~ Jordan's POV ~
1 & 1/2 years later
"Leo!" I rushed over to my 1 year old to stop him from touching the pair of shoes Matteo had left at the front door. Shoes are one of the things he's always been fascinated by ever since he could understand what they were, so I've made sure no one leaves them lying around. "Those are dirty. We don't touch shoes." Leo just gave me a small grin and wrapped his arms around me when I picked him up.
"Uncle Matteo has been naughty." Leo wriggled in my arms so that he could he could see my face before sending me a grin. "Naughty Matty." I nodded and kissed his forehead while carrying him into the kitchen. "Yes naughty." We arrived in the kitchen where Adrian, Matteo and Angelo were busy talking about something, probably mafia related. Although they all still work so hard, things have been going smoothly with them. We never heard from Dante again, not that we've given up on trying to find him or have forgotten what he's capable of; we've just been living our lives with a little less stress.
As soon as Leo noticed Matteo in the room he pointed his chubby hand in his direction. "Naughty Matty!" We all laughed at this, well apart from Matteo who was frowning at me. "Now what have I done? Stop teaching this poor child to hate me." I rolled my eyes and put Leo down on Adrian's lap before tidying up some dishes that had been left out. "I'm not teaching him anything, he's just got eyes for the truth." I heard Adrian laugh to himself at my response while playing with Leo.
Ever since Leo was old enough he's been so demanding for attention, he can't be quiet for five minutes unless he's asleep - someone has to keep him company at all times or he'll get fussy; and let me tell you, a fussy Leo makes me and Adrian argue like crazy. The first time it happened it was cute, we laughed about it, every thing was fine. The second time was a little less cute but we were okay, we both spent an equal amount of time with Leo before he fell asleep. By the third time Adrian and I got so mad at each other since we were both trying to get on with other things that we ended up dropping Leo off at Carlotta's house at 10pm. When we got back home we didn't actually do whatever it was that we wanted to do, we ended up using the the time alone for something else upstairs, but it still caused a lot of arguing nonetheless.
I could hear Matteo mumbling quietly to himself before I decided to tell him off for leaving his shoes out. The whole time he just argued back with me, he's such a child; and that's coming from someone who's worked with kids and also has a 1 year old. He's the worst I've ever met.
"Jordan I'll see you later. We're gonna go do...something." I rolled my eyes at Adrian's secretive tone, he didn't even try to hide that he was picking his words carefully, but I've learnt not to keep asking him what he's actually doing. Sometimes I'm not even sure I want to know. "Okay."
Adrian stood to his feet and came over to me letting me take Leo from his father's arms but this just caused him to burst out crying. I frowned at Leo who was holding onto me while his little body wracked with sobs. "What's wrong baby?" I glanced up at Adrian for any sort of clue but he seemed just as confused as I was, his eyes were fixed on Leo. I took Leo over to one of the kitchen counters and placed him down. I kissed his forehead and smiled at him in an attempt to make him feel calmer but all he did in response was reach out for me.
"What's wrong with him?" I shook my head in response to Matteo's concerned tone and picked Leo up once again holding him in my arms. "Don't worry about it, he'll be okay soon. You guys go, I'll see you later babe." I kissed Adrian's cheek before leaving the kitchen deciding it was best for Leo to be somewhere quieter like his nursery. I spent the next couple of hours keeping my bouncing baby boy entertained until he finally went down for his nap.
I made my way down to the kitchen to make some green tea, making sure to keep the baby monitor with me in case Leo woke up. My steps faltered on the stairs when the doorbell rang - images of the night I opened the door for Matteo thinking it was Adrian over two years ago came flooding back to me.
We haven't given our address to anyone we don't trust and we still have lots of security around so I knew it couldn't have been anyone dangerous, unless they managed to find the house and kill all the guards.
