Chapter 12 - See You In Hell
(Jordan ^ )
~ Jordan's POV ~
"Jordan hurry up, you're taking ages! Everyone is already at the party." I resisted the urge to give Adrian a piece of my mind, he was sitting on the bed waiting for me to get ready, he's been complaining for the last 20 minutes. "No one said you had to wait for me." I glanced over at Adrian who was wearing a crisp white shirt and a black Gucci suit. His hair was styled in his usual style, he looked perfect.
"Just put your dress on so we can go already." He took his phone out whilst he waited for me to get ready. It's funny because he thinks his complaining will make me go any faster, it wasn't my fault I was so late. There was an issue with the cake that all four siblings went to sort out yesterday, it needed fixing today and because Carlotta and Mia were too busy getting ready, I had to go with Adrian to fix the problem and re-design the cake. I didn't want to but they insisted to Adrian that he wasn't good enough to go on his own. I haven't seen either of them all day which I'm glad about, I also haven't seen Antonia but I've definitely heard her. Her high pitched voice is so loud I can hear it from Adrian and I's room; which also means I have to listen to Adrian mumbling curse words directed at his ex constantly.
I slipped off my robe and stepped into my nude dress decorated with pearls. "Adrian, help me with my dress." I heard him let out a sigh and his footsteps came up behind me, one of his hands went to my hip whilst he zipped up the back of my dress. I finished the final touches to my make up and grabbed my clutch and put my heels on before we left the house. It's been around four and a half weeks since I broke my ankle, the fracture wasn't that bad so Adrian had a doctor replace my ugly cast with a thick bandage just to support it now.
"Make sure you stay with me all night, don't leave my side." I glanced over at Adrian who was driving with one hand, his other hand was resting on the middle console; he was biting his lip assessing the traffic in front of us, everything he did just caused me to become a hormonal teenage girl all over again. And I hate the man.
"Okay." He met my eyes and frowned. "I mean it Jordan, it's not safe." I rolled my eyes becoming sick of the same line over and over again. "You might aswell just kill me Adrian because everything I do isn't safe anymore." I could tell what I said pissed him off but he stayed quiet, it was probably the smart thing to do though, otherwise we would have ended up arguing.
We pulled up to the venue where Dominico's birthday party was being held. Our doors were opened for us and the valet took Adrian's keys to park his car. I linked my arm through Adrian's which was another one of his demands, we walked in together, everyone's eyes on us.
"Walk slower Adrian, my ankle is still hurting." I hadn't worn heels for ages so it was taking some getting used to especially with a healing ankle. Adrian slowed down and we made our way into the large hall, the decor was so pretty and sophisticated, I have to admit Adrian and his siblings did a pretty good job organising the whole thing. We walked through the tables towards the table where Adrian's family were sitting. On the way numerous people stopped us to speak to Adrian, I just stayed quiet unless Adrian introduced me to whoever he was speaking to. Finally we made it to the table and everyone looked up when we got there causing my grip to tighten on Adrian, I didn't like the looks I was recieving from Carlotta and Antonia.
"Oh Jordan you look so beautiful!" I turned towards Adrian's mom who had stood up to give me a hug. I gave her a smile and returned the compliment, even though all her children were in their twenties she still looked so young. Adrian and I hugged Dominico too and wished him a happy birthday.
Adrian pulled out a chair for me next to Mia; I mumbled a thank you and sat down whilst Adrian took the seat next to me. It was silent among the table for a while and I nervously looked around the room, I had no idea what I was looking for though, I was just wishing that I could be anywhere else but here. I felt a hand on mine under the table and I turned towards Adrian in confusion. He leaned closer to me and whispered so that no one else could hear what he was saying.
"Just chill out, you're a nervous wreck tesoro." I moved my lips towards his ear, the scent of his cologne causing my mouth to water. "You try being at a table where almost everyone hates you."
Adrian chuckled at my comment. "Trust me tesoro, My parents and Mia don't hate you. And anyway I can guarantee you that apart from my family and friends, everyone else in this room hates me, because of who I am."
Before I could respond to him I felt a tap on my shoulder, I turned around to see a little blonde girl smiling at me showing off the gap between her teeth where a tooth was missing. "You're pretty. I'm Emily." I leaned down a little closer to her and gave her a sweet smile.
"Thank you, but you're prettier Emily. I'm Jordan. How did you get your hair so curly?" I ran my hand through her small curls as she giggled and stepped closer to me. "My mommy did it."
"Ask her to teach you and then you can do it for me one day." She nodded eagerly before whispering to me. "Do you know him?" I looked in the direction she was pointing in and my eyes landed on Adrian. I chuckled and nodded turning my attention back to Emily. "Yes he's my husband."
"He's pretty too." I smiled and glanced over at Adrian who was frowning, probably because someone called him pretty. "He is, but he's annoying." Her mouth formed into an 'o' shape before she spoke. "Boys are annoying, my brother makes me sad sometimes, and boys at school."
