Chapter 38 - I'm Tired Now
~ Jordan's POV ~
I'm was going out of my mind waiting for the guys to get back to the hotel room. After I'd taken my shower they'd all disappeared leaving me with Leo and a note from Adrian saying he'll be back in a few hours and to order room service. I had a feeling they were doing something big, something they didn't want me to know about. Adrian would have told me otherwise, it's not like him to just leave like that.
A few hours later I managed to get Leo to fall asleep, he's become more fussy at night when Adrian isn't around - it's also becoming more apparent he's a daddy's boy. I'm not sure how to feel about that.
It took me a while to fall asleep too, I tried to call Adrian a few times but he didn't answer which just added to my worry. I tried to keep telling myself that he's always done this and any minute he'll come back. But that didn't stop me from worrying, it never does.
I felt the bed dip next to me and two arms snake round my waist bringing me out of my sleep and causing me to tense up instantly.
"Rilassati amore mio, sono solo io." (Relax my love, it's just me.)
Adrian placed a kiss on my cheek and tightened his grip around my waist pulling me back against him.
"What time is it?" My voice came out thick with sleep followed by a yawn. "4:30am. Go back to sleep tesoro." How could he possibly think he could stroll back at 4:30 and expect me to just go back to sleep. I'm clearly not that type of person.
I sat up slightly and turned around to face Adrian who let out an annoyed sigh knowing exactly what was coming. "Jordan.."
"Where the hell did you go Adrian? I've been worried out of my mind waiting for you." He shook his head and sat up properly, he reached over and turned the lamp on next to the bed and leaned against the headboard. This gave me the first chance to look at him properly. He had a slight bruise under his eye and on his jaw and a small cut above his eyebrow. My eyes scanned over his bare torso landing on a few other cuts and bruises, especially on his arms.
"Jordan please, I'm okay, I've told you plenty of times not to worry when I go out. I'll answer any of your-"
"You telling me not to worry doesn't do anything Adrian." He rolled his eyes and nodded before taking my hand and kissing the back of it. "Okay, sorry."
"Where were you?" I pulled my hand out of his grip and rose an eyebrow waiting for him to respond which eventually he did since it was obvious I wasn't backing down. "We went to kill Dante. As you can tell by my face, it didn't exactly go to plan."
"Is everyone okay? No one got hurt did they?" He quickly shook his head and took my hand once again sensing the panic in my voice. "Of course not, everyone from our side is fine baby. Nothing worse than what I've got."
"And Dante..?" Adrian let out a sigh and shook his head before looking away from me. "I don't know. Our plan was to blow up the Portuguese cartel base where he's been staying here but-"
"Wait, he's been in London?" Adrian nodded but tightened his grip on my hand before I could pull it away from him. He knows me too well.
"I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to worry, I was never going to let anything happen to you or Leo. I just wanted you to concentrate on your dad, you didn't need this on top of it. Anyway, we tried to blow up the building but somehow something went wrong. He must have found out. All hell broke loose and we weren't sure if we actually got him, there's a chance he could have escaped. I need to find out how he knew, the plan was fool proof."
"He's going to come for us Adrian...what have you done? He's never going to leave us alone now until we're all dead! You should have left him alone Adrian." Adrian quickly sat up properly and pulled me into his chest all though I tried to fight him, he was way too strong for me.
"Shh tesoro, no. Nothing is going to happen I promise. I couldn't let him get away with what he did to your dad but nothing will ever happen baby." I wrapped my arms around his waist and rested my head against his chest. We stayed like that for a few moments, both of us just beyond exhausted with life in general.
"When will we get to just be happy Adrian? I'm tired now." He ran a hand through my hair and placed a kiss on my head. "Soon tesoro. Soon."

As soon as I heard her loud voice echoing throughout the suite I rolled off the bed and ran towards the front door. I wrapped my arms tightly Carlotta's perfect figure savouring the comfort her hug gave me. "Jordan.." I gave her a small smile and shook my head indicating that I didn't want her to be all sympathetic. I get that from Angelo and Matteo too much.
I knew someone had already told her about my dad and then about the news of my grandad, but I just couldn't deal with anymore sympathy. Adrian's so good at that, although I know he feels bad for me he doesn't go over the top. He knows when to give me space and not treat me like I'm fragile but he also knows when I just need a hug.
We've been in London for almost a week with no changes to my dads health, my family still refuse to utter a word to me and Adrian isn't any closer to figuring out what actually happened with Dante. For all we know he could be dead or sipping a piña colada on a beach in Thailand.
