Chapter 40 - Right Where It All Started
Guys, be prepared for emotion and flashbacks - a lot of them! This was so sad to write 😭 I hope you guys love it as much as I do...
Here it is ...the last chapter ❤️
~ Adrian's POV ~
We were silent the whole way home, none of us had the energy to say a word. I silently followed Angelo and Kaito with Matteo trailing slowly behind me towards the door of Jordan and I's hotel suite.
"Kaito wait." His steps faltered before he eventually stopped but didn't turn around to face me. "I'm sorry you had to do that...but thank you." I didn't really know what else to say to the man who just killed his fiancée for me, even though she cheated on him, he still loved her. "I owe you."
I patted Kaito's shoulder and made my way past him into the suite deciding to give him a few minutes alone before coming inside. I grabbed Angelo's arm by the door before we went inside properly to see Jordan and Carlotta.
"Why were you on your phone at Dante's? You said I should kill him, I don't understand what happened."
"I tapped his phone while you guys spent all that time arguing with the fool. He was bluffing, he never had anyone ready to kill Jordan."
I didn't say anything else to Angelo and instead just decided enough was enough with Dante now. He's dead, it's over. I've got more important things to worry about.
As soon as my eyes locked onto Jordan's she instantly shot up from her place on the couch and ran into my arms, wrapping them tightly around my torso. "I was so worried, are you okay? I'm sorry for annoying you earlier."
I didn't wrap my arms around her, the emptiness inside me just seemed to increase when I saw Carlotta - now my only sister. From the look on our faces she knew something was wrong. "What happened Adrian?" The tone of her voice was tentative like she didn't really want to hear the answer to her question.
"Mia's dead." Matteo's cold, blunt tone cut through the tension in the air as he made his way over to the bottles of alcohol across the room. He took a swig directly from a bottle of vodka before dropping down on the couch.
"You killed her?" Carlotta's eyes were full of tears and rage as she glared at me. I gently pushed Jordan away from me before stepping closer to her but she spoke again before I could tell her what happened. "She's our sister! It doesn't matter what she did, you didn't have to kill her...she's dead." Carlotta slowly stood to her feet as the cold hard truth finally hit her. " I hate you Adrian!" Suddenly she launched herself at me but Angelo was thankfully there to grab her before she charged straight at me. "Kaito killed her! She was about to shoot Adrian."
Carlotta stilled in his arms and turned towards him, the tears silently falling down her cheeks. "If it wasn't for Kaito, Adrian would be dead - because of her. He didn't want to do it, he's in pieces now, he did it for us."
My attention was taken away from Carlotta and Angelo when Jordan let out a small cry. "You almost died?" I couldn't find it in myself to comfort her at that moment, I just stared straight back at her while tears rolled down her cheeks.
The rest of the evening went by silently. Kaito disappeared when we got to the hotel, he never came inside with us. Maybe one day when he's over all of this, we'll see him again. Maybe next time things will end differently.
Whoever was hungry ordered room service, if they could stomach it, while we all just sat around in dead silence, apart from Leo, nobody hardly said a word. I suppose that's what happens when your youngest sibling is killed in front of you.
~ Jordan's POV ~
"Adrian?" I tentatively stepped towards him and placed a hand on his arm. "Are you okay?" Instead he scoffed and pulled his arm away from me like my touch burned him.
"Don't touch me Jordan. This is all your fault." I frowned at Adrian and took a step away from him at his sudden outburst. "How?" Adrian took a step towards me, his eyes burning with anger while he glared at me. I could see the walls around him going straight back up, the same ones that were up at the start of our marriage.
"I could have shot the bastard and left, but instead I stayed for you. I was willing to give up everything for you. My family, my children, the mafia. Everything." I think he could tell I wasn't as confused as I should have been, Angelo filled me in properly on everything that was said while he was with Dante. But the fact that I seemed to know what happened just made him even angrier.
"I should have said no. I should have let them kill you, maybe my sister would still be alive. She wouldn't be dead, because of you." I shook my head trying not to let his words get to me, I knew it was the grief talking. I took another step away from him to put some distance between us but he just came towards me again.
"I hate you Jordan. I hate what you've made me become. I was a ruthless killer before I met you."
The look in his eyes was becoming darker and darker as he stepped towards me again this time closing the distance between us completely. Our chests were touching while he glared at me, giving into the anger and darkness that was threatening to consume him.
"I wish I never met you, I wish all of this never happened. I hate you. I should have killed you that day I met you, I would have saved everyone so much pain and anger. My parents never would have left me, Mia wouldn't have betrayed me. I never would have had to deal with Dante. I would have been everything I've ever wanted to be, ruthless, powerful and cold." I let Adrian finish his rant, the words were cutting deeper and deeper into my heart. Some of it was true, things I always refused to believe were true. Once he was out of breath I finally rose an eyebrow at him. "Are you done?"
