The morning seemed usual, he made his boring, yet inevitable breakfast, bread with jam and gulped it in a go.
Checking his house was locked, he stepped in his car and drove his way to a 15km far hospital.
The parking slot was dim as usual, and he was sick of it. He never liked darkness, neither for his sight, nor for his life. A walk from the parking to the main building consumed legit 5 minutes. That is when he had realised how long '5 minutes' actually was.
Dr. Vasisht K.P, his name caught his eyes on the yellow pages of the register and he signed. Obliviously, he turned two pages backward, only to find an unusual blank next to her name.
The distinct fragrance of sanitizers filled him. People of different cultures, religion, financial status were seated together, some anxious, some nervous and some upset. The usual sight.
As he walked through the corridor with chain of thoughts running in his mind, he glanced through the gynaecology department. All were there, except her.
He never knew her presence had started mattering to him, nobody else's did.
He sighed as he cleansed his hands before entering the NICU. Little bundles of lives kept in incubators, that was quite disheartening. His nurses and colleagues greeted him, some with genuine heart and some with sly ones. But he never bothered.
He checked one little baby which began wailing. Taking it carefully in his arms, he cradled it and caressed its tiny hairless head.
"Deepti, I think she is alright now. She is having milk without any issues. We can discharge her. Please call her parents." He instructed to one of his staffs.
Dr. Vasisht, a very efficient neonatologist had finished his fellowship in Canada and returned to India eight months back. He was warmly welcomed in the same hospital he worked for before, with increased respect and love.
"Sir, Dr. Arundhati has arrived now. You said you wanted to ask regarding...."
"Yes, yes... I remember. Thank you."
He never knew why he felt this unknown fear again. His heart beat faster and he began to feel warmer.
He walked to her chamber and knocked before entering.
She set her laptop before attending to him.
"Yes sir?"
"Doctor, I wanted the report of Kavitha's baby, the one you delivered yesterday. He seems to have a slight shade of jaundice."
She nodded and handed him the file.
He left the chamber as he read her name plate on the door,
"Dr. Arundhati D
Asst. Professor, Gynaecology"
Such was his day. Monotonous, yet exciting. A decent shelter, three meals a day, a good earning, and a place where people respected him, what more could he ask for?
But he did. His heart longed for something. Something above the materialistic peace. Something more precious than his life.
He smiled and took a little bite of his sandwich. His eyes set upon the lady two tables away.
She quietly ate, her face showing no shade. Nether did she speak to people, nor entertain herself in a way any other introvert did.
She seemed plain, with a mixture of infinite elements.
She lifted her pupils to meet his and he quickly blinked.
His heart then jumped with joy seeing it. Seeing her ethereal smile.
I first of all thank you for showering such love on Bound in Love. But all that begins need to end. We are almost at it.
I had a plot in mind since long and now I've brought it here. Hope you'll show the same love for this trial as well!
Also introducing,
Dr. Vasisht
Dr. Arundhati
The updates will be as small as this one.