"You shouldn't be sad, boys might be annoying but it's just their way of showing you they care about you. The boys who upset you at school probably like you, because you're gorgeous." Her cheeks glowed a rosy red shade as she smiled at me. "Really?" I nodded at her. "Of course! So don't be sad, stay happy, promise me you will?" I held out my pinky for her and she linked hers through mine. "I promise! By Jordan!" She gave me one last toothy grin before she ran off probably back to her parents.
I turned around to see Adrian frowning at me. "What?" He shook his head in response but his frown stayed. "Nothing...you're just really good with kids." I chuckled and nodded. "I was a teacher in London Adrian, it was kind of my job."
"So Jordan, when are you planning to go back to teaching then?" I turned towards the sound of the voice my eyes landing on Carlotta. "Maybe soon, I'm just getting used to the huge change of moving to Italy and being married first." At the mention of being married my eyes moved to Antonia who was glaring at me.
"Oh right. Well you might want to re-think the decision of being a teacher, I don't think Adrian will like it." I resisted the urge to roll my eyes knowing most of Adrian's family was watching both Carlotta and I. "Don't worry. He's okay with it." I gave her a forced smile but she just stared at me.
"So are you planning to have any kids soon then?" This time it was Antonia who jumped in. I didn't know what type of game they were playing but it was quite pathetic, it was like they were purposely trying to embarrass me. They clearly weren't aware that I wasn't the type of girl to back down so easily.
"Possibly, we haven't spoken about kids yet. Like I said, I'm just trying to get used to married life first." In the corner of my eye I saw a satisfied smile on Adrian's face which helped my confidence knowing he was happy with my response.
"Oh. Well from what I remember Adrian doesn't like kids, especially with his job he probably won't spend much time with you and your...baby." Her sentence trailed off as she gave me a look of disgust to which I just rose an eyebrow. "Well, he's older now and he's married meaning his priorities have changed. If I'm correct you guys never made it past a month of being engaged? It couldn't have been your fault though I'm sure, let's just put it down to the fact you were both so young."
Both Adrian and Mia chuckled next to me along with Matteo across the table and I'm pretty sure Dominico cracked a smile too. "You little bi-" Adrian quickly cut Antonia off, his amusement disappearing.
"That's enough. If you're both done trying to publicly attack and humiliate my wife then I'm going to take her to dance." He sent them both a glare before standing up and taking my hand. I got up and followed him to the dance floor. "Adrian I can't dance, my ankle still hurts." Adrian ignored me and continued walking, we ended up bypassing the dance floor and instead went out to one of the balconies over looking the traditional Italian coastal city. I leaned on the balcony and looked out at the old Italian buildings and churches glowing in the night, a cool breeze blew from the sea causing me to shiver slightly.
I felt warmth engulf me and I looked to see that Adrian had put his jacket around me. I turned around properly to face him and I gave him a small smile. "I'm sorry about all that, you should have probably expected it though." I rolled my eyes when Adrian referred to the little show down I just had with his sister and his ex.
"Why are they even friends? Shouldn't Carlotta have been on your side, she did cheat on you after all."
"She's a bitch that's why Jordan. She only became friends with Antonia when I got with her, she let their friendship get in the way of our relationship and when Antonia cheated on me she took her side." Adrian stared at the view refusing to meet my eyes but I knew he was hurt. Anyone would be if they lost their sister to someone who cheated on them.
"Adrian.." I stepped towards him and placed my hand his arm, he turned to face me but decided to change the subject. "I haven't told you how beautiful you look tonight." I gave him a small smile and opened my mouth to say thank you but a throat clearing stopped me from doing so. I turned around to see Matteo standing in the doorway of the balcony and I stepped closer to Adrian instinctively.
"What do you want Matteo?" Adrian's voice became cold when he spoke to his brother. "Can I speak to Jordan please?" Adrian scoffed and stepped towards his brother threateningly. "You're crazy if you think I'll ever let you be alone with her again."
"Fine you can stay then, I just wanted to apologise to her." Matteo turned his attention to me whilst I made sure to keep my face void of any emotion. "I'm sorry for what I did to you and how I've treated you since you've been here." I rose an eyebrow at him, the resentment I felt towards him taking over.
"That's a pretty crappy apology for what you did Matteo, you tried to kill me and then you beat me up, and that's just the worst of what you did." Matteo sighed and nodded stepping closer to us but Adrian sent him a glare causing him to stop in his tracks. "I know. I just didn't trust you Jordan, and I was angry. It was pathetic but I was, I didn't understand why Adrian brought you to Italy and I didn't think you would be good for him. I've watched my father and brother work so hard all their lives and I just saw you as a threat to everything that they've built, I'm sorry."
Adrian stayed silent and remained tense, I don't know if he really had nothing to say or if he was waiting for me to speak.
"I accept your apology." As soon as the words left my mouth both Adrian and Matteo turned to me with shock written on their faces. "You do?" I nodded in response to Matteo's question. "But, I don't forgive you for what you did and I probably won't ever trust you; around me or any children I have with Adrian in the future. Unless you can prove me wrong."
"I will, I promise." I nodded as Matteo mumbled an apology to Adrian for interrupting us then he left. I let out a sigh and turned back towards the beautiful view. Seconds later I felt Adrian come up behind me and wrap his arms
around my waist, he rested his chin on my head. "You're too much of a nice person tesoro."
