Reunion (part 1)

Angela's Point Of View;
It was now evening and thankfully I was now back to my former self as the Transformation had ended. When we approached this "Grand Aunt's" home that they spoke so much about on the way here. I had visualized a cottage because of the way uncle described the place as one of their past homes but when we arrived there it was more of a mansion. You could see it from about a half mile away. Was everyone in this family wealthy? It did have a cottage-style roof with the panels on it being an off-brownish colour. But the actual structure of the home was elegant as some of the rooms upstairs looked circular. The lighting in the evening coming through the windows and the lamps around the home made it look almost golden.

I saw more of the home as the gatekeeper let us in after he did a facial scan of us. The plants around the home made it seem calm and welcoming. It must have rained over this place alone because the driveway was wet to the point where you could see your reflection in it. When we came out of the car I saw security guards dressed in dark suits, both humans and animals. They seem to be roving about the property. One of them led us to the front door of the home revealing a woman who looked like a teenager by the way she dressed. She had a black blouse and a pleated green skirt.

But of course, she was not human. I think I saw her in the photos on my phone earlier. But I can't say for sure. My best guess was that she was a grey fox but with a lot of human characteristics. The outline of her ears seemed like she dyed it moss green. Her back-length hair was dyed teal along with her eyebrows and iris. She had a lot of nose piercings along the bridge of her nose and a nose ring of the same colour. You didn't have to be a genius to figure out what her favourite colour is.

"Aunt Sung!" Both Misty and Uncle Alaric exclaimed at the same time.

"Hey, boys! Glad you could make it. Angela girl bring it in!" Anut Sung replied while opening her arms and coming toward me.

Again I'm not a hugger but I let her hug me anyway. Then Uncle Alaric and Misty joined in. It is a family reunion so I should have expected this. So I hugged her back but noticed on her wrist were three wavy teal-coloured lines and the same was true on her tail. After the hug was over I would be lying if I say I wasn't glad when it was over. I did wonder how in the world could she be related to us.

Of course, I'm not going to ask as I already got in trouble for questioning earlier today so I'll just leave this up to the imagination. She looked about the same age as Uncle Alaric. So why would they both call her Aunt or think she's their Grand Aunt?

Misty told me that we called Alaric "our uncle" even though he's our cousin because he's old. So I pictured an aunt that's older or at least acts more mature. But she didn't look or act like that type of person. Her personality was too bubbly and excitable as she asked for all us to take a group selfie with her. I could only see her as an aunt in the literal sense because of her birthright in the family.

"Hey Aunt, what's with all the suits around?" Misty asked while pointing to one of the security scanning the bags in our vehicle.

"Ask Angela, she called like a few weeks ago, all serious sounding. And insisted that for the reunion I get security. She wouldn't stop bothering me until I did. I got in touch with the place she recommended but they like cancelled on me last minute. Luckily one of the service people there put me on to this company. They showed up way in the A.M." Aunt Sung answered as her attention was on her phone as if she was probably posting it online.

"Well, at least it worked out but Angela, why would you want so much security at a family reunion?" Uncle asked me with a raised brow.

"I wish I knew the answer to that Uncle," I said avoiding his gaze because if it were up to me I'd have just skipped the entire occasion if I was worried about safety.

" Nice Filter you used there Aunt. But with Angela it's probably just another one of the weird things she's been doing lately," Misty said dismissively as he got an alert on his phone and started taking selfies himself.

"Thanks, it's a new update. What weird things tough?" Aunt Sung as I realised that they were talking about their postings and me at the same time like I wasn't standing right here.

"Well, she was unusually quiet and distracted when we picked her up at her house. Then the strangeness started from the fishing boat and it hasn't stopped since. Hey Uncle I tagged you," Misty answered as he was now scrolling on his phone.

"You took her on a fishing trip Alaric, Yuck! No wonder! Well, come on in. You're the first to arrive so far and you need to get ready," Aunt Sung said as she lead us in at that point.

"Fishing is a relaxing experience that teaches you patience and-" Uncle Alaric said trying to defend why going fishing was a good idea.

