Chapter 23
He smirked then carefully turned them around so he was backing the place where Toby was seated and Melanie was facing him.
He was right.
There was a lot of emotions passing through his face but the only one that was prominent was Anger.
Melanie shivered, she wasn't sure if it was anger at her dancing with a Vincent or another thing entirely. He slowly looked up, meeting her eyes and she gulped, now she was sure he was angry at her. The whole purpose for doing what she did was to make him jealous not angry.
She forced her herself to look away and gently nudged Vincent to turn her around, he smirked and she glared at him. Gently turning her back around she made sure to pinch his bicep hard and made a satisfied sigh when he let out a whimper.
"Hey, I was only trying to help you out, don't hurt me." He whined and pouted but she could see he was enjoying himself.
They danced for awhile and she was already losing herself in the dance, forgetting about one mysterious ocean eyed man who was taking over her mind when she felt Vincent stiffen against her, she looked up at him to see his eyes set on something above her head. She shook him but he only let out a 'huh'. Removing his hands from her waists, she turned to look at what was taking his attention and came face to face with a broad chest.
Recognizing the colour of the shirt she looked up to a Toby glaring over her Head. The two guys were having a staring contest and she felt bad for distracting them but she had to, she hated being ignored.
"Ahem." She coughed and Toby looked down at her, his eyes softening a little and hardening back. He grabbed her hand a little harder than necessary.
"Would you like to dance the next dance with me." He asked through gritted teeth. Melanie opened her mouth but was cut off by Vincent.
"Hello old friend, how has been your life?" He directed the question to Toby who looked like he was about to strangle someone. "Fine." He answered shortly which made Vincent chuckled, then his eyes looked sad all of a sudden. He looked at Toby with was could be described as pity and sighed.
"I heard about your wife, I'm sorry." He said looking down. Melanie whipped her head to look at Toby fast enough to catch the pain that flashed in his eyes. It was gone just as fast as it came.
He was married?
He nodded, tightening his fist which held Melanie, she let out a small whimper catching Vincent's attention.
He nodded towards Melanie.
"Loosen your grip, will you. You're hurting her." Toby quickly released her hand and grabbed it back lightly.
"Yeah sure." He said and moved to go, dragging Melanie with him but was stopped by Vincent.
"Don't hurt her Toby, she's a rare kind." He said it like it was an advice but there was a kind of warning in his tone which made a muscle in Toby's jaw twitch.
"I wasn't planning to." He said, slightly pulling Melanie close to him which made Vincent smirk.
"Good."

The dance floor was packed and there was barely and space causing Melanie to bump into people as Toby pulled her along. There was less people close to the bar where she and Vincent were dancing earlier so they didn't really bump into people but Toby kept pulling her deeper into the club. She tugged on his hand hoping he would wait but he didn't. Instead, he held her tighter and walked faster.
It was easier for him to walk since all he did was shove people who were standing in his way but she couldn't because with her short height and small body they'd probably not move an inch.
They reached the back door which was only used by staffs or during emergencies because not many people knew about it and Toby released her hand and brought out a key which he used to unlock the door.
Melanie gaped at him.
"H-how did you-" she was cut off when he grabbed her hand and they both went out through the door. She was momentarily distracted with the cold fresh hair and inhaled. It was dark already but the moon wasn't out yet.
She took her surroundings and saw that everywhere was deserted. There was a road and after the road was a thick forest which looked eerily dangerous, she took a step back and shivered which Toby noticed. He pulled her along to the front of the club where His car was parked.
He gestured for her to enter to which she hesitated, thinking of the last time she was in his car.
"What? So you can throw me out of your car again? Thanks but no thanks." She spat, already getting riled up at his audacity.
He scoffed.
"So that's it?."
She looked up, confused at what he meant. "What?."
"That's why you decided to whore around with that fucker knowing he is literally my worst enemy and would do anything to put me down?"
"Why do you care? And last time I checked, I still have the full right to talk to anyone I want to so go fuck yourself asshole." She turned and was stopped by him.
"Look here, I don't give a fuck who you spend your time with but I didn't just pay a huge sum of money to some kidnappers only to have you fraternizing with my arch enemy."
"I don't remember asking you to pay."
"Oh, but your uncle did." He said hauntingly.
"Then go face him not me. As it is I'd rather spend the rest of my life with those kidnapers than spend one more minute with you." That hurt him more than she knew.
"That's fine. Would you like me to return you to them and have my money back?" He asked.
"You are married?" She stated. The same pain from earlier crossed his face.
He must really love her then.
She felt her heart ache at that thought.
"Did she leave you?" She asked quietly.
"Why are you changing the topic?" He asked looking away. They were both silent for a while and she saw it for the first time since she has known him. His defence broke down and the pain he had been hiding showed for more than just a second. She didn't imagine it. Without thinking, she placed her hand on his, her only little sorry.
"Yes." He answered. Then his defence was back up again. He removed his hand from underneath hers and entered into his car, driving off and leaving her standing in the same spot.
"Well, a asshole in pain is still a asshole." She shook her head not offended at his act but rather determined to know the root of all his problem. He was rude and insufferable because of what happened to him. Who was that girl that hurt him so much. She felt herself getting jealous for no reason.
Was it the same girl in her dreams?
♨♨♨♨♨
Likey?