I gave Carlotta one last hug before letting her go to give everyone else a hug, they were all sitting on the couches watching us. I must admit I was pretty fast in getting out of bed, they probably all expected me to carry on napping. Ever since I started getting symptoms for my second pregnancy it's been essential that I have an afternoon nap or I just feel like absolute hell during the evening.
I sat next to Adrian who had Leo fast asleep in his arms. I promise we're not a lazy family usually, we just have nothing to do apart from going to the hospital or sitting around in the suite all day. None of us actually feel like going out, especially me; going around London would just bring back too many memories. I couldn't handle that in my current state.
We were busy catching up on all things Carlotta when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. "Who is it?" I glanced over at Adrian who was eagerly watching me, the boredom from listening to Carlotta clearly evident on his face. "My brother..." He rose an eyebrow and gestured for me to read the text.
"He asked me to go over to the house." I glanced over at Adrian to see what his reaction would be. I was expecting him to say no, that it would be an obvious target for Dante but instead he just nodded. "If you're sure about going then let's go. It's up to you Jordan."
"I want to go." Within half an hour we were all dressed and on the way to my old house. Adrian insisted that I wasn't allowed to go alone without enough protection so Matteo is coming with us, Carlotta is also coming because she refused to let us leave unless she was invited. That woman lives to argue and nothing was keeping her away from my family drama.
I gripped Adrian's hand tightly while we waited for someone to come and open the front door for us. Finally after what seemed like ages Grace opened the front door. Her eyes first landed on Adrian before drifting over to me. Her face remained impassive like it did when I first saw her at the hospital almost a week ago. She moved aside to let us go inside, I followed behind Adrian who was still holding on tightly to my hand. Matteo followed behind us with Carlotta behind him muttering words to herself in Italian.
"Questo posto porta indietro i ricordi." (This place brings back memories.) Adrian flashed me a small grin when we took a seat on the old grey couch in the my old living room waiting for the rest of my family to appear. I had to suppress the smile that his words brought to my lips, I never thought I would smile about the day Adrian came to my house and took me with him all those years ago, but here I am once again in the same room with him, holding his hand so tightly like he's the only thing keeping me alive.
Flashback
"Why are you here Adrian?" He chuckled and looked around the room admiring it. "You know why I'm here tesoro." His thick Italian accent lingered in the air before I spoke. "My name is Jordan." He laughed again before shaking his head. "I know. Tesoro means sweetheart." I blushed a little and looked away from him trying to hide my embarrassment.
I glanced over at my husband who was staring down at our intertwined hands absentmindedly as the memories from that day came flooding back to me.
Flashback
We went into my room and he sat on my bed whilst I pulled out some suitcases and began to fill them whilst speaking all my thoughts out loud to Adrian.
"I don't know Italian."
"I'll have someone teach you."
"I want to work as a teacher."
"No."
"My family are coming to the wedding."
"No."
"I don't want to share a room with you."
"You don't have a choice."
"You're a jerk."
"Do you want a slap?"
A small chuckle escaped my lips catching Adrian's attention before I leaned over and kissed his cheek.
"I love you Adrian." His fingers played with my wedding ring while he glanced up at me through his long lashes. "I love you too tesoro."
"You guys are freaking disgusting." We both turned towards Matteo who was standing next to the fire place with a disgusted look on his face. "Oh please Matteo, they're cute, you're just jealous because every woman is repulsed by you."
"You ended up with Angelo, you didn't exactly strike gold there Carlotta."
"Who said you could bring them?" Riley's ice cold voice cut off the playful conversation the two were having and instead filled the room with tension. I turned towards the door where my brother, sister and mother were standing. It had been such a long time since we were all in this house together, I just never thought the next time would be under circumstances like this.
"She wasn't coming alone, you've got to be crazy if you think I would let my pregnant wife come here without us."
"No one freaking asked you, I was talking to her." Riley's eyes moved from Adrian back to me and the same familiar look of disgust took over his features. "I don't give a damn if you're her brother, talk to me like that again and-"
"Adrian! That's enough." I ignored Riley's scoff and turned towards Adrian sending him a murderous glare reminding him that my family didn't know he was in the mafia. If he had carried on with that threat who knows what could have happened. I kept the truth away from them for a reason, if Adrian told them it would put them in danger. I also didn't want him to threaten them; no matter how much they may hate me I still love them.