He stared straight back at me, willing my cool calm exterior to break but it didn't. Slowly slowly his rage and anger faded to be replaced with the most broken expression I've ever seen on his face before he slowly nodded. I wrapped my arms around him causing him to instinctively wrap his around me.
Adrian buried his face in my shoulder, his body shaking with sobs while I held him in my arms. "I can't believe she's dead." I didn't say a word for however long we stayed like that. I know I must look crazy for staying with him after he said all of that shit to me, but the truth is he would have done the same for me. I know Adrian and I are past that stage in our relationship, now we offer each other the comfort we need. Whether that's through hugs or by letting the other rant and rave about whatever is on their mind. I did it to Adrian, saying things I will never ever forgive myself for, but of course I would forgive him for what he said to me. He's the love of my life after all.
It's us against everyone now. Our little family against the big bad world.

One week later
It took a whole week for everyone to start acting a little bit normal. We were still in London too, I didn't want to ask Adrian to go back yet, I was worried he'd either shout like he did the day Mia died or he'd get triggered from being at home. I wanted him to be ready to go home in his own time. I over think things a lot.
"Baby come here." Adrian quietly called me over to where he was slouched on the couch. I sat next to him and took his hand in mine. "What's up?" He kissed the back of my hand. "We're going out later, be ready for 7."
"Are you sure it's a good idea..?" Adrian let out a dry chuckle and nodded. "I need to get out of this hotel room, and it's important." I nodded and kissed his cheek. "Okay."
"Make sure you look nice." I rose an eyebrow at Adrian. "What's that supposed to mean?"
He sent me a small teasing smirk and wrapped his arms around my waist, nuzzling his face in my shoulder. "Lets not lie, sometimes you look like crap."
And they say romance is dead.
A few hours later I'd finally managed to get Leo to go to sleep so that Matteo would stop complaining. He was willing to babysit him but he didn't want the pressure of having to get him to sleep. Last time we left Matteo to look after Leo we came home at midnight to find them both awake watching some children's movie. Still to this day I don't know how Matteo managed to get Leo to stay awake past 9pm, it had never happened before and it's never happened since.
"Where are we going Adrian?" My husband glanced up from his phone from his place next to me in the back of a Maserati taking us to our destination. "Wait and see tesoro." I rolled my eyes causing Adrian to narrow his in my direction but he didn't say anything about it.
I began to become more and more familiar with our surroundings as we got closer to where we were going but it was so dark I really couldn't make anything out. Suddenly the car stopped and Adrian told to me to wait where I was while he came around and opened the door for me.
"Close your eyes tesoro." Adrian sent me a 'just do it and don't argue with me' look when I began to protest and instead I begrudgingly gave in. I closed my eyes and let Adrian guide me inside, instantly the scent of coffee hit me as we stepped inside.
I heard Adrian shuffle around behind me before he told me to open my eyes. I slowly opened my eyes and let them adjust to the dimly lit room. Within seconds tears welled up in my eyes while I scanned the familiar room where I had spent so many hours studying. I turned around to face Adrian but instead he was kneeling in front of me.
"Before I say anything else to you, I need to say sorry for everything I said to you last week Jordan. You didn't deserve any of that and none of it was true. I don't know what I would do if I lost you, my world would be cold, dark and empty." He gently took my hand in his while I stared at him, completely overwhelmed by the sudden emotions.
"The day I met you, I knew I wanted you. I know you asked me why and I never really gave you an answer apart from the fact you're so beautiful." A small smile tugged at my lips at the memory of Adrian completely shutting down my question and avoiding the answer, most of the time anyway.
Flashback
"Why do you want me Adrian? There's girls that would fall at your feet and beg you to marry them, who are a lot prettier than me, and that actually know Italian. I don't want to marry you and I don't want to move to Italy." He sighed and stood up pacing around the living room.
"I want you. That's why. So go upstairs and pack your stuff Jordan. You're coming with me today."
"When I first laid eyes on you I knew you were the most beautiful girl I'd ever met. But not just on the outside, on the inside too. You had this fire about you, this honesty. Straight away you came up with those annoying sarcastic comments which I absolutely hate and adore at the same time."
Flashback
"What do I do now?" He tilted his head to the side staring directly at me. "You might want to get rid of that body before the police get here." He lifted his gun and pointed it below my chin. "Any more smart comments?" I nodded. "Just one, you should rethink having private meetings in public places if you don't want people to hear them."
A small chuckle left my lips at the thought of all the times I'd pissed Adrian off with my uncontrollable mouth.
Flashback
Adrian and I walked into the restaurant where we were meeting his friend Lorenzo and his wife Sara. "Did he force his wife to marry him aswell?" Adrian's grip on my hand tightened and I heard him mumble something to himself .
"Shut your mouth, keep your stupid comments to yourself."
"Your mouth definitely got us into a lot of trouble over the past couple of years too."
Flashback
"You're clearly not a real man if you need to use violence to make a woman submit to you." Anger blazed in Dante's eyes and before anyone saw it coming, his palm swung out connecting with my cheek. Enraged, Adrian immediately pulled out his gun aiming it at Dante.
