Chapter 5

AN: Haylie at the top. She will be introduced in this chapter so don't worry if you don't know who she is lmao.

Liza's POV

I walked behind the operators who were talking into their headsets as I tried to peek over their shoulders at the small screens on their desks in front of them where they were seeing a first person perspective on whoever's mind they were talking into.

Talk about being high-tech.

"Come on Carol, you know you want to buy the Fifty Shades of Gray trilogy, you know this, I know this, your unused vagina even knows this. You go to church almost everyday and it's been five years since he's left you, no one will know or care what you're going to read late at night. Just give in to the simple pleasure a real man can't give." One of the operaters persuaded into her microphone, intwining her fingers together and resting her elbows on the desk as I looked at the screen in front of her where a pair of shakey female hands were hesitantly reaching out for a few books on the shelves.

"May I help you miss?" The demon lady with the headset said, covering her microphone, turning in her swivel chair to raise her brow at me making me realize I was gawking at the screen with wide eyes and practically breathing down her neck behind her.

"Oh, no sorry I just-" I began, immediatly backing up a few steps to give her some space before I heard a familiar voice that made my blood go cold at the sound.

"Go ahead, no one will know if you take one cookie. So what you threw those veggies out, I say good ridance. I think you deserve a little treat don't you?" The chubby man a few chairs away chuckled, leaning back in his seat as he smirked at the screen and ate his sugar powdered donut.

I slowly turned to look at him, my eye practically twitching at his nasty persuasive voice.

I know that voice.

I left the demon woman and stalked over to the overweight man in anger, grabbing the back of his chair almost making him fall back as I swung him around adruptly until we were face to face.

"Aye lady, the fuck's your problem!?" He snapped, almost choking on his donut as he took off his headset in anger.

"Fresno, California. January 12, 2004. I was at my grandma's house and she was making a big double fudge chocolate cake for my dad's birthday." I grit out, glaring at the pudgy man in annoyance as he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.

"Oh now wait a minute...." He began, squinting up at my face before his eyes widened in realization and he let out a laugh that made his triple chin jiggle, almost distracting me for a moment.

"You're cry baby Liza, hey everyone, it's cry baby Liza!" He announced with joy as if we were long life friends before all the operators looked up from their desks, covering their microphones with their hand and waving and smiling at me.

"The only reason I cried was because you convinced me to eat and ruin my grandma's chocolate cake! I got scolded and hit with my mom's sandal because of you!" I yelled at him, making him sink into his seat with my loud voice.

"Aw come on, it was my job... still is actually." He chuckled, not looking the least bit bothered as he gave me a careless shrug.

I opened my mouth, ready to lecture his large sweaty head off before I heard the word "carve" on the Psychotic section at the side of the room further down.

I looked up, straightening my posture and turning my head to the direction of that voice, letting go of the chair and walking over to another man, this one skinny and tall as he leaned forward in his seat and laughed a low cynical chuckle.

"Do it you worthless piece of shit, this is who you are. Stop trying to be good, trying to be something you're not. Who are you trying to fool? Did you really think you could stop yourself, that you could actually change? And for what- some girl who doesn't even love you back? You need this, you crave for this. Fucking kill her already!" He yelled into the microphone, his voice intense and harsh as my eyes widened when I saw the name above the screen.

Psycho Harry.

I advanced forward, ready to intervene only for someone else to beat me to it, a quirky looking girl with dark brown hair and big blue eyes that were framed by large bulky perscription glasses.

She even had an uncanny resemblance to Zooey Deschanel from that show New Girl.

Love her.....

She was wearing a large sweater and a flowy polka dot skirt as she lowered her head and told the man who was speaking into Psycho Harry's head something, his back straightening in alarm as he took his head set off and discarded it on the desk.

"They can't just tow my fucking car! That's my fucking parking spot!" He exclaimed in anger, immediatly darting out of his chair, running passed me before I jut my foot out, making him trip and slam into another worker with a tray of coffee, spilling it all over him.

I laughed, debating whether or not to follow him into the parking lot and beat the shit out of him for talking to the Psycho like that before I heard that girl's soft soothing voice behind me.