"Riley what did you want? You asked me to come here." He rolled his eyes and sent Adrian one more glare before sitting across from me on the couch opposite Adrian and I. I could see my mother and Grace staring at the four of us from their place by the door but thankfully they hadn't opened their mouths yet; I don't know how I would react if they did.
"Dad is awake." Riley kept his cold eyes on me while I stared back at him in complete shock. "He's awake? When? Why didn't you tell me earlier?" I quickly jumped to my feet causing Adrian to stand too. "Because you're not going to see him Jordan."
"That's not your decision to make!" Riley nodded and stood to his feet too, keeping his cold and hard exterior in tact. "Actually it is Jordan. Because I know exactly who you're married to. I know everything; about you, him, Dante.."
The room was eerily silent while we all stood their absorbing the information. They already knew. Somehow they found out about Adrian, everything I'd been keeping from them all this time was no longer a secret. The attempts I made to keep them in the dark and keep them safe were meaningless now. As long as they knew the truth they were in danger. That saying people say - 'the less you know the better' is the most accurate statement ever. The worst part was that they found out about Dante which meant they knew...
"It's your fault dad was shot." I quickly shook my head feeling that panic rise up inside me again. If they thought that about me they would never ever forgive me, there would be no going back. "Riley...I.." My brother rose an eyebrow at me waiting for me to speak, his expression was almost mocking. He knew I had nothing to say, there was no way I could manipulate the truth. There was no way I could change what really happened, it was my fault.
"Jordan, if I ever see you again, I will personally call him and tell him exactly where you are."
"That's impossible, he's most likely dead." This time Riley's mocking tone was directed at Matteo. "No, I can assure you he is not dead. The bastard was here."
"Wait, he was here? When?" Adrian's voice was deep and cold just like it was the first time I met him, he was retreating back into his mafia business mode now that Dante's name had been mentioned. It was no longer about me, it was about all of us. If what Riley said was true, that means he knows we tried to kill him and he's coming for us.
When Riley sent Adrian a testing smirk Matteo suddenly charged forward grabbing my younger brother by his collar. "This is no time for your games!"
"Matteo!" Both Adrian and Carlotta tried their best to get Matteo to let go but it wasn't working. "You may not care about your sister anymore but we do. We also care about the children involved in this." Finally he let go and stepped back to his original place fixing his collar and running a hand through his hair nonchalantly. "I won't ask you again."
Riley held Matteo's stare before glancing over at me. I can't lie and say it didn't hurt to hear someone say so bluntly that Riley didn't care about me anymore. We were so close before all of this. His eyes moved down to my small but obvious baby bump before moving back to over to Matteo.
"Fine. He came this morning. He had some Italian blonde with him. He didn't threaten us or anything, he just said he had some useful information."
"What was this information?" Adrian sat back down on the couch and pulled me back down next to him. "He said you were in the mafia. All of you." Once again his eyes fell on me, but this time the look he was giving me was of hurt and disappointment. Something I won't ever forget.
"He said the person who shot my dad did it because of Jordan. As revenge."
"It was him idiot. He shot your dad." Matteo shook his head and looked over at me while Riley finally tried to fit all the pieces together. "You come from a family of idiots Jordan."
"Wait! You said he had an Italian blonde with him. He's Portuguese." We all looked at Carlotta who spoke for the first time during the whole ordeal. "So? What's that got to do with anything? We don't have time for this Carlotta."
The frustration in Adrian's tone was becoming more and more apparent from the time we were wasting just sitting here. I could tell there was something going through her head and by the look on her face, it was bad. Carlotta took out her phone and stepped towards Riley.
"Before you get angry Adrian, it's just an idea. She's been acting so weird lately; first she betrayed us then she's marrying Kaito and now she's in London for no reason, and she wasn't with us this morning. It doesn't add up. But I do hope I'm wrong."
She took the phone to Riley and showed him something, which I'm assuming was a photo of Mia.
"Yeah, that's her."
Carlotta looked over at all of us as we stared right back at her. It was Mia - the reason Dante knew about the plot to kill him was because of Mia. The reason he's alive is because of her. The reason he's going to be able to come for us now is because of her.
"Looks like we've found we've found our traitor."
Don't hate me 😭 Life has been so stressful recently. I promise the book will get finished soon, I've got the plans in my head, I just need to get them down. I love you all, thank you for reading my story and I hope you enjoyed this chapter ❤️(although it's not one of my best)