I nervously stepped towards the front door when the bell rang again. I checked through the small peep hole to see Mia standing on the other side of the door. I thought about pretending that no one was home but decided not to risk it. If Adrian somehow found out about it he would just get worried knowing I was meant to be at home with our son. I had no choice but to let her in. I unlocked the door before opening it revealing the youngest De Mancuso sibling. Mia flashed me a huge smile before stepping past me into the house.
~ Adrian's POV ~
"Hurry up Matteo." My voice caught my brother off guard and he glared at me after he dropped everything he was holding all over the floor. Next to me Angelo burst out laughing causing me to send him a glare of my own. "I was going as fast as I could! I don't see you carrying anything."
"I'll shoot you in the foot if you complain anymore. Just pick everything up. Quickly." Matteo rolled his eyes mumbling things to himself while he picked everything up off the floor. "Adrian I don't understand this whole thing. Why do you need to do it?" I resisted the urge to groan when Angelo asked the same question I'd answered about eight times since we left the house a few hours ago.
"This is why neither of you will ever make good husbands." I heard them snigger to themselves as I pushed the cart through the store with the two idiots following behind me. Once we got everything we needed I paid and ended up loading everything into the car myself while Matteo went off to talk to some girls he saw.
Angelo and I got in the car and waited patiently for a few minutes since I needed to check my phone and respond to a few messages regarding a shipment coming in a little later on. Once I'd done all of that and he wasn't back yet I used the most efficient method I could think of to bring him back. I blew the horn over and over again in the small parking lot causing everyone to turn towards my Range Rover Sport, probably wondering what kind of crazy person was blowing the horn like that. It worked well for me though because the windows were tinted black meaning no one could see me, but everyone could see Matteo running to my car as quickly as he could to stop the annoying horn. I smirked as I watched him scramble into the car, I glanced back in the mirror to see the girls staring at the car with bewildered faces.
"Thanks a lot for that you bastard, you just blew any chance I had with them." Angelo was doubled over in a fit of laughter while I just chuckled in response but said nothing as I started the car and drove towards the boat harbour. He deserved it.

Hours later we finally made it home right on schedule although it was still pretty early in the day. I searched around the silent house looking for Jordan who was nowhere to be seen. After checking downstairs I made my way upstairs leaving Angelo and Matteo in the living room. I checked Leo's nursery first but there was no sign of either of them. I had to force myself not to panic too early since I hadn't checked our bedroom yet but there's always that feeling inside of me that something bad could happen any minute.
I quietly opened our bedroom door and relief washed through me when I saw Jordan curled up on the bed with Leo in her arms. At the sound of my footsteps in the room Jordan's eyes opened. "Hey beautiful." Jordan sent me tired smile and carefully sat up so that she didn't wake Leo up.
"Pack an overnight bag." I picked Leo up causing him to stir slightly, I rested him in my arms and he eventually settled down placing his head on my chest. "Why? Did something happen?" I just shook my head and smiled at Jordan to calm her down before she started assuming the worst and panicking over nothing.
"Just do it. Don't pack anything for Leo, Carlotta and Matteo are staying over to look after him." Jordan frowned but stood to her feet anyway and made her way into the closet. I took Leo into his nursery and called Matteo up to watch him while I packed my stuff for tonight.
"You ready?" Jordan sighed but nodded as she tiredly zipped up her bag. She'd changed into a pair of shorts and a tank top which showed off her tanned skin and her long legs. I couldn't stop my eyes from roaming over her figure as she collected the final things she needed for her handbag. Her eyes caught me in the reflection in the mirror and I sent her a smirk before leaving the room not waiting to see what her reaction would be. "Don't forget to bring a hoodie or something - you might need it."
A few minutes later Jordan came into the nursery, this time holding a hoodie too. We said our goodbyes to Leo who was awake now but he didn't even seem to care he was more interested in spending time with Matteo who on the other side of the room was busy being lectured by Jordan about how to take care of the baby since Carlotta hadn't got here yet. Half an hour later we managed to get into the car and if I hadn't anticipated that Jordan would take so long to say goodbye to Leo, we would have been way behind schedule.