I looked back, shifting to the side behind her where she wouldn't see me as the girl with dark hair sat herself down onto the empty seat, situating the headset onto her head as she looked down at the screen in concern, my body stiffening as well when I saw that Psycho Harry had his large hands wrapped around a naked woman's body underneath him who was coming in and out of consciousness.

"Harry, hey Harry it's me." The demon girl said in a voice that suggested this wasn't the first time she's spoken with him.

I tried to lean in to listen to his voice through the headset, realizing I had super hypersensitive hearing where I could hear his voice and hers as they began to converse.

"H-hailey?" I heard Psycho Harry stutter, his voice echoing as I watched his hands loosen his hold on the poor woman's neck on the screen ever so slightly.

"Yeah it's me buddy. So..... whatchyou doin there... That girl doesn't look very comfortable." She trailed off, her words coming out slow and cautious but her tone casual as she placed her small chin in the palm of her hand.

"H-hailey I'm scared. God I'm so fucking scared." Psycho Harry's voice wavered on the other side.

"I know, I know." Hailey comforted from the other side, a sad look on her face as she readjusted the microphone.

"You're a good person Harry-"

"No I'm not. I'm fucking not- you heard what the other voice in my head told me and it was all fucking true-"

"It's not true you arse now don't cut me off. Now I'm going to need you to let go of that nice lady's neck okay, I know you can do that." Hailey interjected with a light laugh, trying to ease the tension as I held my breath and watched as Psycho Harry's hands shook around the girl's neck he was crushing, her eyes rolling to the back of her head as her hands grabbing at his wrists began to go limb.

"Harry listen to me. You need to let go of her neck like.... right now. The other voice is gone, I'm here, I won't let anyone yell at you I promise. Just please." Hailey said, a voice a little sterner this time before I heard him let out a shakey sigh, his hands slipping away from the woman's neck as she immediatly took in a large gasp for air, falling back onto the bed.

"I had sex with her..." I heard Psycho Harry say in a breathless voice.

"Yes, yes I see that." Hailey said, letting out a sigh of relief.

"And then I- I had the urges again..." He explained, the screen showing that he was now looking at his shaking hands in front of him, a tear drop falling onto his calloused skin.

"It's okay to cry. Remember who you love, think of Liza. She would be so proud of you." Hailey reminded him, a sad sympathetic look on her face as she hesitantly reached out and touched the screen, looking as if she was touching Psycho Harry's hand itself with hers before she frowned.

"Can I tell you something Hailes." I heard Psycho Harry swallow, watching as he backed away from the bed on the screen and pressed himself into the corner of the room, away from the passed out woman on the bed as he sunk to the floor while we watched everything from his eyes.

"Sure my carver. What's on your mind asides from me, cause my voice is literally like inside your mind right now." She said in a soft teasing voice as I melted at the way she looked at the screen, her eyes filled with admiration and love.

"Sometimes... I think about you when- when these things happen. I missed your voice, you're the only voice in my head that I love to hear and I hate it because- because you're not real to others but you're real to me. I missed your voice so much." Psycho broke down, crying into his knees as Hailey's
jaw dropped slightly, her own eyes watering as she leaned even closer to the screen.

"I promise you Harry, I will do everything in my power to make sure they won't yell at you again. I'll make them go away." She promised, wiping at her tears trying to steady her shaking voice as she kept her hand at the screen.

"I'd rather have them as long as you're still in my head. There were times where I even had an urge to inflict
pain on Liza but you were the one who always stopped me and reminded me. You're a good voice and I want you to stay. I still remember when I was a kid and you got me into pumpkin carving... like actual pumpkins and everything was fine. But then the other voices came in and it all went downhill, and you started to fade away." Psycho said in a broken voice as Hailey let a small smile appear on her face.

"I'm sorry for fading away... But I'm
here now and I will protect you." She said, her voice so soft that I had to take a step closer to her from behind to hear her right.

"I should've fucking known." The man who had been yelling at Psycho Harry a few moments ago returned, his voice cold and laced with disgust as he gave Haylie a patronizing look making her take the headset off as she glared at him and held her ground while I stayed hidden in the back.

