Her New Friend
Lily is in her mid-20s and prefers to live alone. She doesn't have friends and rarely leaves her house. She is a writer and comes from a wealthy family, so she doesn't need to work to meet her basic needs.
Today forecasters are saying that rain could start at any moment. The winds have already started to blow fast. Lily is sitting in an armchair, reading a book with a mug of black coffee.
The open window in the room began to produce annoying noise. Lily sprinted towards the window and closed it. As she closed the window, she noticed that the rain had started with a light drizzle.
She loves the rain, so she is mesmerized by it. As she silently watches the rain, her phone rings on the table. She rushes over, picks it up, and answers the call. "Mom, how are you doing?" she says, and then sits back in her armchair.
"I'm doing well but I always worry about you," her mom replied in a sad voice.
Her mom and dad want her to live with them, but she refuses every time. Her parents are popular among people, so every day once or twice, even a whole crowd of people comes to their house and she wants to read and write books alone.
"I know why you are worried about me, that's why I want to share some good news with you, Mom!" Lily said in a cheerful voice.
"Oh. So what is your good news, dear?" Her mom asked, curiosity piqued.
"So, Mom. Finally, I made a new friend and she lives with me!" Lily announced to her mom.
"Really! Are you telling me the truth? Is she a girl or a boy? Tell me, honey!" Her mom was excited.
"Of course, I am telling you the truth and she is a girl. She is so like me. We have the same preferences, hobbies, and nature. She is my only friend and I am her only friend!" Lily cheerfully said.
"Wow, finally, you found a person like you. I am so happy for you, dear!" Her mom said in delight. Her mom was overjoyed that she found a friend. Now all her worries have vanished.
"Yeah, Mom. I am happy too!" Lily said then suddenly a voice came from a room.
"Lily, can you come here?"
"Yes, just wait a second," Lily replied to the voice and said to her mom "Mom, I have to go now."
"Okay, if I come to your house to meet you and your friend then you will not mind. Am I right?" Her mom asked.
"Of course. I will not mind. You can come here whenever you want, Mom. Now I've got to leave, bye," Lily said in a hurry.
"Yeah, bye, dear," then her mom hung up the call.
Her mom was in her room, sitting on the bed. Her husband was not at home because he had gone to attend an important business meeting.
Even though people visit her many times, and her so-called friends, who can never be her real friends, visit her house, she still feels lonely sometimes.
But now she was very curious about her daughter's new friend ever since she found out about her. She wants to meet her daughter's friend, but she thinks it would be odd to visit her daughter's house now.
She looks out of the window and sees heavy rain outside. She gets out of bed and approaches the window. She gently touches the window panel and begins to recall her daughter's childhood.
"Lily, wait! Don't go outside!"
"Mom, just for two minutes. Please, Mommy, I beg you."
"Okay, fine."
Lily was around nine years old, dancing in the rain in the garden of their mansion. Her mom watched her from inside the mansion, smiling to see her happy daughter.
As she looked at Lily, she suddenly noticed a human-like silhouette near her daughter, peering from behind a tree. The figure didn't look entirely human because it was hovering in the air and peeking at her daughter.
Her heart sank, and she was filled with worry and questions.
"Am I seeing a ghost? But that can't be possible, right?"
Then she came out of her flashback.
"Thank goodness we got rid of that spirit. Now, my daughter can live peacefully." She said to herself.
Just then, her phone began to buzz from the bed. She rushed towards the phone and saw her daughter's call was flashing on the screen. She picked up the phone and answered the call.
"Hello, dear."
"Mom, you said you want to meet my friend. My friend wants to meet you tomorrow if you can come here." Lily said over the call.
Her mother's eyes brightened up, and she replied, "Sure, I can come tomorrow."
"Okay, then bye Mom."
"Bye, honey," her mom said, and hung up the call.
Next day,
Her mom's driver dropped her off before Lily's house. Lily's house was a small, cozy house in a quiet neighbourhood. It had a tidy garden and a cheerful red door.
When her mom arrived and rang the bell, she brought sweets as a gift for Lily's new friend. Lily opened the door quickly and welcomed her mom inside with a big smile.
As her mom walked in, she noticed something unusual - the house was unusually clean and tidy. Normally, it was messy with clothes scattered around, but today everything was in its place.
"Wow, Lily, your house looks so clean!" her mom remarked, sitting down on the couch.
"Thanks, she always inspires me to keep it tidy," Lily replied happily.
Curious to meet Lily's friend, her mom asked to see her. Lily hesitated but eventually led her to the bedroom. Inside, the room was dark except for sunlight shining on the dressing table.
But no one was in the room.
"Where's your friend, Lily?" her mom asked nervously, looking around.
"Mom, come here," Lily said quietly, walking towards the dressing table.
Her mom approached slowly and saw their reflections in the mirror. But it wasn't just their reflections - there was another figure that looked like Lily but with cuts and marks on her face.
"Long time no see," the strange reflection said in a chilling voice.
Her mom was shocked and confused. "Lily, what's going on?"
Lily, unaware of her mom's fear, said cheerfully, "Mom, meet my friend. She looks just like me. She was my friend when I was nine. Remember?"
Her mom's heart was pounding as if it would burst out of her chest. She couldn't process how this spirit had appeared again. Suddenly, something came to her mind.
Is the spirit going to pull Lily into the mirror and emerge from the mirror to live in Lily's place?
With trembling hands, her mom pleaded with the reflection, "Please, leave my daughter alone."
The eerie reflection smirked, "You look lonely. Wouldn't you like a friend like yourself?"
Before her mom could react, another reflection appeared in the mirror - a twisted version of herself, decayed and frightening.
AHHHHAAAHHHEEEAHH
Her mother let out a blood-curdling scream as she saw her creepy reflection. Then two creepy hands came out of the mirror and grabbed Lily and her mom's hands. They pulled them into the mirror.
Lily and her mom tried to escape, shouting and struggling. The mirror looked weird and shiny, twisting everything around them.
"Friend, what are you doing? You hurting us!" Lily cried out in disbelief but the spirits didn't reply.
Lily's mom grabbed the mirror's frame, yelling, "No! Let us go!"
But the spirit in the mirror laughed quietly. "You're ours now," it whispered, sounding cold and scary.
As Lily and her mom were pulled deeper into the mirror, everything around them turned dark. The world seemed to change and bend, mixing with the strange place inside the mirror. They were entering a place where reflections kept people trapped.
As the spirits succeeded in dragging into the mirror, the mirror closed behind them, trapping Lily and her mom in a strange, scary world.
They were trapped within the mirror, while their sinister reflections took their places in the real world.