At the same time, Misty shoved my shoulder gently as he said that he was kidding about what he said. I nodded in acknowledgement of it but now my mind was busy forming a conclusion of what I think happened. As they continued talking as we walked down this long hallway I pulled out my phone and checked the connection I had with the other chip. Her location was still the same and had the depth of the ocean where I first came. Though it seemed to have moved more westwards, it still gave no vital signs of life.

This Angela was obviously worried from how Misty just described her when they picked her up. She even saw the need to call her aunt and insist on security at this reunion. From what I have experienced in her life she had a lot of enemies. She must have known she was in danger but what made this time so worrisome? She was confident and a fighter. Did she find out something that she wasn't supposed to that threw her off her game?

The person I've been learning her to be was not to run away. She made plans to secure the reunion for her family, so she did plan on coming. I shudder at the thought that entered my mind. She may be no longer alive and it was her corpse in that location in the ocean.

Oh no, please don't let me have to tell these people that one of their loved ones is dead on the same night as their reunion. And if she wasn't a diary person she must have prepared something for such an occasion.

That could explain how come I showed up here. This bracelet, it's hers and when she disappeared it automatically became mine. If this device could do something like that, there is much more to it than just transformations. I need to have this discussion with Misty. If anyone will know something it's him. Until then I have to be careful like Detective Goodfield said. For him to warn me he can't be that bad of a guy rightAunt Sung got me out of my thoughts when she touched my shoulder.

"Angela, you can use the room on the left upstairs to get ready. You know, the usual one you like. The reunion starts like, in an hour so others will be coming soon. Your suitcase should be there by now anyways. So when you're done go to the hall in the back, cool."

"Yeah OK, thanks Aunt," I replied to her.

"Awesome! But come on girl, flash that trademark smile of yours, didn't you hear your Uncle invited Porker Jordon, and you know who comes along with him girl," She said with a small smirk and excitement in her tone.

"I do? Oh right... yeah sure. Um, where is Misty getting ready?" I had no idea what she meant by that but I switched the topic.

"He went with Alaric on the west wing. Speaking of which I need to finish getting ready. Charles! Is my evening wear back from the dry clearer's yet?!" She walked away now talking to a human man who was probably her butler as he was dressed in a black and white suit. His hair was blond and his complexion was slightly tanned.

"Yes, it just arrived ma'am." He replied while balancing a tray of drinks in one hand and what looked like her dress resting on his forearm that was free. His eyes were blue but he looked more mature in years than Uncle and Aunt did.

"Good, put it in my room. I have to go check with the caters again, then I need you to find a way to get the driveway dry because those power washer people or whatever they call themselves just left it-"

She went on giving more instructions to him. That explained the driveway but I had an issue of my own. I have to find my way upstairs to the room she told me to be in. I was so busy with my thoughts that I hadn't seen where Misty went off. I need to talk to him but the sooner I get dressed the sooner I will be able to roam about for more information.

As expected I did not find the room she was talking about. I was upstairs but exactly where I no longer knew. I didn't even see any security people around. Then I came across a door with a name engraved on it like how mine was in Uncle Alaric's villa. The name was Edger Francis and at the very least someone in there might be able to give me directions.

I knocked on the door twice but no one answered. So I tried the knob thinking maybe the person was asleep. It was locked but the door knob scanned my bracelet causing it to glow then the knob glowed the same way. After I heard an unlocking sound from the door making it swing open inward. The lights automatically turned on in the room. It had something bed-like in it but it looked more like a laboratory. I entered the room and called out even though I had seen no one on the bed asleep.

The lab looked unused for quite a while as there was dust and cobwebs everywhere. Then I noticed near the bed-like chair against the wall had pictures of a man at least in his late 50's in a lab coat with 2 other humans who looked like my parents dressed the same. I was surprised, her parents were scientists. I mean, it made sense but to see both my parents like that was still shocking.

