Bring out the Beast in me
Angela's Point Of View;
I can't believe I'm outside in the cold at night with a guy who claims to be my cousin. I'm breaking all of the rules that keep you from doing dumb things. I had hoped that the noise Misty made as we came out would grab someone's attention out of the house.
But I had heard snoring from his uncle's room and the other human-like animals who were supposed to be working were nowhere to be found. Where did they disappear to? I knew the villa was big but it felt empty. Now I'm going into the forest looking for a lake without my glasses at night. I could see the outlines of things but no details in the slight moonlight.
This forest was certainly different from what I knew them to be. The leaves of the trees were brightly colored orange mixed with yellow as though it was autumn. We followed a river-like trail through them. You could hear it flowing as it was like a snake pass winding through the trees. This water had to lead somewhere but could it really go to a lake?
"Are you sure we're going the right way? Even if there was a lake here, what does it matter?" I asked as I followed near behind Misty.
"Of course, it matters, this is private property and their trespassing- Careful that's poison ivy." He answered as I saw him hold out his hand and stopped me from walking.
I squinted as I looked down but could only see that it was a reddish plant. I had never been in contact with poison Ivy before so I would just have to take his word for it. He then took my hand and put it on his shoulder as he walked around it. It was a good idea cause if there was another of those plants I wouldn't be able to see him shuffle out of the way.
"Your uncle owns the land that the house is on. Not the entire forest... does he?" I said to continue the conversation cause I still hope he would want to turn back.
"First of all, uncle will never just buy a house without the rest of the land. He's a go-big or go-home kind of guy. And second, he's your uncle too!" Misty answered in a tone that I think expressed his surety of what he believed of his uncle. But the last part sounded like he was a little upset. In truth, I barely knew the man he called uncle but I have to play along and maybe now is a good time to find out just how we were supposedly related.
"Right, remind me of our relation again?"
Misty chuckled a bit and then said, "You're always so technical. But you know he's a cousin on our grandfather's side. That was just as confusing as what he told me about how we were related.
"Wait wouldn't that make him our cousin and not an uncle?" I answered with a question.
I felt Misty's shoulders shrug as he said, "Yeah but he's old, so uncle just seems more his speed. You know this never really mattered to you before, so why now?"
Well, it seems that I had to back off on the questioning for now. "Oh um... it's nothing, I just wanted to understand our family ties. So he likes to be called just uncle and not use his first name right?"
"You could but Uncle Alaric is just too much to say. He knows who we're talking to when we just say 'uncle' anyway," Misty answered.
Well, at least I got some information from it cause he was just known as uncle on 'her' contact list. Misty keeps talking to me as if I should know about stuff like this already. And of course, he would, since he thinks we've known each other our whole lives. I have to be kind of careful when I'm talking to him.
I need to find out where this world's Angela could be. I need to be more careful otherwise it will only be a matter of time before they figure out I'm not her. And I don't have any explanation of what exactly happened to her so it would only make things more complicated. Or worse, what if they still think I'm her but believe I have a few screws loose. I can't say anything to them yet so I have to stay in character until then. Maybe I should start calling Alaric, uncle. But for now, I'll change the topic.
"So you think he owns the lake too?" I asked breaking the silence that had fallen between us.
"Think? I'm sure of it," He answered in a cocky tone.
I nodded even though his back face me. "Look, let's say you're right but how about we go back to the cabin now and let him deal with it? I can barely see out here and-"
"Shhhh Listen," Misty then cut me off mid-sentence.
As I stayed quiet we heard an engine start over the flowing sound of the river. We followed the sound of it and it lead to a huge open space. There really was a lake and it was so vastly wide that you couldn't even see the other side of it from where we stood. Well, I couldn't really see anything without my glasses. We approached the dock that was wooden and very fancy. It had its own lights on the railings and I think it had a little tent-like structure at the edge of it.
"See I told you he would own it, Why else would he personalize it like this?" Misty said.