"What's got you in such a rush?" I rolled my eyes at Jordan's teasing tone as I started the car. "Don't start." The rest of the 2 hour drive to the coast was spent in a comfortable silence until we pulled up the harbour where Jordan started firing her questions at me; she had a lot to ask.
"Jordan! Just be quiet now. Can't you tell I'm not going to tell you anything." She just shook her head in annoyance and turned away from me while I drove my speedboat away from the coast of Italy. Once we got on the boat she decided to put the hoodie on after the spray from the water soaked her top completely. I wasn't complaining though since it was a white tank top and I could see my favourite red bra underneath. The smirk I sent her when she made eye contact with me just pushed her over the edge, ever since then she's been in a mood. This just added to my amusement though.
"Come here." I slowed down the speed boat so that Jordan could make her way over to me. She turned to glare at me when I placed her infront of me and guided her hands to the steering wheel while keeping her enclosed in my arms. Eventually she relaxed against my chest; I controlled the speed while Jordan steered the boat with a wide carefree smile on her face. She was nervous at first be she quickly got the hand of it. I told Jordan which way to go, which was basically me pointing in different directions. She drove the boat for a while but eventually had enough so I took over the driving again for the last ten minutes of the 45 minute boat trip.
I threw down the anchor and also tied the boat to a peer before letting Jordan climb up the small wooden ladder first. She waited for me at the top so that I could pass our bags up to her before I climbed up aswell. "Where are we Adrian?"
"An island." She rolled her eyes and followed behind me as I led us towards our destination while holding onto my hand. "Why?"
"Because I didn't fancy spending the night in the middle of the sea." I heard Jordan groan to herself at my teasing tone before she stubbornly stopped in her tracks causing me to stop too. "I'm not going anywhere with you if you don't tell me. I mean it Adrian." I chuckled at her attempt at getting some information out of me even though by now she should have known it was going to be pointless. "Come on baby, it's not even that far..." I gestured towards the path lined with palm trees lighted by tree lights. "Just come with me and all will be revealed."
I tugged on her hand causing her to sigh but she finally followed behind me quietly. We eventually made it to the villa situated on the coast of the island. The island was a small one owned by my family in the Mediterranean Sea, we had a few houses dotted around it which we used primarily as safe houses but it was also where my 'parents' had their honeymoon and so a beautiful place for a holiday. I guided Jordan towards the steps of the villa as she took in the large house in front of her.
"Ti piace?" (Do you like it?) Jordan's eyes moved all around before she finally turned to me and nodded. "I love it...it's so beautiful." I released a breath of relief and kissed her forehead before walking up the steps. "Non bello come te, tesoro mio." (Not as beautiful as you my sweetheart.)
Jordan followed behind me into the house where I placed our bags down. "Where's the bathroom? I need to change my top." At the thought of seeing her nice red bra through her top earlier another smirk played on my lips causing Jordan to hit my chest in annoyance. I pointed towards the bathroom downstairs through my laugher and she chose another top from her bag before storming off. "I'll be in the kitchen!" I watched in amusement as she went into the bathroom and sent me another glare before slamming the door shut. She should know by now I love teasing her, I jump at every opportunity I can to do it. Her reactions are too funny.
I started heating up the food when Jordan finally came back. The smell of the food I cooked earlier that morning lingered in the air as she came inside. "Adrian that smells amazing! When did you do all this?" Jordan's eyes scanned over the dishes of food I'd put out earlier with surprise and appreciation.
"Angelo and Matteo helped me. We came early this morning so I could get all this done for you." I came up behind her wrapping my arms around her waist causing her to turn around to face me instinctively. "Why?" I smiled and shrugged my shoulders at her question. "Do I need a reason to make my wife feel special? I love you and want you to know that." Jordan smiled and leaned up pressing her lips against mine.