My mom was a housewife and my dad did a lot of odd jobs. Not that there was anything wrong with that but seeing them like that was just new to me. Most of the other pictures were with the man either in his lab coat or dressed normally with a baby that looked like me when I was that age. Did her parents give her up? One picture especially caught my attention since the other pictures didn't have Angela wearing the bracelet.

Although she was a toddler it seemed like that was the first time she got it as she was playing with it as he held it above her. It couldn't fit her wrist yet which was probably why he was doing that.

"Hey, Angela! I should have known you were down here when I didn't find you in your room," I heard the familiar voice of Misty that cause me to jump back.

"Oh well um sure, I uh was just looking at the photos," I answer looking back at the photos.

"Yeah, I know it holds so many memories for you. But ever since he died you never wanted to set foot in this room again. What made you change your mind about coming back in here?"

"W-wait, who died?" What Misty just said caught me off guard that I stuttered slightly.

"You know, him, as in Mr Francis," Misty said pointing to the man in the picture who had Angela as a child. So the owner of this room was him.

"How did he die?" I asked slightly sadden at the news.

"What do you mean how did he die? You already know that and you also hate talking about it," Misty answered in an off-putting tone that I had heard enough from him.

"No, I don't Misty! I don't know and I'm fed up with you telling me what I should know! I've been keeping cool for as long as I can so just tell what happened to him. Why did he take care of Ang- I mean me and not my parents?" Misty was shocked at my outburst but I had it with all of this. He watched me for a moment before he started talking again.

"Your parents died in a lab accident. It was an explosion and he was their workmate and friend. He left early so he wasn't there when it happened and your parents had not too long ago had you so you were adopted by him. Your bracelet was his invention and he made it with you, especially in mind."

"So wait that means, he's Alaric's father who left it in the will for me," I said watching the bracelet on my wrist.

"Yes, and he bought you here to live at first. Alaric once told me that he would spend as much time with you as possible. But when he went missing Uncle Alaric organised everything where you got one of his houses and enough money for a caretaker along with the bracelet. It adjusted to the size of your wrist since you were five and has grown with you ever since," Misty said then exhaling loudly as if he was exhausted about going over such events..

"Wow, so I'm almost like a daughter to him," I said with a lump forming in my throat as someone who was just a family friend would care so much.

"There was a break-in at one of his homes. Not the one you live at because Alaric ended up selling it. Alaric had taken us for the weekend when we were both about that age so we weren't there when it happened. But when we came back the place was in shambles and he was nowhere to be found. Today will make it 7 years so he'll be presumed dead. That's why we're having this family reunion. To remember him. This was his lab and where he created your bracelet," Misty said as he went to a desk drawer and pulled out an electronic tablet. He held it out for me to reach for it and continued talking.

"This was his. And a few weeks ago, you gave it to Aunt and told her to put it back in this room when we visited," But as I reached out for it, he pulled it back from me and added to his statement. "I have a question for you now."

That made me a little anxious because if he were to ask me why I did that I couldn't answer. I hesitated to really answer before I could really respond he started talking again.

"Look, I know this much, you're not Angela. At least not the one I know, so where is she?"

Now that question was even more complicated to answer. But it made me realise that all those times he was observing me just as I had thought. Out of all Angela's family, he seemed to be the closest to her so he would pick up on the subtle differences between us. I didn't want to tell him my suspicions about what likely had happened to his Angela, at least not on this already bittersweet occasion. I cleared my throat as I gathered my thoughts together to answer.

"Look this family seems to have gone through a lot of tragedy and I don't think I should tell you here at this moment." But he was obviously not pleased with my answer as he folded his arms and glared at me seriously.

"It's a trade happening here. You want this tablet you have to tell me where my cousin is. Did you do something to her?" His voice slightly raised as it lost a sense of friendliness that I had never experienced from him before.

"No no no no no I would never. I can honestly say I've never met your Angela I'm just trying to figure out stuff like you," I protested at his accusation immediately.

"Well, I told you what you wanted to know so now I want you to tell me what you know," I sigh in surrender at what he asked of me. I took out my phone to show him the location of where I had traced the Angela he knows. I now had to explain everything I knew and suspected that happened to her.
