Unscheduled Plan

Moyo P.O.V

She blinked at the man had called father all her years. With him, she never knew when he was serious, or when he was just playing with her.

Did he really wait to take her home?

She would have loved to, considering the fact that she missed her mother so much, but if her mother wanted her back home, she should have told her. She was willing to go if it will bring peace to both home. What was more important than their happiness?

Before she could say another word, her father burst into laughter, “I’m just joking oh. Look at your face.” He blur his in a strange manner. “So, you sef like money. I thought you always say you love us regardless of what we have, but money has change your mind now, abi?”

“No…” She tried to protest, but her father cut her off, rudely.

“Forget it. Call me Cassie. I’ll soon be on my way.”

She didn’t want him to leave with that misconception, but she knew there was no changing his mind in any way. So, she nodded, and moved towards the stairs.

When she got to the front of Cassie’s room, she heard whisper voice. She strained her eyes to hear the conversation without touching the door.

“Don’t worry, I’ll return the money soon. I just need my daddy to allow me have access to my bank account, and that will be soon.”

Silence.

It seemed whoever she was talking to was now speaking now.

“Don’t worry. I’ll add your interest. I promise.”

She didn’t hear anything again, until the door suddenly open, almost making her fall from leaning towards the door.

Cassie’s features harden immediately she took notice of Moyo. “What are you doing here?” She didn’t wait for her response, “Are you spying on me. So, you can badmouth me.”

Moyo shook her head.

What was with the doubts?

“No. I’m not spying on you, and the only reason I came here was because dad asked me to call you.”

Cassie rolled her eyes, “Your daddy is calling me.”

She nodded.

Unexpectedly, Cassie started moving down the stairs. Moyo watched her retreating back while trying to understand what was going on.

When did she get so close to her father for her to acknowledge his presence?  And that was without her arguing.

Maybe it was a good thing. She forced a smile on her lips.

Cassie P.O.V.

The look on Moyo’s face told Cassie that she heard most of her conversations, but there was no way she could prove anything even if she told anyone.

First, she has deleted the call from her call log.

Second, his number wasn’t saved on her phone.

She moved downstairs until she stopped in front of her father. The living room looked so unkempt that she signaled a maid to come clean it up.

Her father smiled the moment he saw her, and waited for the maid to leave before saying a word.

“So, what’s the plan?” Cassie’s voice was low, that no one could hear unless they moved closer to them. “What are you going to do to get that girl away from my life? I hate her so much. Ever since her life got tangled with mine, it has been one problem to another.”

Her father sighed, “Don’t bother about her. I already told you I will deal with it.”

But Cassie wanted to know. She needed to know. She needed to know every plan that will make that girl ceased to be part of her life. She wanted to untangle everything that had to do with her.

She sighed, “What if my daddy comes back and decide to bring me back there?”

When she heard Cassie called him daddy, a look of hurt washed over his face. She had never addressed him in such way. But he schooled his features. “Don’t worry; there will be no place for him to return you to.”

She slanted her eyes at him, “What do you mean? Are you guys relocating?”

He nodded, “Yes, and your father will have no idea where that is. Without a destination to drop you, and no go ahead from us, he won’t abandon you. You’re stuck with them for life.”

She loved that phrase, “Then what about your wife, won’t she communicate with them.”

He shook his head, “Not if she wants peace for herself. I’ve worked so hard for this and I can’t let it go down in a drain like that.”

Cassie’s smile widened. She didn’t really expect this man to be of this much help to her, but he was certainly making her work easier for her. But there was one thing still bothering her, “What of your daughter?” Her gaze moved towards the stairs.

The man frowned as if he was lost in thoughts, and just when he was about to speak, the front door opened and Florence walked in.

She looked around before her eyes zeroed in on them.

That moment Cassie was glad she had informed the maid to clean the living room or her mother would have been furious.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Zamani. It’s so good to see you.”

The man nodded, shaking hands with her mother. “It’s good to see you too, Mrs. Adeleke. And thank you for taking care of my daughters all these years. I don’t think I have actually appreciated your effort.”

She laughed, “I appreciate you taking care of mine, too. It wasn’t anyone’s fault that the children were swapped by mistake. We just have to be thankful that we found them back.”

The man nodded like he agreed with her.

Cassie smiled. “Mummy has decided to let me stay here.”

His eyes widened, “Really! Thank you ma’am. I’ll appreciate if my daughter stays here until I can come for her.”

Florence rubbed her hand slowly on Cassie’s arm, “Cassie will forever remain my daughter, so that’s no problem.”

He looked around once more, before turning to them, “I’ll be taking my leave now. Cassie, I won’t forget my promise to you.”
