Sleepover (part 3)

Angela's Point Of View;

I wasn't expecting Misty to walk out of the room. Maybe he changed his mind about the whole thing. But that hope was destroyed because, after a short while, he came back. But this time he had a mauve duffle bag that seemed to be full of all his hair products. The question of why he traveled with so many of them came to mind. But as I was learning these people never do anything halfway.

When he was taking it out I moved closer to see what they actually were. Without looking at me he pushed five different bottles into my hands. I only recognized two of them as shampoo and conditioner. Then he started giving me instructions on hair care. I nodded to most of it. But when I got to the bathroom sink I couldn't remember most of what he said. So I mostly improvised and managed to get passed the washing phase. It wasn't that difficult with all of the products he told me to use. I came out to sit on one of the chairs near the window. He was helping me dry it cause I couldn't work the blow dryer. As it turns out that moisturizer isn't just for your hands. It works in hair also. He had me put it in the sections that he dried. It gave me curls that didn't tangle. Why wasn't I told about this earlier? I could have avoided all of those painful hair-combing years.

As we were doing that he talked about experimenting with different hairstyles. I nodded again but I honestly had no real interest in doing that. This was nice but it all seemed too time-consuming. It would be better if I keep my hair as simple as possible. While he was busy finishing up my hair I finally had a chance to check the phone. It was now charged up enough so I could find out what was on it. When trying to turn it on; it asked for my fingerprint for identification.

I never came across a phone that was so highly complex. I placed my thumb where it requested it. And surprisingly it took accepted my print. For us to have the same print means she was more than just my look alike. Then I felt like the phone had stuck something in my thumb that made me flinch. It didn't hurt but it did catch me off, guard. What really hurt was when I jumped upwards, my head hit Misty's hand where the bottle of moisturizer was in. It fell out of his hand and I was looking at my thumb. It wasn't injured or had any marks on it.

"Why did you suddenly move like that?" Misty asked me as I rubbed my thumb with my index finger feeling for a bruise of some sort.

"I think the phone let out a magnetic shock or something. It didn't hurt, just felt weird." I answered as Misty continued doing my hair.

"Is it a new phone?"

"Well... it's the newest one I've ever had." I replied to his question as he rest the bottle of moisturizer down and opened the curtains near the window revealing the view of the forest.

"Then that was just the Neuro microchip," he said while picking up another bottle that I didn't know the use of. But what I really wanted was to get a further explanation of what had stung my finger.

"The Neuro what?"

"You know the microchip thing, it sticks in your finger if your a new phone user 'cause that's the only way you will be able to use your phone and keep your history." He answered looking as if he was searching for the words to explain.

On hearing that I turned to face him which stopped him from applying whatever that product. "Why is that the only way?"

Misty then shrugged his shoulders but his facial expression seemed to really be thinking about it. "I don't know, it just is. That's just the way they make it so it can link to your brain. Maybe that's the only way for it to know what you're looking for and customize your settings. Now turn back around so I can finish this."

I did as he asked and he placed his hand that sheltered my eyes. Then I heard a loud spraying sound over me. "What happens to the microchip when you get a new phone?" I tried to ask him over the noise.

He stopped momentarily to answer, "It transmits the new code which gives the same feeling."

Then he started back. Well, learning about that was a little creepy. But it's too late to turn back now. I was already linked to the phone and it went automatically to the contact list. I didn't really know what I expected to find here. But it did have some other couple of names besides Misty and Uncle. It figures that she wouldn't put their actual names here. I didn't know the other people on the list. And I certainly wasn't going to call to find out. Strangely I didn't see my parents or even their names on it. Could she have different parents from me? Not a contact was labeled Mom or Dad.

I wondered if I would be able to find anything in the photo gallery. Then the phone automatically switch off the contact list and went there. It had tons of photos of  Angela in this world with other people. I still didn't see any pictures of my parents.... or anyone who could be her parents. Some of the pictures were in front of a large mansion with a woman who was some type of wolf also. She couldn't be my mom. So this could be a caretaker? In the other pictures of this, Angela seemed to be only Misty, his sisters, and his uncle.

