Kiss Me 🙈
"Di, Atul is a good guy", Piyush told her sister, briefing about the new prospective groom, her family had found for Neha.
It was seven in the evening after a hectic Thursday and Neha had skipped the dinner. Well! Her abdomen was paining and period cramps were unbearable. It was the second day of menstruation and she was glad that weekend was coming soon.
With a hot water bag under her stomach, she was lying on her belly, biting her lips every now and then, while her brother was telling about Atul Bansal, a chartered accountant working in Delhi.
"Piyush, I am not interested", Neha mumbled, suppressing her painful groans, embarrassed to even say that she was having cramps while Piyush continued to sing praises of Atul until Sheetal asked, "Di, but why not?"
"I like someone", finally Neha confessed and she chuckled when Piyush hooted and Sheetal awed from the other end.
"We are in Mission Reject Atul together", Sheetal cackled while Piyush enquired the whereabouts of the guy like a protective brother.
With crimson hues on her rosy cheeks, Neha narrated her meeting with Arjun and her proposal hiding the romantic details obviously.
"Since he has been in the army, I approve of him. Just take care of yourself and I am looking forward to meet your Arjun soon." Piyush assured her sister and she was over the moon. A sudden gush of blood passed through her uterus and she could not control her whimper as the cramp increased.
Piyush and Sheetal talked for a while when Sheetal was called by Anju to prepare the dinner and it was then, Neha heard Piyush sighing before ending the conversation. Neha decided to make a quick dinner for her and then, pop up a painkiller in her mouth.
The pain was getting intolerable and it was never good to miss the meals. This is why, she hated the five days of the month when Aunt Flow greeted her.
She was fixing the salad for herself when her phone rang and her mood fell, since it was her mother calling her. Nevertheless, she greeted her mother who retorted scornfully, "I want you to meet Atul and say a 'yes'".
For obvious reasons, she could not tell her mother about Arjun so she just hummed. "And yes, we have not told about your called off engagement so behave before him", her mother ordered and she simply, hummed again.
"His family is well-cultured just like us. He stays in Delhi and he doesn't even have problem with you having a transferrable job. He is just like someone you want so, behave or else your father will choose the groom for you, yourself." Her mother threatened her and she nodded.
"Atul might be good but he cannot replace Arjun". Her heart chanted and she simply, replied to her mother, "I will meet him and tell you".
"Don't you dare reject him or else I and your father will come to Delhi and see, what are you doing. Perhaps, Rahul was right!" Her mother babbled judging her character reminding her of all the traumatic memories.
"Why can't Ma simply, trust me, love me? What sins did I do to get parents like Ma and Papa?" She asked herself as tears brimmed in her eyes while her mother continued to talk how irrationally she had behaved to reject Rahul who was just perfect for her despite, knowing Rahul was anything but perfect!
"I wish you were not born, Neha. You are such a disgrace. Just accept Atul's proposal and let us get rid of you." Her mother said, while sipping her morning tea, irritated that Neha seemed to be disinterested in the conversation, hurting the poor girl even more.
Neha disconnected the call and switched off her mobile, throwing it somewhere in the couch. She could not help but compare Arjun's family with hers and feel disgusted at her own parents. Anxiety seeped in and she began sweating. All she needed was a puff of cigarette.
Standing in her balcony, she puffed the expensive Marlboro Red, without giving a damn about the abdominal cramps, trying hard to keep herself calm when she realized that she could speak to Arjun to feel better.
Arjun had been eating mutton biryani he had cooked for himself when his phone rang. He had fed Bruno and his pet dog had called it a night! A smile crept on his lips to see Neha was calling him, yes, his own sweet Sneha, the girl he loved from the bottom of his heart.
"Hey, what's up?" He asked gobbling the morsel of delicious rice mixed with a piece of succulent mutton.
"My parents are asking me to meet Atul, some CA", she said, standing in the balcony.
"And you cannot deny, right?" Arjun asked nonchalantly, still engrossed in his meal.
"They will never understand", Neha mumbled, pissed off, at the lack of attention she was getting.
"See, in this case, I will suggest that meet Atul and tell him that you cannot take the things further", Arjun spoke, still not fathoming her concerns. He was not at fault, though!
"Arjun", Neha whined, seeking some emotional intimacy which he failed to give at the moment.
"What's wrong, dear?" He asked, carrying his plate in the kitchen after savouring the delicious meal.
It was then, Neha felt helpless. Tongue-tied, she did not know how to voice her reasons of feeling sad.
Obviously, she could not tell him about the insensitive words of her mother. As Anju's profanities rang in her ears, a sob escaped her mouth.
Arjun had been cleaning the dishes when he heard her sobbing. "What's wrong, Sneha?" He asked again.
"Nothing", Neha mumbled, feeling stupid. Even before, Arjun could say anything, Neha disconnected the call after mumbling a soft 'good night' but the night was not good anymore!
Exactly fifteen minutes, Arjun was outside Neha's apartment, regretting for acting nonchalant over the phone when his girl needed him.
Neha had been standing in the balcony, smoking the fourth cigarette, fighting the tears, partly due to her mother and partly due to the abdominal cramps, when she heard the doorbell.
