Imitation can be Flattering
Angela's Point Of View;
Detective Goodfield nodded in my direction as he walked away with Karla. Then medics soon rushed in blocking them from my sight along with a swarm of police. There was a mix of both humans and animals in uniforms. The police started a search party through the house so they could take all the criminals into custody while the medics helped the guests. Misty's friend whose name escaped me again tapped my shoulder causing me to face him.
"That was.... I've never seen you act like that before. I like it," He said while looking awestruck as if he'd seen something amazing.
"Um OK, thank you. I really need you and Misty to both keep quiet about it," I responded still feeling a little awkward by his remark. You would think they've never seen compassion before.
"We can do that, right Austin," Well, I'm thankful that Misty said Austin's name as he gave him a stern look which Austin just chuckled in returned and agreed. I have to make it a priority to remember Misty's friend is named Austin.
"Hey, I can keep a secret especially if the Great Angela asks me to," he said with a smile and I nodded awkwardly to the compliment.
"By the way, I think that's your dad the medic is moving over there," Misty said pointing to the outside where we could see some of the tables in the yard.
"Really, I have to go check on him, I'll be right back," Austin replied while going off in that direction leaving Misty and I alone.
"Sure take your time though! Angela now that he's gone, I have to tell you what I found out about the bracelet. The Angela I know was working on something. It's an experiment and apparently, it worked when she needed it the most. It even explains why and how you came here," Misty said in a voice soft enough for just me to hear. I wanted him to continue but one of the medics was passing by with a stretcher and told us to move aside.
"We're too out in the open here. Later tonight when things have calmed down I'll tell you the rest. I think it would be best to involve Detective Goodfield in this afterward also. Just to find out how much he knows as well," Misty continued but I wasn't so sure about his last suggestion about the Detective. Angela and him weren't exactly friends so for all we know he could be in on it.
"Are you sure we can trust him?" I asked as softly as I could to match his tone.
"He's our best shot and the only one who will know for sure. Let's give it a chance," Before I could say anything again Austin called us over to where Uncle Alaric was.
We walked out to the yard where and saw Uncle Alaric. He apparently had woken up when the medics tried to move him. He was now sitting upright in a chair with a blanket over him drinking something in a cup. He looked flushed and exhausted. The medic who was a zebra seemed to be taking his blood pressure when we came over.
"How do you feel Uncle?"Misty asked him when we were close enough.
"I feel like a floppy sock that's been run over by a 500-pound tractor," He replied leaning back on the chair making it evident his extreme fatigue.
"Well, ingesting 8 grams of chloroform can do that to you. I'm surprised that you managed to wake up from it so soon. I wouldn't suggest driving anyway tonight for a while," The medic answered reading the blood pressure. I couldn't tell if those numbers were good or not.
"Obviously not, do I still need to come to the hospital though?" Alaric asked after looking at the nu,bers himself.
"Your blood pressure is a little low than normal but that's normal after consuming anything that can cause you to become unconscious. Your other vitals are still weak also but luckily since it's chloroform, you can sleep it off. If you are still experiencing symptoms that appear to get worst when you wake back up then you should come to the hospital," The medic answered while starting to pack up his stuff to move on to check the next person.
"But what if he doesn't wake back up?" That question Misty asked caused me to cringe. But considering what he had just found out earlier today about Angela he would make have him on edge.
"What kind of question is that!" Austin blurted out.
"Hey! It's a logical question, this is chloroform we're dealing with. It literally puts you to sleep and what if he goes to sleep and-" Misty was then interrupted by the medic who had asked the question too.
"Well, you don't have to worry about that. He didn't receive a fatal dose otherwise he wouldn't have gotten up at all. But he did, I'm more concerned with his reaction to the dose that could cause problems so I'm just putting him on alert," I was glad about the medic's reply as it wasn't mean but just overlaid the facts. It stopped what I thought would have been another dumb fight between Misty and Austin.
"Right thanks for explaining it, now does that satisfy your curiosity, Misty" Alaric said as the medic now walked away.
"For now," was all Misty had to say as he folded his arms still with some concern evident in his demeanor. His uncle ruffled his hair in response causing him to smile slightly.
"Good, hey Austin where's your dad?" Alaric asked directing his attention away from Misty.
"They took him to the hospital already along with Ms. Sung also," Austin said sounding a little sad himself.
"Good grief, what even happened? One minute we were all listening to Aunt Sung talk about.... well something and then the next black. But I take it Angela saved the day again," Uncle Alric said holding his head as if he was trying to remember.
"She sure did, she was amazing!" Austin replied with a hint of excitement. it was surprising how this guy can change his emotions so fast in each situation.
"I bet she was. Oh, I see the police around so you were able to work together with Karla to catch the people that did this?" Alaric looked directly at me when he said that. I knew I had to answer but I have to be very careful of how I do it.
"Yes I did, but she couldn't stay as she has a lead to follow on this case. So you'll see her again very soon," I said avoiding his gaze and fiddling with my fingers. Who knows if he believed me or not? I really didn't want him to ask me anything more because I couldn't think of anything else to say that wouldn't break the deal I just made with her.
Austin must have seen my struggle as he changed the topic of conversation. "So I guess we're all staying here overnight then, Alaric?"
