Encounter

Angela's Point Of View;

"Why do I look like this? How on earth is this even supposed to get us over there to that ship?"I said out loud as I looked at the ship all the way across the lake and also saw my reflection.

"You can see the ship, cool I forgot that you have night vision in this form." I could hear a smile in Misty's tone with his reply. You would think that was his plan from the beginning.

"A ton of good that does us, cats hate water you know," I responded showing disregarded for what he said.

"You're not a cat, you're a cheetah and that is very prejudiced to say against cats. We were raised better than that." Misty answered me firmly.

The way he said that made me feel like I had just been scolded by my mom for saying something unkind. That rarely ever happened because I usually said nothing and since when was saying cats hate water prejudiced? Was he a cat person? Now was probably not the right time to inquire more.

"Oh um sorry I didn't mean anything by it. But how am I expected to swim all the way over there like this?" Misty huffed as first to acknowledge my apology then his response followed.

"Haven't you ever picked up a history book? She is the first scientist to fuse animal and human DNA successfully. But I'm sure your bracelet has managed to increase the abilities of this specific species."

"Well, what exactly do cheetahs do?" I asked as I hoped he would assume that I did understand what he just told me.

Misty gave me a 'are you serious?' look on his face and then sighed. I just awkwardly smiled cause I really didn't know. Then he went on to explain to me that with this specific transformation, I have the ability to run as fast as I want and the clothes made it even more possible with less resistance. My legs which were also string and muscular gave me great jumping ability. And because my feet are bare and catlike, I could then land softly without a sound as it would be muffled as a cat's landing usually is. I didn't know a cat could be so useful considering I was not so much of an animal person.

But that is how we would have to get onto the boat. I started stepping backward in the same way Misty did earlier. I wonder if I run fast enough if I would be able to run on the actual water. Then in a runner's position, I took off in a sprint. The mommet I continued off the dock but I felt someone throw themself and hold on to me. I knew who that was also and it was like I was giving him a piggyback ride. The good thing is that I kept up the same speed despite the extra weight so I could run on the surface of the water. So I guess it wasn't just something you just saw in movies. This was a pretty cool ability and the thrill of it was exhilarating.

On our way getting closer to the large boat, I noticed a large container marked Petroleum on it being dumped. Isn't that toxic to the environment? When I got close enough to the boat I used the side of the boat as a launching pad to jump upwards into the ship. Then we landed on the wooden ship floor softly. Misty got down off of my back and I looked around and saw that this ship was similar to one used to transport cargo. It had barrels of stuff on the deck with large boxes covered with black tarps. So they took a speed boat out to a cargo ship on a lake? But we couldn't just stand here in the open so we went to hide behind the crates to stay out of sight.

As soon as we did that I heard the voice of the 2 men, one of the voices that did recognize from earlier from the window and the other I didn't. They came into view from the other side and I saw a fox species of some sort. He wore black-framed squared glasses and had on a long sleeve shirt brigade shirt with blue jeans. He had all the features of a red fox but he was humanlike in the fact that he could talk and stand upright. He sounded really scared or distressed about the human man that followed him.

"Ok you promised if I help you dump this stuff you would let my daughter go. I'm not doing anything more until I hear her voice and know that she's alive." The fox said.

The large human man towered over the fox but his back faced us so I couldn't see his face. Other than being tall he had brownish hair like mines at present. He wore a short-sleeved shirt that imprinted his already large muscles along with dark jeans pants.

"Look man, I don't call the shots, the Doc does." He responded to the fox.

The fox though nervous gave him a firm stare. But he was ignored by the large human man as his phone beeped. The man seemed to have gotten a text message. As he put the phone away I heard him say, "Alright Jimmy, a deal a deal."

After saying that he took the fox guy up holding his arms at his side. The fox struggled but he was like a helpless rattle in that position.

"Thanks for your service." The man said as he threw him overboard. Then he waved at the guy he threw as the boat began to move.

"We can't just sit here and let that guy drown. You have to do something now." Misty whispered to me.

He was right apparently this Angela had a lot of responsibility and until she's back it's mine. So I told Misty to stay out of sight while I dived overboard after the guy. I didn't see him on the surface so he must be like me and was sinking. That water would usually be cold but I didn't feel it when I went after him. After I got him and increased in speed through the water to return to the surface quickly.

I reached the dock again with the fox as he was still coughing up water. I put him to sit down on the dock and pat him on the back. He was trying to talk to me but I couldn't tell what he said. With all the coughing what he said didn't come out very clearly but I shook it off. I tried to get my message to him so that when he was well enough to continue on the path to "my uncle's" house. I also said to him that I would see if I could find his daughter since it seemed like something a hero like Angela would do.

The rain had begun to drizzle and even though I didn't want to leave him in this condition, I couldn't leave Misty alone for so long among people like that.

As I was leaving the fox grabbed my hand and again was trying to say something. But I didn't have time to clarify it. It sounded like he said "I'm glad you're alive" but I couldn't dwell on it right now.

So I repeated myself telling him to let "my uncle" know where we are. Then I ran back to the boat on the water and as I landed on the boat silently I was back to being human me.

What a rotten time for this to happen. I could barely see and I still didn't know where Misty was. Why didn't he stay in the same spot as I told him to? Then I felt a hand on my shoulder that I turned and had to look up to. Misty was not that tall so I tried to pull away but he was stronger. He now held me in place by my shoulder blade and I heard the voice of another one that I recognized outside my window.

"So you're the one that got away. You're not so tough. I knew when we caught that mouthy brat cousin of yours you wouldn't have been far behind."