"Who is it?" She asked, alerted, mentally deciding to reprimand the watchman for not calling her beforehand. It was already past nine and she was not expecting anyone.
"It's me, Arjun", he responded and Neha was surprised.
Disposing the cigarette, she opened the door. Perplexed, she asked, "What happened?"
"What's wrong with you?" He asked, entering inside. Neha's apartment was his second home these days. His mornings never began with picking Neha for the morning walk outside her housing society. His working days were never complete without the strongly brewed evening tea made by Neha.
"Nothing", she replied when he walked closer to her, caressing her tear-stained face with his rough thumb, inhaling her breath in the process.
"Something is off, Neha. You are reeking of cigarettes and you smoke when you are worried. What's wrong?" He asked pestering her, holding her shoulders gently, standing so close to her that his shoes touched her slippers.
Closing her eyes to prevent the treacherous tears from falling, she gasped. If Arjun would not have held her, she would have walked away.
"When will you let me in, Sneha", he whispered helplessly. He was tired of her gloomy face once in a week, especially after a conversation with her parents. He did not know what was wrong with her. All he wanted was her to be happy.
She simply, hugged him tightly, searching mental peace in his heartbeats while he wrapped his arms around her. "Why did you smoke?", he asked, raking his fingers in her luscious locks.
"Because I am feeling low", she whispered, embarrassed to behave like a crying baby.
Kissing her hair lightly, he husked, "I had told you to not smoke when you feel low". "It's not good for your health", he schooled.
"Kiss me", she mumbled, surprising him. "What?" He asked in amusement.
"I will not smoke, I promise, provided, you will kiss me every time, I will feel low", she rasped, hugging him tightly while he chuckled. In the span of a month of their blooming relationship, he had kissed her a thousand of times, relishing the strawberry scent of her luscious lips, but it was for the first time, she had demanded something from him.
"I will be happy to help", he murmured lovingly while she cursed herself for acting so desperate. Perhaps, her feminine hormones were bringing the best out of her.
Her stomach grumbled, embarrassing her even more while he simply, chuckled. "Why didn't you eat?" He asked while she kept on hugging him like a koala bear, feeling shy to face him.
Upon realizing her dilemma, he slipped his rough palms under her T-shirt, catching her off-guard. She immediately left him, whining his name, while he walked inside the kitchen saying, "I will first feed you and then I will kiss you", laughing at her innocence while she stood like a cute, blushing mess.
Arjun frowned looking at the salad plated in a bowl. "So, she kept on smoking and did not even eat", he mumbled to himself while Neha followed him.
"I was about to eat", she murmured.
"I know", he scowled. "I will make some noodles. This won't be sufficient." He mumbled, searching the packet of instant noodles in the kitchen cabinet.
"This will be fine", she whispered, picking up the bowl from the kitchen counter. He followed her outside the kitchen and sat at the dining table, watching her eat the bland veggies as if she was eating some delicious meal.
"You love salads", he commented and she nodded, smiling, reminiscing the last dinner she had with him on Valentine's day.
"I am always with you", he assured her pleading her to keep smiling while she loved the emotional intimacy they shared. When Arjun was sure that her mood had lightened up, he offered, "I will leave".
"Stay", she pleaded. No words were spoken when he simply, picked her up in his arms and carried her to her bedroom. Her rosy cheeks adored the crimson hue while she wrapped her arms around his neck, not wanting him to leave her ever. She had become emotionally dependent on Arjun and she could not even imagine a life without him.
Tucking her in the bed, he covered her with a blanket, kissing on her forehead, he whispered, "Good night". He wanted to stay beside Neha but not today. He knew it would be difficult for him to control himself around her and he did not want to take advantage of her vulnerability.
"Stay, please", she pleaded. This was Arjun's undoing. Making sure the main door of her apartment was well-bolted, he slipped inside the covers beside her, making her heart flutter. Under the covers, he felt the hot water bag, which had cooled down by now.
"Are you okay?" He asked, again, keeping the bag on the bedside stool. She turned her face towards him and nodded meekly. Scooting closer to her, he wrapped her soft body in his masculine arms and asked, "What is the hot water bag doing here?"
"My stomach was paining", she mumbled, stuttering.
"That time of month?" He asked nonchalantly wondering what was her need to stutter when talking about normal bodily functions. He too had a sister and he knew, periods were not a crime that is meant to be hidden.
She pushed him away, embarrassed how openly he was talking about her menstrual cycle while her brain taunted her, "You can sleep with him on the same bed and kiss him but not answer a simply, question."
Arjun simply, chuckled, slipping his hand on her clothed abdomen. His fingers massaged her abdomen, embarrassing her even more.
"It's not needed", she managed to mumble, feeling a gush of blood down there. His massage felt too intimate to her, not just physically but emotionally too because no one had helped her relieve her cramps except her sister.
"Close your eyes and sleep", he ordered while his hands continued to work. He had read about abdominal massages during periods to reduce cramps in women and he was simply, trying to help her. With a pleasant smile on her lips, she drifted off to sleep. A bad evening had surely turned into a blissful night!
