Hyena trouble
Angela's Point Of View;
Misty, the man and I put our hands up as one of the Hyena women was forcing us to put our cards and money in a sack. The other Hyena was making the 2 clerks give them the password for the store's account. Misty was giving me a look showing that I should do something.
But I still felt tired from the night before. Why is this Angela's life so hectic? I sighed in exhaustion but I knew what had to be done. It isn't what I wanted to do, it was what I needed to do. Besides this might be easier for me to handle than talking to a sales clerk anyway.
The bracelet as if it were reading my mind began to glow. In a split second, the transformation was complete and the two robbers noticed. I saw my reflection in one of the mirrors in the store. I had hip-length purple hair with bangs and her outfit looked like it was made out of technical armor as if she came out of a computer game. The glasses and headset attached to it proved that she was a gamer and black biker-style gloves exposed my finger.
"Oh, it's Angela. Just the gal I was hoping to see," said the Hyena who was laughing hysterically.
"No sis, the aim is to get her when she isn't battle ready. I'm not going to get thrown in jail again," the other replied and threw the bag at me, and then both took off to run. I caught it and the one who threw the bag at me slammed into the transparent door before it automatically opened. That must have hurt her badly as I saw her fall down. She was obviously out cold and the other one continued running but stopped to turn around and laughed at her unconscious partner.
"I always knew those Cross-eyes of hers were trouble."Then she ran off, so I guess my job is over. That was a lot faster than I expected. Now all the clerks had to do is call the police to pick up the one on the floor and I can probably get the clerk's attention in this form also. Even though the form I was in didn't seem very muscular, the way she dressed would get anyone's attention. I guess I'll find out what she does from Misty later. But what bothered me, even more, was what she said about getting me when Im not battle ready.
"Wow thank you so much, Angela," said the woman clerk who I was trying to get the attention of earlier. It's so weird that everyone seems to know my well.. her name. It's almost like she's famous or something.
"Yeah, we could never thank you enough," The moose guy said as they both came closer.
"Um that's OK..... but what you can probably do for me is to run a trace on a microchip, please,"I asked with slight hesitation and shyly rubbed my head.
"Angela! What about Fane?" Misty said getting my attention away from the clerks. I gave him a confused look as I didn't know what he was talking about. Seeing that I only gave him a blank expression he continued as he pointed to the transparent door.
"The hyena who got away just a few seconds ago. Hello."
"Oh well, what about her?" I asked realizing what he meant.
"She's loose in the mall, you know these twins. If she didn't get to rob this store she'll find another one. And you clerks should be busy trying to contain the other until the cops get here." He added with the clerks just giving each other embarrassed looks and running over to the other Hyena on the floor.
"But she's long gone now, you want me to search the entire mall for her? She could be anywhere," I argued.
"You don't have to search the mall. Your Techno for crying out loud, run her description in that computer brain of yours and you will pinpoint her location since you're linked to every piece of technology."
"I can do that!" Then that means I can do my own linking to the chip since that is technically technology also. Misty looked at me with his eyes narrowed like he was putting something together in his head. I couldn't worry about what was going on in his head now though, I had to figure out where this Angela was. As I thought about that I randomly took the phone from a display case and told Misty to pay with the card from the bag. I needed him busy while I handled a different issue.
I ran out of the store with the phone giving him no choice but to stay and pay for it. I almost bumped into the mall security that was coming in. I was having a hard time closing in on her signal right outside the store as there was too much interference. So I decided to take the hot air balloon and go further up to the roof. This connection with technology felt so weird as if I could see everything a video camera sees in my head.
It didn't overwhelm me with all the incoming information but it was still a strange feeling. I could rewind and play in real-time multiple videos from different angles while still managing to keep up with it all of them. From the flat roof of the mall where I got a much wider range. I could tune now tune out the cell phones from the few people up here and the entire mall and lock in on Angela's microchip.
I could see the plans in my head so I could know how to connect with it on my phone. I ran through millions of coding and got to see the saved time and the location of the chip's last signal. It appeared to have not moved much in over 24 hours. What worried me is that it showed a decline in vital signs before it went offline right in the location of the ocean I had appeared. Could something of damaged it then or could she be no longer transmitting a signal because she can't?
As I was thinking deeply about what this could mean. The feeds from all the electronics were still coming through when I saw the other Hyena called Fane run out of the mall to a nearby grocery store adjacent to where I was. Since there were security cameras in the grocery store I could easily see what was going on from my view on top of the mall roof.
There was no time to go back down the hot air balloon elevator. So I decided to slide down the smooth walls of the mall hoping to slow my descent. Not my first choice of transport but this was an emergency. In the video feed of the grocery store, I saw Uncle crouched down on the floor with a few other customers. As soon as I reached the ground a familiar voice called out to me with a phone in hand making a video.
"You know we have stairs hero," Misty said as he was gazing at them from the roof as they were all interwoven from open doors on each floor. I didn't think about answering that and continued heading to the grocery store because right now fast action is needed.
I need to think through my approach to this. I don't want anyone getting hurt on my account. By that time I was right outside of the grocery store I sent out an alert to the police who should have been on their way already because of the robbery earlier. But I can't just stand around and wait for them. Even though I'm not good at reasoning or talking with people in general I have to do something. I couldn't turn off the camera feed in my head to ignore what was happening.