"Yeah as you all heard no driving for me for tonight. You guys can tell me later on what happened. I just want to go to sleep and end this day," Alric responded then yawned.
"I think it's best Angela tell you, Austin and I were separated from her most of the time. So it would be good to hear her version of events 'cause we only know the beginning," Misty said as Alric stood up.
Ok, so they're putting it on me to tell Alaric what happened to Karla. I have to find a way to tell him that her presence here is to be kept secret but leave out the latter part. I guess I'll just say the part where Detective Goodfield came in after she shot the bad guy.
Hopefully, I will also soon find out how I ended up here and maybe Detective Goodfield could give me some more background on this Doc person that hates this Angela so much. Boy, this was not how I envisioned my summer vacation. All I wanted was to go on the beach at the very least and instead, I end up fighting for my life... or should I say her life?
Alaric was being helped up to his room by Misty and Austin while I followed behind. The medics and police in the yard started to clear by that point and I was exhausted from the day's events. I doubt I would be able to stay awake to talk with Misty. I still had no idea where my room was. I'll just look for the nearest one on my way following the guys.
Since most people like Aunt Sung and even Charles her butler would be in the hospital it wouldn't matter where I sleep. There are more rooms in the house and fewer people to tell me I'm in the wrong one. When we got upstairs I opened a random door that had a huge bed in it. It was decorated with every shade of purple. My main concern at the moment was just to sleep in it, not how it was furnished. I wanted to shower at least and find something to wear just to go to sleep.
Within 20 minutes I did a quick night routine and then turn off the lights. I dove into the bed too and made myself comfortable. I was almost ready to drift off to sleep when Misty burst into the room. My eyelids had become so heavy that I only knew it was him in the room because of his voice. He turned back on the light which only made me use to pillow to shield me from it. Whatever he had to say will have to wait until tomorrow. I was already half asleep I couldn't really focus or understand what he was saying anyway. I couldn't even think clearly enough too even structure a reply.
Austin's POV;
I heard Misty talking to Angela but the conversation was obviously one-sided. It seemed like he was barely even getting a reply from her. But isn't her room on the opposite wing? Maybe after everything that happened today, all she might probably want to do is sleep than go all the way over there. I went over to where Misty was in the room and tapped him on the shoulder to quiet him down.
"Shhhh! Leave her be, look at her. She's exhausted," I said in a hushed tone.
"But this is my room and she's even wearing my clothes," Misty argued back lowering his voice to match mine. Why must he make everything difficult?
"Listen she saved everyone's life today. Her room is on the far side so just for tonight give her a break OK. There are many other rooms on the floor," I reasoned and he sighed in defeat before responding.
"Fine, I'll stay in one of the guest rooms but just for tonight."
As we walked out of the room and he turned back off the light. We were going towards the guest rooms. At least he didn't fight me on this. I never really had anything against Misty but for some reason, he was always defensive around me. I guess my channel being a rival to his was probably the main one. But I was ok with the guy so I figured the best way to break the silence was to remind Misty of the competition that we enter every year was tomorrow.
"Hey, before you go to sleep I want to talk to you about something," I said walking aside from him.
"I don't know; can't it wait, it's been a really long day and I just want to get to bed," Misty answered in a way that I knew he was brushing me off.
"It will just take a minute to show you what's happening on my phone. You do remember what tomorrow is right?" I hinted hoping to initiate his interest.
"Tomorrow is Wed- wait.... already," He spun his head around to look at me as he now understood what I was talking about.
"Yeah so place your address for any last-minute items for an overnight delivery. Cause we get up early tomorrow?" I said showing my phone screen of the online flyer to him.
"Early is like 10ish right, cause I think 8 is a bit too ambitious for me," He said yawning afterward. I kind of had to agree with him. There was no way I would be up that early on summer break either just for a contest either.
"As long as we get there before 12 you can get up whatever time you like. Then if one of us wins-"
"Correction, you mean when I win"Misty annoyingly interrupted me making me roll my eyes.
"When one of us wins-, no matter who it is. We take Angela and the other one of us along," I finished my sentence ignoring his taunt.
"There is no deal being made here. What happened to the normal high stake challenges that you can actually benefit from?" Misty answered sounding a little confused.
"Cause that's not the purpose this time. Believe it or not what Angela did for Karla really impressed me. I knew how much she didn't like her when it came to your uncle. But she was willing not just to protect her life but even protect her relationship with your uncle. It wasn't about benefits. She- she just wanted to make it easier for her. I want to do that also," I noticed Misty had stopped walking with me side by side halfway through what I was saying.
When I turned around he seemed like he was stunned as Karla was. I didn't know if he was sad or happy as we both just stared at each other in silence for a while. He then broke eye contact and continued walking to meet me.
He just nodded his head in agreement and said goodnight as he went into the nearest guestroom. That was a rather strange reaction from him but it was a tiring day for him both physically and emotionally as he was crying for an unknown reason earlier today. So maybe my not competing with him for any benefits this year was too much to process. Anyway, tomorrow was going to be a new day with new experiences and possibly something to update my blog about also.
Ok so maybe my socials are still a big deal to me but I can't expect myself to change completely overnight. Now which guest room will have the best lighting for a selfie?