"I'm not that nice, there's no way I'll ever forgive him for what he did, I just don't want to be on his bad side anymore; you've seen what happened to me when I was." Adrian sighed but didn't say anything else to me. After a few minutes he moved away from me and took my hand. "Let's go back inside."
I took of his suit jacket and gave it back to him as we walked back into the party. We made it back to the table just as the food was being served, perfect timing. "Jordan you look really nice today." I gave Mia a small smile unsure of what else to say to her. Adrian keeps insisting she doesn't hate me but from the way she spoke to me the other day, I couldn't be sure.
"Thanks. So do you." Her smile faltered at the slightly cold tone in my voice, I didn't do it on purpose, I just couldn't help it.
"I'm sorry for what I said to you, I only found out what actually happened between you and Matteo after." I nodded absentmindedly and started eating my food. "Sure." Mia let out a sigh of frustration and turned away from me. I know I probably should have at least looked at her when she apologised but I just really didn't care for some reason, the way she spoke to me wasn't nice especially since she just admitted didn't actually know what really happened when she said it.
I ate my food listening to some of the speeches being read out by Dominico's friends and family. Adrian was meant to say a speech later on which he was busy trying to write all day. "Are you nervous?" Adrian glanced up at me from his food and gave me a smirk.
"Do I get nervous tesoro?" I rolled my eyes at his arrogant response causing him to chuckle. "Sorry I forgot, you're a mafia boss you don't have real feelings." He laughed at my response before leaning closer to whisper in my ear. "I have real feelings for you."
I felt butterflies in the pit of my stomach when he said this but I played it cool and nudged him away from me with my elbow. "Adrian." We both turned around to see a tall, brown haired man standing next to us. His skin was slightly wrinkled but he couldn't have been over 60 years old, his arm was linked through the arm of a young woman who looked to be in her twenties, possibly younger. I tried to hold back a frown of disgust when I saw a wedding ring on her finger. I know I shouldn't judge but she looked young enough to be his granddaughter.
"Dante." Adrian took my hand and pulled me up out of my chair causing me to frown. I wasn't finished eating.
"È passato molto tempo, ragazzo mio. Vedo che hai una nuova puttana." (It's been a long time my boy. I see you've got a new whore.) Dante glanced over at me with a disgusting smirk, his eyes travelled over my body causing my skin to crawl. "This is my wife, Jordan. She doesn't speak Italian." I was surprised at the undertones of anger in Adrian's voice.
"Oh! Well you've managed to get yourself a good one here Adrian." Dante clapped Adrian on the shoulder giving him a sly smirk. "Let me know if you ever want a night away from her, I'll gladly take her off your hands." I felt my anger rise at the way Dante was staring at me like I was a piece of meat.
"You're disgusting." At the sound of my voice both Adrian and Dante turned towards me, sadly I don't have a filter when I get angry. "You'd have to be a slut or just desperate to want to get into bed with a pig like you." Anger was clearly evident on Dante's face when I spoke, he took a small step towards me.
"You need someone to put you back in your place you little whore, clearly Adrian is too soft on you. I don't mind doing it if necessary." I scoffed ignoring Adrian who said my name in an attempt to stop me from retaliating.
"You're clearly not a real man if you need to use violence to make a woman submit to you." Anger blazed in Dante's eyes and before anyone saw it coming, his palm swung out connecting with my cheek. Enraged, Adrian immediately pulled out his gun aiming it at Dante.
The room went silent, the sound of guns being pulled out could be heard from behind Dante and from behind Adrian. Adrian didn't seem fazed knowing their were countless guns being pointed at him, probably because he knew he had his own men with their guns out behind him ready to shoot if necessary.
"Now I know where your wife gets her temper from." Dante chuckled but he wasn't amused in the slightest. "Put your gun down Adrian."
"You put your damn hands on my wife and you think I'm going to put my gun down? I don't give a damn who you are Dante. I'll kill you right here, right now." I rubbed my sore cheek, instantly regretting the way I spoke to Dante, only because I didn't want anyone to get hurt.
"Your whore deserved it. Try it Adrian. Go on. As soon as you even think about pulling that trigger, you'll be gunned down along with your precious family." Adrian was breathing heavily, his gun still aimed at Dante.
"Adrian put your gun down." I turned around to see Matteo coming to Adrian's side but Adrian ignored his brother and instead clicked the safety off on his gun. "Adrian please." Adrian's attention was taken away from Dante at the sound of my voice.
"Don't do it, just put it down." I watched Adrian's grip on his gun slack slightly at my request causing a smirk to stretch across Dante's face. Adrian seemed to think about it for a second and instead of doing what I asked, he did the complete opposite.
"Get them out of here. And protect Jordan with your life." Adrian spoke to Matteo before he turned back to Dante. "See you in hell you son of a bitch." It felt like everything happened in slow motion, Adrian turned his attention back to Dante just as Matteo jumped in the way between the gun and Dante, but Adrian had already pulled the trigger.