From what I could tell as we walked along the dock and came closer to the tent-like structure was a comfy place to sit. It was more of a shelter to rest and wait for a boat. This uncle that I'm supposedly related to must be some kind of millionaire. I must remember to ask him what he does to be living so extravagantly. I let go of Misty's shoulder as we reached the end of the dock and I tried to make out the things around me.
"They must have taken one of his speedboats out to a ship there. You may not be able to see it clearly but I can. So we have to get there before they sail too far away." Misty said as he went more to the edge.
I saw him point but I really couldn't tell what he was pointing to on the open sea. But I could ask a question about what he said. "Well, are there any other speedboats here?"
"No, I don't think the others got delivered yet, and even if there were it would be too noisy. So you have to use your bracelet," He answered.
That was his solution to the problem. He of all people should be terrified to even go near water again considering that whole shark incident from earlier today. Besides, I don't think I have the hang of this whole bracelet thing.
"Right... um like Uncle said I think I can only make it work during emergencies. I know the water girl could come in handy right now but-"
"That's what you're calling that transformation now? I liked the other name better." Misty cut me off again and I have to say that I wasn't a fan of it. He was more interested in the name of the transformation than what I was telling him.
"Well, what did I call her before then?" I said with emphasis and slight annoyance and proabaly being slightly irritated himself he crossed his arms.
"Sea Master, you called her that because the scientist who discovered how to use sound waves to manipulate the abilities of water said she mastered aquaticnomics."
"I said that? Oh yeah.... sure of course." I nervously laughed as I remembered that I had to stay in character. "But I still don't know how to activate it on command," I continued.
"Well if that is going to be your excuse I have an idea to help you activate it." Misty then unfolded his arms and seemed amused.
Then he immediately sprinted back down the dock and into the forest. Then he came back with what looked like a log and a plank. I wonder where he got the plank from? He placed the things in such a way that it resembled a seesaw and then he told me to stand on one end. I did not know what to expect as this whole plan was making me even more nervous.
"How is this going to help?" I asked as he backed away.
"You'll see," he said in a playful tone while still walking backward.
He had backed away some distance at the start of the dock and started running rapidly towards me. Was he trying to scare me? I was seeing him better as he ran up closer but what I wasn't expecting is that he jumped on the end of the board that was facing him.
The effect of that was it sent me in the air and because of the position of the board, I flew straight into the lake. This guy must be insane to do something like that! As I splashed into the water I couldn't get upright. I didn't know how to swim and this water was so deep. I couldn't see anything at all and I felt like I was sinking. The bracelet thankfully started to glow again. A transformation was taking place. Then after it settled down I managed to get upright and stop sinking. On instinct, I started to use my arms to cut through the force of the water and jumped out onto the dock.
I coughed up water as I landed on all fours. Forget trying to blend into this Angela's life. I was fuming at Misty for doing something so dangerous like that.
"Misty! Are you nuts? I could have drowned!" I exclaimed.
"But you didn't,"Misty who was standing in front of me answered in a relaxed voice that only annoyed me more.
"That's not the point!" I yelled as I clenched my fist and slammed it against the ground to rise.
"Ok relax sheesh at least you know how it feels now. You did it to me earlier today before we set out on the fishing trip and lots of times before that. If you don't like it that much then how about we agree to not do it to each other at all?" Misty responded to me still in a steady tone.
His words stopped me in my tracks, reminding me that I'm portraying someone else here who probably would be a bit more easygoing than me. This isn't fair of me to take her place like this. I should find a way to properly tell them so that at least they can look for her themselves. I nodded yes to his question and turned to face back to the lake. As I let myself look down and realized that I could actually my reflection. I saw that I wasn't the water girl anymore.
I had brown hair with an off-brown fur coat that was covered in spots instead of skin. I was almost catlike and my vision was a hundred times better. My eyes were Hazel and wide and my hair was up in a ponytail with a purple ribbon. And what in the world was I wearing? It looked like one of those exercise suits I see some fitness girls wear. The top itself was a light purple than the hair band revealing my stomach which was now covered in fur and muscular. The shorts were above knee height and the same dark purple as the hair tie. That was it not even shoes, though I think wouldn't have mattered because my feet were also catlike.