The Hyena lady not only was robbing the place at gunpoint but it seemed like she was deliberately hurting others just for the fun of it. She made the cashier give her the store's code to get access to its account. After he gave her it she still knocked him out with the back of the weapon laughing almost uncontrollably. When she gained some composure back she asked one of the customers something that I didn't hear but they nodded no to it. That followed another fit of laughter from her and this time it seemed she was going to pull the trigger. I couldn't just watch this anymore.
"Stop! Wait ma'am you don't have to do this!" I shouted the moment I entered the door. She looked over at me with a half-hearted smile.
"Ma'am! Eww makes me sound old. I thought we would be on a first-name basis by now Angela," I got the feeling that she was serious and I had to play along.
"OK um is it Lane? No, it's Fane, right? You don't have to do this," I really hope that I remembered her name right. I could only assume that I did because she didn't correct me but instead, she laughed mechanically again.
"Save your redemption speech for someone who cares," I tried to move from the door I came in and go closer toward her slowly as I responded.
"Well, it's not so much a speech just a question though. Out of curiosity does doing this make you happy enough to laugh so loudly?" She slammed her fist against the cash register breaking it showing how angry she was.
"You know very well I have a condition! Any more wisecracks out of you about it and the cashier that's currently out cold will never get up again!" She shouted as she pulled the cashier by the collar and started to again. I was beginning to understand that even though she was laughing, this wasn't a laughing matter to her.
"OK OK OK! I didn't mean any harm it's just money you want right," I stopped in my tracks with my hands up showing that I meant no harm. she was now holding the weapon against the cashier's head.
"Money! it's a good by-product to come into this accursed place again. So typical of you Angela to think I'm the bad guy here. All the money I'm taking here is mine that I deserve," I saw uncle also look over at me and I didn't like the look in his eye. The last thing that was needed now was for him to play hero. I shouldn't even be doing this. But to give either of us a chance I had to keep Fane distracted.
"Why do you think that?" I asked looking back to her as uncle slowly moved closer to where she was.
"Don't act like you care 'cause you're just like all the rest..." she moved the weapons from the cashier's head and went through a short fit of laughter.
Then she continued, " The rest of them. You're only even bothering to ask me cause I have all these people's lives in my hand. Like you would know how it feels to be shunned and cheated in life by everything because you're different. Cause that's all they see, nothing else. So you have to make a scene to be acknowledged and that's what I intend to do."
"Wait! I know how that feels Fane. If I wasn't like this superhero celebrity no one would notice me either. I would just be one in the crowd in the background, an extra who you wouldn't notice. No one ever really notices things that aren't dramatic or loud. You're laugh made you different but it didn't make you a bad person. What you're doing here does?" What I said was out of character and I knew it. But this was the only way I knew how to reason with her. I tried to come a little closer to her as she stared at me dumbfounded for a while. But then she shook her head from her thoughts and got back that angry look in her eyes as she pushed the cashier away.
"You must have read that in a brochure or something cause even I know you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth. So enough talk while I teach you true pain!"
She threw a full grocery bag at me and it did hit me sending me to the fall. The other customers and cashiers all ran out of the store except the one who was still on the ground. She lunged for Uncle stopping him from coming over to me when I was still on the floor. She roughly pulled him back by his shirt and held the weapon near his head. Then she had a laughing fit again before she started talking. I began to notice that when she laughs, she points the gun away from herself and takes her hand off the trigger. I had gotten up but she knew I wouldn't do anything rash with uncle so near to her.
"Alright Angela, I want you to see this with your own two eyes how you're uncle gets- Ow!"
I was watching from at least 4 feet away across from her when Uncle managed to get out of her grip by elbowing her in the ribs. It caught her off guard and I ran towards her from behind. In the middle of a next laughing fit, she fired the weapon at him but that also meant she didn't see me coming. She missed because of both her laughing and me using my body weight to knock her off her feet and pinning her face down to the ground.
The weapon was no longer in her hand because she let go of it when she laughed. She was clearly very angry now but still couldn't help but laugh. Honestly, I felt sorry for her because her laughter only covered sadness and bitterness. I knew what it was like to be bitter because of your lot in life and people including your own family feeling you were less than them because of it. But Fane had a sister and I hope she would one day see the value of having each other and it would be enough.
As I kept both her hands and feet pinned to the ground Uncle came back to see. "Nice work Angela."
"Thanks, Uncle," I responded as I tried to keep Fane from breaking free. This transformation wasn't very strong so I had to use my entire body weight. I think the technological gear I had on made up most of my weight.
"The police should be here any time soon. I'll go see if I could revive the poor guy on the floor. He's in for one monster headache though, but nothing some ice can't fix," Uncle said going over to the guy.
"Yeah... I wish it could fix Fane though," I said below my breath.
I heard from Fane a huffing sound and a sigh before she started laughing again. I could feel Uncle Alaric's eyes narrowing on me as Misty's did earlier. I guess he heard me but was my showing sympathy to Fane so out of this Angela's character? I guess we are a lot more different than I thought.
"I may go to jail but your troubles are just beginning," Is what Fane said to me as she continued struggling to break free.
