Vasisht drove back in the pitch dark, a strange silence engulfing the atmosphere. Random questions ran in his mind, with no possible answers he could decipher.

Was it because of his distracted mind, he couldn't tell, when he almost ran his vehicle on the person in front.

Thanks to the almighty, he stopped on time.
"Sanvi? Is that you?"
He got down from the car to spot on of his close friend's wife, not in a very pleasing appeal.

"Vasisht sir, I've lost my way coming back from the local bus, could you please allow me to stay in your residence tonight?"

"I could... drop you to your house.."

"No... I want to discuss something important with you. Please..."

"Alright."

He drove, time and again glancing at the lady next to him. She stared ahead and her sight seemed beyond. And he seemed to notice a drop of tear just brimming from her right eye.

"You're alright?" He asked. She simply nodded.

Vasisht settled himself on the couch opposite to the sofa Sanvi sat on. He looked at her sipping her coffee, silently, lost.

"You said you want to say something important..." he intervened.
She cleared her throat, keeping the cup below.

"My husband, Surya, did he smoke or drink before marriage?"
He straightened. "No... no.... he never did... why?"

"Lately he's developed this addictions. He comes home late, smokes two packs of cigarettes a day and can't sleep without drinking... He's started blaming me for everything now,...as if he...he..hates me....as if...I'm a burden to him now..."

Vasisht took a deep breath. "Since when?"

"Since two months...he had gone to his native..and when he was back, he was no more my old Surya..."

"Did something happen in his native?"

"I don't know... he doesn't share anything now..."

He rubbed his nape, and stood.

She stood too, "I don't want to go to my house now...because I'm...I'm...afraid...he'll.."

Vasisht gave a gentle smile. "Donot worry. You stay here. I'll speak with him tomorrow."