"I love you too, even if you are a jerk sometimes." I rolled my eyes and pecked her lips one more time before watching her as she turned her head to stare at all the food once again. "I would show you how much I love you...but this food is calling my name." I shook my head at her cuteness as a chuckle escaped my mouth. Before I let her go my grip on her waist tightened and I leaned down towards her neck, taking in her sweet scent and shallow breath as I whispered to her. "Don't worry, you'll have plenty of time to show me later on." I could feel the heat radiating from her cheeks as I traced my lips over her jaw before kissing her cheek.
As soon as I moved away she seemed to have forgotten what just happened and was more focused on the food. I don't understand how someone can love food as much as Jordan does yet be so slim and in perfect shape. We plated up the food and sat outside on the deck overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
Jordan released a sigh as she sat on the couch outside, the sun was shining directly on her causing her skin to glow. "You're so beautiful." A light blush arose on her cheeks and instead of making eye contact at me while I continued to stare at her across from me, she looked down at her plate. I knew I was making her shy and I loved it.
"Adrian stop." I chuckled and took her hand and placed a light kiss on it before eating my own food. "You cooked all of this." I glanced up at Jordan who was already frowning at me. "What do you mean?" Jordan sighed and put her fork down before sending me a disapproving look.
"You said the boys helped you, but I can tell that you cooked all of it. Alone. Trust me I've tasted all three of your cooking, I know the difference. Why did you lie?" I shook my head to object but she gave me a warning look before I could. "I didn't lie; they did help. Just not with the cooking, they helped with some other things."
"Like what?" I threw my head back and let out a groan. "Come on Jordan. Please - just let me surprise you. Stop asking." Instead of being annoyed she smiled a little and nodded before going back to her food. I know she hates surprises and she hates anyone going to too much trouble for her, but sometimes she just has to let me.
"Can you believe that over two and half years ago we met in a coffee shop in London and now we're here." Jordan gestured around her with a far away look on her face - it was a happy expression though. "Married and with our baby boy." She sent me a small nervous smile as her hair blew across her face almost acting as a shield when she asked me a question which I knew the answer to instantly. "Are you happy Adrian?"
I didn't even have to think about my answer because the answer was easy. Jordan was the best thing that ever happened to me. I know I treated her like absolute crap when I met her; I would go back in a heartbeat to change everything but the truth is I was just as scared as her. I didn't know how to cope with having someone so innocent, young and perfect depend on me for safety. Safety from me.
I know I have enemies but in the end she only really needed protecting from me. Dante was a bump in the road but I was the reason for all our issues. It was my connection to the mafia that brought all the problems to our door, my family that continued to treat her like an outsider and it was me that broke her. But I know I was wrong, I made myself a promise the night Jordan attempted to take her own life. I would never let her break again. I was determined never to let that happen again. I know what I need to do to keep my beautiful family safe - it's simple. Keep them with me and never leave them.
I looked across the table at the woman who had changed my life and I nodded. "Si. I am." (Yes. I am.) Jordan sent me a relieved smile before nodding. "Good. Me too." We finished our dinner making small talk with one another, a comfortable atmosphere surrounded us. I checked the time on my phone before standing up and taking the plates into the kitchen while Jordan was busy taking pictures of the view. When I came back out she passed me her phone. "Can you take some pictures of me." She didn't really give me much of a choice so I spent the next ten minutes taking pictures of her until she was happy. She showed me her favourite one as we walked down to the beach.
"You're actually pretty good at taking pictures Adrian." I rose an eyebrow at her before placing my hand over my heart feigning hurt. "Why'd you sound so surprised?" Jordan cracked a small smile before looking back down at her phone. We carried on walking towards beach in a comfortable silence which was finally broken when she finally saw why we were here.
"Adrian...this is amazing." I watched Jordan step towards the picnic blanket on the sand which was surrounded by fairy lights in the sand. We both took a seat on the blanket where chocolate coated fruit and champagne were waiting for us. "So what made you come up with all of this?" I glanced up at Jordan who was sending me a teasing smile as I opened the ice cold champagne bottle. "I remember you told me you always wanted to watch the sunset on the beach. So here we are."