There were even a few other people like a man who looked like a pig of some sort and a wolf guy. The wolf seemed to be around both mine and Misty's age. But the pig could be Misty's uncle's age. Then there were various selfie pictures of other humans and animals like zebras. Some were much older like one with a rather older man holding a baby that looked a lot like how I did when I was that age. He wasn't my dad. Who were all of these people? If I doubted that I was in a different world before I wasn't anymore.

This one was much stranger than mine. But if there is one thing I think that's similar. There must be a way to track microchips. Maybe there are places that can do that here. That may be the only chance of finding her.

"Done! See nothing to it, think you can try to do it by yourself next time?" Misty said breaking me out of my concentration as he rested down the bottle of what I assumed was hair spray.

"Um yeah it's really simple, thanks again," I replied.

There was no way I was going to tell him that it was too complicated to remember. He already threw one fit tonight and I was not going to be responsible for the other.

"This may be some of my best work so I want a picture. I'll be back with my phone. Stay here." He said with a satisfied smile before leaving the room. I remained by the window thinking more about my situation. It still didn't make much sense but somehow it is connected with this bracelet. Misty said it was scientific but exactly how did it work? The only one who would truly know is the original owner.

As I was thinking about it I heard voices outside from below. I may not have the best vision but my hearing is highly sensitive. So I focused my ears and strained to hear what there were saying. I heard two deep voices that varied in pitch speak in a hushed tone saying,

Man 1: Are you sure this is worth it?

Man 2: You want to turn down a job from the Doc. Cause just like we took care of that Ram guy, he'll send someone to do the same to you.

Man 1: I know that!

Man 2: Keep your voice down. Now come on we have one more job tonight.

Man 1: Don't we have to take over his assignment

Man 2: No, our orders are to carry on with our original plan.

Man 1: Well I don't see any lake around here Harold

Man 2: Don't use my real name on a mission! We'll find it if we stick to the water trail.

That doesn't sound good at all. As I heard the 2 men ruffle through the bushes as they moved further away. Then I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned to face it, right before hearing a click of a camera.

"Not your best facial expression but I'll add it to my folder of other interesting photos of you," was what Misty said looking down at his phone.

"Misty! Say something when you're coming in next time," was my response. Then I noticed his face didn't look like plastic anymore.

He raised up his eyes to meet mine and answered, "I did, but you were so focused on something outside the window. So I came closer to see what was so captivating out there."

"Two men were out there talking and it sounded very uh, unsettling."

Misty moved closer to look out the window with me and asked, "In what way?"

I replied looking back out the window." Well, it depends on what kind of jobs are done on the lake at night."

I saw the motion of his turning to face me at the side of my eyes when he said, "Hmm... Well, then I say we check it out."

"What, why?" I immediately exclaimed as I faced him in response. He couldn't be serious? But then I heard in his tone of voice that probably matched the smirk he had on in an almost mischievous way.

"Because I'm curious. But let's not tell Uncle. He's asleep and I don't want to bother him again for the night unless it's important. Come on, so let's go."

He already started moving back from the window and going out the bedroom door. He is serious.

"Wait we can't just go after some strange people in the forest at night!" I called after him hoping to be a voice of reason.

That only made him stop long enough to turn around and say, "Come on, where's that sense of adventure of yours?"

Then he ran out of my room with a giggle and I knew there would be no talking him out of it. I can't let him go off alone like that. After all, I was the one with the actual ability to help if something bad happens. But even so, I don't want to go seek it out. UGH!

How did the Angela of this world cope with this guy?

"Wait up!" I yelled against my better judgment and went out of my room after him. Why couldn't this Angela have a cousin who was a bookworm instead of an adventure seeker?
