitiful person could bind him? To this small, weak, pitiful person?
"Mo-Momiji! Don't look at me!" He screamed.
"Don't be mad! I'll take care of you!" He begged.
"You?" Momiji laughed humorlessly,"You should go back to your room. I am your tool. Is it a bad thing you hurt me? You don't have to worry. I don't have any bad intentions. The truth is already clear. I'm not coming back." Momiji said, a cold chill spreading throughout his body.
"Wait!" He screamed as Momiji shut the door.
The cold resided heavily on his chest, it was almost painful. As if his heart would stop.
Something was scratching just underneath his skin.
He smiled.
The spirit of the rabbit. It was so close to leaving his body. He just needed one more push.
Suddenly, a sharp pain hit his mind. Momiji yelped and held it in shock. The spirit of the rabbit was screaming in his head, scratching at the inside of his skin.
'What's wrong?' He asked startled.
'Sunflower.'
At that he paled. There was only one girl that could be and she was unconscious in the hospital with Hatori either on his way or there.
Momiji's eyes widened and he ran.

To: Megu
Which room is Hinata in?
From: Momiji
------------------
To: Momiji
Room 113.
From: Megu
Megumi looked up from the waiting room to see a hysterical Tohru hurry inside. A ginger and purple haired pair of boys, though one looked like a girl, were behind her looking confused but comforting her nonetheless.
"Hey you! Aren't you Hinata's friend?" The orange haired one, Kyo maybe, called.
Megumi nodded and they sat by him.
"What exactly happened to Hinata-san?" The purple haired boy, Yuki?, asked gently.
"Hinata had an attack that stopped her heart. She wouldn't respond for 8 minutes. They shocked her back to life but her heart stopped in ambulance 3 times."
At this Tohru cried harder.
"What triggered it?" Yuki asked shakily.
"We think she was attacked." Megumi murmured, looking at the desk uneasily, the boy he tutored, Hayashi, and an elderly woman had been there for the past 10 minutes and it was beginning to bug him.
Hayashi had said he was there to offer support for Hinata but he barely knew her, right?
Yuki followed his gaze and stiffened.
"Honda-san." He murmured.
Tohru looked up and straightened in panic.
"What's wrong?" Megumi asked in confusion.
"That's the lady who tried to take Hinata with her to America." Kyo growled out.
Megumi furrowed his eyebrows in confusion but thought nothing of it when the elderly woman and Hayashi walked outside.
However, when they started moving a stretcher that held a very familiar girl outside to the airport where they transferred patients, he did think of something. Something that would be censored for younger audiences.
"Where are you taking her?" Megumi stood up with a frown.
The paramedic that was pushing the stretcher continued on while a doctor came from the previous room she was in.
"Miss Hayashi is being transferred to a hospital in America. It was requested by her family."
Tohru's blood ran cold and she bolted up.
"What family members?! I'm her sister!" She cried.
"According to the records they provided us, along with a birth certificate, you aren't." The doctor forced a smile.
Tohru began to shake while pleading the doctor that she was her family. They showed up when it was convenient for them.
"I'm sorry Miss, Honda was it? But they are no proof she was ever mistreated by them which gives Mrs. Hayashi full custody over this girl."
"Ma'am this is a mistake." Yuki protested.
"Look kids, I'm doing my job. If you have a problem go to a police department. My patient is not my patient anymore."
Megumi pushed past the doctor and stopped the stretcher.
Hinata was sitting upright, awake thankfully.
"Hinata." Megumi placed a hand on her shoulder.
She turned to him and he froze.
Her eyes were unclear, unfocused, looking at him with no recognition.
"Who are you?" She asked dully before the paramedic separated the boy from her and continued on.
Megumi was frozen in place. They had been friends since elementary school, first year. How could she forget him?
"Wait." He said forcefully and the paramedic gave him an exasperated look and waved his hand impatiently.
"Hinata...you don't...recognize me?"
She stared on with blank eyes.
"What about Yuki?"
She shook her head.
"Kyo?"
Another shake.
"Tohru?"
Shake.
"Momiji?"
"Who?" She asked blankly.
The paramedic wheeled her to the plane as they watched helplessly.
Tohru was crying and halfheartedly fighting against Kyo's reassuring hands.