Her teasing smile morphed into a surprised then appreciative one as she watched me fill our glasses. "You went to all this trouble for me?" I nodded and passed her a glass, I leaned over and kissed her cheek before whispering in her ear. "I'd do absolutely anything for you tesoro." Jordan looked down at her glass in order to avoid making eye contact with me and to hide her growing blush.
"So what did you do today?" She rolled her eyes in amusement at my attempt to make conversation but answered me anyway. "Not much. I kept Leo company for most of the day...oh, and of course Mia came over, but you know that." Jordan popped a chocolate covered strawberry in her mouth after she finished speaking, leaving me time to question her.
"What do you mean? I didn't know that."
"Of course you did, you sent her." I scoffed and shook my head before taking another sip of my champagne. "No I didn't, that girl talks too much I would never do that to you. Anyway I've been here all day focusing on making everything perfect for you, I haven't even spoken to her for a few days."
"But she said you sent her to check up on us.." Jordan sat up straight as a concerned frowned flashed across her face. "What if she's up to something?" I shook my head and put my glass down on the sand. "Don't worry about it. She probably came up with that excuse just to see Leo. You know how much she loves him. I'll ask her about it tomorrow when we get home."
I reached across and took her hand to comfort her, before looking into her eyes. "You're paranoid, just relax and drink your champagne." I pulled her towards me causing her to quickly put her glass down before it spilled everywhere. I wrapped my arms around her waist as she leaned back against me resting her head against my shoulder whilst staring up at the sky which was starting to change colour.
"You don't drink champagne Adrian, you sip it."
"It's the same freaking thing just swallow the damn thing." Jordan chuckled at my irritation but stayed quiet for a few minutes.
"This is why you've been checking the time every few minutes?" I nodded and kissed the top of her head before resting my chin on her head. "It was important that we got here on time. I spent the whole freaking day with Matteo and Angelo making jokes about it, I needed it to be perfect in the end."
"Oh Adrian, you know they're just immature. Wait until they get married, then they'll be asking you for help. Especially Angelo, he hasn't even asked Carlotta to move in with him yet and it's been over a year and a half." I chuckled when she said exactly the same thing I told them this morning but I nodded in agreement anyway and after that we watched the most beautiful sunset over the Mediterranean Sea while sipping on the champagne. I never thought I would go to this much trouble for something like this for anyone.
What the hell has happened to me.
I used to spend my time drinking beer or bourbon with the boys while watching the game or something. Now according to my wife I'm 'sipping', not drinking, sipping champagne on the beach. The perks of getting married I suppose. But I wouldn't change it for the world.
Once the sunset was over we packed everything up and walked hand in hand back towards the villa. I gave Jordan a tour of the rest of the house before we finally made it to our room where I'm pretty sure we were going to spend the rest of the evening.
"I love it Adrian, we should come here more often." Jordan looked around the room with a wide smile on her face as I placed our bags down and made my way over to her. "Yeah?" I rose an eyebrow at her with a teasing smirk as she nodded and wrapped her arms around my neck.
"If it means I get to spend more time with you tesoro then we can come here whenever you want to." She smiled at me and leaned up pressing her lips against mine.
"Thank you, for everything. It was perfect baby." She pecked my lips again before whispering against them. "I love you."
I placed my hands on her waist pulling her up against me. "I love you too my princess." I kissed her again as I walked us towards the bed while intensifying the kiss. I gently pushed Jordan down on the bed before taking off my shirt throwing it across the room somewhere; I caught her staring at my body and a small smirk made it's way onto my face. Once again a small blush arose on her cheeks when she realised she was caught staring; I leaned down kissing her cheeks before pecking her lips.
"You can stare all you want tesoro; I told you on our honeymoon. It's all yours, and it always will be."