"But those times made us what we are today Jordan. I knew from that moment you would be able to take care of yourself around me, no matter what my life threw at you, you could handle it. That's why I chose you. I knew it was you, and it was the best decision I've ever made. Of course we had our ups and downs along the way..."
Flashback
"Seriously why can't you just wear proper clothes?" I sighed and turned to him as he started the car. "I'm sorry I'm not dressed head to toe in Versace, but that's really not my style." I glanced at his black t-shirt and grey jeans. "Plus these are proper clothes, I'm just not filthy rich like some people." He rolled his eyes and glanced over at me as he drove.
"It's not Versace. It's Armani."
Flashback
"Just put it down. It won't hurt." I bit my lip and shook my head. "No. I'm scared, you win, now take me back to the car." The sea breeze picked up around me causing my long hair to blow in the wind. Adrian took my free hand and held it tightly. "Just do it Jordan, trust me it won't hurt. I'm here, if it hurts I'll pick you up okay?" I looked into his sincere brown eyes and reluctantly put my foot down on the sand.
I closed my eyes waiting for the sharp pain to shoot up through my ankle, but nothing happened. I slowly opened my eyes to see Adrian smiling down at me. "See, you're fine." I held onto his hand giving him my own wide smile.
"You can say thank you now Jordan." I rolled my eyes at his arrogance but thanked him anyway. "Thank you." Neither of us spoke after this and we both stared at each other, only the sound of the waves crashing against the shore could be heard.
"I'm so proud to be able to call you my wife and the mother of my two children Jordan. I knows it's been hard for you, I've been a complete nightmare, I know that. But I love you and I was selfish. I could never let you go even though I knew at points along the way all I was going to do to you was damage. I'm sorry for dragging you into my life, I just hope one day you can forgive me for how it all started, right here in this damn coffee shop, right where it all started."
A small smile graced my lips while Adrian held tightly onto my hands, his eyes slowly beginning to fill with tears.
"I screwed up so many times Jordan. In ways I could never imagine happening again. I never thought I could love someone as much as I love you, I want to be there for you whenever you need me. To help you raise Leo and our next baby..."
Adrian's hand went to my small baby bump and a smile tugged at his lips. "...and any others we have in the future. I want to be with your in darkest times and be the cause of your brightest times - the times where you're happy all because of me. I want to be your everything, I don't care about anything else but making you happy. I love you Jordan."
Adrian slowly stood to his feet and placed his hands on my cheeks. "There's so much more I could say to you, but we'd be here forever." I chuckled slightly but this just resulted in more tears flowing down my cheeks.
"Adrian..." Adrian cut me off by placing his lips on mine. The kiss held all the love, care and trust we had for each other. It was everything. "I love you too, and of course I forgive you, for everything baby." I kissed him one more time before gently using my thumbs to wipe away the stray tears on his cheeks before wrapping arms around him. Adrian held me in his arms for the next few minutes while we both enjoyed each other's company and savoured the moment.
"That's why you brought me here then?" Adrian sent me a cheeky smile and kissed my forehead before guided me over to a table where a candle was lit and an English afternoon tea selection was laid out.
"Partly that, and I couldn't leave London without coming here. You said to me that day at the graveyard that I never got to know you before we got married. So here we are, this time we'll do it properly. Our first date." I couldn't hold back the laugh that escaped my lips at his cute gesture.
"You're so cute Adrian." Adrian narrowed his eyes while taking a seat opposite me after helping me to sit down. "Don't call me cute."
"This food isn't from here Adrian." He scoffed as he poured me some tea from the pot. "Of course not, I had the coffee from here that day I was here. It's awful. I got this from some posh bakery, it's the best I could find in this damn country." I let out a loud laugh at this causing Adrian to flash me his signature smile.
"Like I said, you're the best thing that's come from this country. I meant that." A rolled my eyes and looked away from Adrian when a blush rose on my cheeks. "I'm glad to see I still have the same effect on you tesoro."
"Shut up Adrian. Anyway, since this is our 'first date', that means, finally you have to answer all my questions." Adrian quickly shook his head and took a sip of his tea.
"No." I couldn't hold back the smile when he said this, I knew that was going to be his answer. One thing about my husband was that he would never give me a chance to ask him questions. Ever.
"But you said-"
"Jordan I know you've never really been on a 'date' with me, but let me just tell you how this works. We sit here quietly and drink this crappy tea until you're ready to leave then we go home." I knew he was joking from the amusement in his eyes and his teasing tone, but I also knew, he was dead serious at the same time. Nothing ever really changes with him.
"I love you Adrian." He sent me a cheeky smile again before leaning over and pressing his lips to mine.
"I love you too tesoro."
Nothing between may have been normal or started in a normal way, but I knew Adrian was the most important person in my life. The father of my children, my husband and my best friend. And I loved him with all my heart.
He was the best thing that ever happened to me.