When the stretcher was turned, and Hinata was facing them, and her blank eyes looked right past them, Tohru broke down completely, Yuki whispered a horrified "Hatori what have you done?", Kyo looked away, as if it wouldn't be real if he didn't look, and Megumi watched them take away his childhood friend, his childhood friend who had no idea who he was.
Megumi wiped away his tears but never turned away.
Even when others said he was creepy, cursed, and bad news, she approached him with a smile.
Before others found out she had a weak heart, she was well liked, that was weakened when she became his friend and utterly destroyed when they found out about her medical condition.
But she was just happy to be his friend.
He never found the words to convey how important she became to him or how to thank her for just being there.
Now he didn't know if ever would. But he would wait. He would wait as long as it would take. When he was legally allowed to leave, he would go to America, he would find her, and he would befriend her again.
It didn't matter if he didn't act upon his real feelings. Megumi knew Momiji and Hinata were supposed to be together. So he would quietly wish it was different but hope it would always stay the same.
Megumi liked Hinata in the way she liked Momiji and Momiji liked her.
But he wouldn't act on it, didn't even know if he still could.
Because when you like someone, you want them to be happy. Even if it means being forgotten, even if it means being alone, even if it means feeling pain in his heart everyday, it would be worth it seeing happiness in those blank, dead eyes.
🐲🐰🐲🐰🐲🐰🐲🐰🐲🐰🐲🐰
Momiji burst through the door, panting from running and fear struck on his face.
Hatori stood near the window. His face half covered by hair, a look of sadness and regret on his face.
"Hatori...what did you do?" Momiji choked out, eyes wide in fear and panic.
"Akito told me...to erase everything from the moment Tohru found her. Including you and Tohru herself." He said sadly.
The spirit of the rabbit felt like it was sinking back into his skin. Please no.
"Where is she?!" He demanded, tears in his eyes.
"The Hayashi's took her to America." He murmured.
Momiji trembled, she was gone.
With that the spirit of the rabbit slammed back into his very core.
He sunk to his knees, the room was dark. There was no light left.
His sunflower left him.
God, it hurt.
He held his shoulders, if only to keep his heart together. Momiji shuddered and felt the tears roll down his cold cheeks.
Cold. I'm so, so cold.
"You loved her didn't you?" Hatori asked sadly.
Yes. His mind responded so quickly he was surprised by how certain he was but at the same time, it was no shock.
Momiji Sohma was in love with Hinata Honda.
Was there really any doubt?
Hinata was his light in the dark.
The first to accept him.
The first to smile at him with such kindness.
The first to push away any threat and just hold him.
The first to be happy just being by his side.
She wasn't the first to be taken away, but she was the first to be the most painful.
"Yes, I love her." He whispered hoarsely.
"She left you this." Hatori said, opening his hand to reveal a note with a Nutmeg Geranium.
(Treat if you know what a Nutmeg Geranium is without looking it up!)
Momiji stared down at the paper and flower.
He could see her delicate handwriting on the outline and he broke down. He fell apart as he realized, he may never see the girl he was in love with since he met her again.
It was painful.
It was heartbreaking.
It was so cold.
Hatori watched the boy break down in painful regret, he knew this pain, except Momiji wasn't given a choice. Hatori took her away like an obedient dog. And she didn't even blame him.
🌻🐲🌻🐲🌻🐲🌻🐲🌻🐲🌻🐲
Hatori walked in, the hospital room was empty except one bed that held the barely living girl.
He stood over her and trembled in uncertainty, his hand wavered over her head for too long, her honey brown eyes opened.
He froze.
She blinked languidly before realizing her position, she pulled off her oxygen mask and looked at him with resigned eyes.
"You know what I'm going to do." Hatori said.
"Yes," her voice was scratchy and painful to hear,"Before you do. Please, do you have a pen and paper?"
Hatori handed them to her with no hesitance.
He waiting as she wrote her message before getting one of the Nutmeg Geranium to go with it and placed it shakily into his hand.
"Please give this to Momiji and tell Tohru I'll be back." She smiled shakily.
"Of course." Hatori forced out before placing a hand on her head.
"I'm sorry." He whispered.
"It's okay, it not your fault. I forgive you." She smiled with her sparkling eyes before a bright flash enveloped the room and she fell back.
The next time she opened her eyes, the warmth was gone, and only heavy fear and panic remained.
Hatori closed his eyes as they pulled her out of the room and watched the rain cry out the sorrow this strange family was experiencing.
How very painful.
How very cold.
