"Seriously?" I asked in both disbelief and frustration.
"How could you forget my keys of all things?" I added.

"I'm sorry okay. I'll drive back there right away and pick them up." Damon said making his way back into his car.

"So I'm just meant to wait outside my apartment for you to come back with my keys?" I asked incredulously.

"I thought you may not want to drive back there. You seem pissed enough." Damon replied.

"Just forget it. I'll sleep over at Cole's. Try bringing my keys to his place early tomorrow yeah?" I said.

"Yeah." Damon replied as he got into his car.

"Kim." He called out to me.
"I'm really sorry about this night. I've been a little distracted." Damon said.

"It's fine." I replied ordering an Uber.
"You should get going Damon. Goodnight." I added not looking up from my phone.

We had been having back and forth arguments like this for the past couple of weeks. Over both the smallest and biggest things. It was becoming exhausting.

"Hey Kim. You there?" Cole answered the call bringing me out of my thoughts.

"Uh yeah. Sorry. Is it fine if I crash at your place tonight?" I asked.

"Of course. You know you're always welcome." He answered. I could hear shuffling noises at the background.

"Okay then, I'll be there soon. Thank you." I said and hung up.

My Uber wasn't arriving for the next six minutes so I decided to take a seat at the nearby bench while waiting.

It was a cool and breezy night. The wind was blowing my hair in all directions.

A couple walked past me and I looked at them in awe. They were cute and seemed happy. The girl was laughing at something her partner said.
It reminded me so much of myself and Damon. Everything was going fine during summer break until few weeks to college resumption, countless arguments here and there.
We weren't official yet and honestly, I was tired of this journey in circles. I once brought up the topic of taking a step further in our relationship and Damon changed the topic almost immediately. There was something off about him.

I was still trailing the cute couple with my eyes when I suddenly had this feeling like I was being watched.

I looked around but there was no one in sight.

Weird.

Before I could even overthink it, a car parked in-front of me and my phone beeped signaling that my Uber has arrived. I checked the plate numbers just to be certain before getting into the car.

As the car began moving, I turned back one last time, just to clear my doubts. The road was empty and everything within my peripheral view seemed normal.

"Don't overthink Kim. It's been over for a while now." I muttered to myself.

******************************************

"So are you going to talk about what happened or should I just pretend like you just randomly decided to ring me up this late for a sleepover." Cole said passing me the ice-cream tub.

"Hey, you are good company and I've slept-over here a few times. The randomness this night is just a coincidence." I said scooping some ice-cream.

"Damon told me about your date yesterday Kim. And you sounded pissed when you called me." He said matter-of-factly.

"Must we really do this?" I asked.

"Yes." Cole said leaving no room for argument.

"Since you asked so nicely, here goes nothing." I said and adjusted my sitting position so I was facing Cole squarely.

******************************************

"That's so unlike him to be distracted." Cole said thoughtfully.

I told him everything that happened from Damon's absentmindedness during a date he suggested and how he left my apartment keys behind.

"At this point, I don't even expect much from him anymore." I said with a shrug.

"Both of you need to have a serious conversation and sort your shit out." Cole said.
"Something is probably bugging him." He added.

"If he has a problem, he should either discuss and let us help it or keep it to himself but stop acting weird." I said angrily.

"Look who's talking. Like it was easy for you tell us about the whole Sylvester drama." Cole said giving me an accusing look.

That was a very hard jab. And I guess my facial expression gave out how hard I felt it.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it that way." Cole said moving closer to hold my hand.

"Don't." I said pulling away from him.
"You meant every word and yeah maybe you're right." I added going towards the spare room.

I wasn't having this conversation, not when I was still pissed with Damon.

"I'm sorry Kim." I heard Cole say just as I got to the spare room.

"Goodnight." I said loud enough for him to hear.

I didn't wait for a response before shutting the door.

Today was a long day and I definitely need a good night's rest before my class the next day.