"This is exactly why you were fired from this position. You became too attached and now look at you. You're supposed to be his demon in his mind, not his fucking conscience." He sneered at her, catching everyone's attention as they stood and glared at one another.

"Seriously Devon that's enough. Just give the poor kid a break alright. He's already trying to fight it and if I'm not wrong, rule number 24367 in the manual says we can't intervene if he's trying to break away from his demons." Hailey countered, straightening her posture as she looked up at him, trying to block his way to the headset and screen.

"First of all you just made that rule up." Devon narrowed his eyes at her as she frowned.

"No I wrote it in the manual with a fucking permanent sharpie! It's permanent so therefore it is legit!" She angrily fumed, pointing at him in fristration.

"Oh stop this Hailey it's fucking pathetic. Psychotic bastards like Harry don't have fucking consciences, that's who they are-"

"You made him that way! You fucking took over and tramautized him. He was a good boy and now he's a good man. I know he is." She seethed as they neared one another.

"I was doing something you couldn't do. Our job. It's not my fault you fell in love with your human assignment." Devon shot back at her, catching Hailey off guard as all the operaters turned in their seats to give them a look while her small hands balled up into tight fists.

"You'll have to go through my dead body if you want to go back into Harry's head." She said in an even voice as Devon let out a sinister chuckle.

"That can be arranged." He said, but before he could even advance towards her he fell to the floor as I full on attacked him.

"I will fuck you up!" I screamed at him in pure rage, finally snapping as I started to ring his neck on the ground while he made almost humorous choking sounds from his throat underneath me.

"You try hurting him one more time and I'll kill you! I'll kill you!" I growled like a mad woman, digging my nails into his skin as Hailey and a few others pried me off his body, bringing me up from the ground while I reached out for him as he gawked up at me in fear and shock.

"Liza?" Hailey asked, blinking at me with wide confused eyes as I turned my attention to her, my chest heaving up and down rapidly as I retracted my claws back.

I held her face, bringing it close to mine as I observed her and she froze.

"I ship it." I told her with a smile before looking over at the screen, taking the headset and putting it on as a few employees tried to help Devon off the floor besides me.

"Heyyy...." I trailed off awkwardly, smiling when I saw Psycho Harry's body stiffen at my voice as I readjusted the microphone near my mouth.

He didn't answer for a while and I could tell he was confused and surprised before he finally said that one word, making me laugh as I wiped the tears of relief away from my eyes and nodded.

"Pumpkin?" He asked in uncertainty.

And even then I could see Hailey watch us interact from the side with a relieved smile on her face.

••

Hailey leaned over the table and poked my face.

"Wow... it's so weird seeing you like this in person.... I mean I usually just see you through Harry's eyes but you're here. In front of me." She said in awe, squishing my face together as I tried to eat the biscotti she gave me.

"You're really soft! Just like he always thought." She blinked at me with a dazed smile, pinching my cheek as I gave up and placed the biscuit down back onto the plate.

"You know- I'm actually meeting Psycho Harry at my princess's- I mean your boss, demon Harry's flat later since I gave him the address. Maybe you could come along and meet him for yourself in person." I offered, remembering the part where the Psycho told Hailey how much she wished she was real.

Hailey stopped playing with my face as she plopped back in her seat with a bewildered look as her blue eyes widened.

"No, no- I couldn't. I'm not just saying that by the way to sound polite or to not impose like I actually don't think I can actually bring myself to see him in person." She began to wheeze, her glasses fogging up as she took them off and quickly wiped the large lenses with the fabric of her sweater.

"And why not?" I challenged, leaning forward to get her attention as she put her glasses back on and gave me a look.

"Do you know how weird that would be? What am I gonna say- oh hey, hi yeah remember me, I'm that voice in your head that you've had since you were eight, the same one you told your parents about and made you see at least a hundred shrines every week and exclude you from the outside world. I can't do that to him." She exclaimed, unconsciously rocking back and forth in her seat as she fiddled with a strand of her dark hair.

"Besides... it would be so awkward since I really wanted you and him to get together." She gulped, lowering her voice as my eyes widened in surprise.

"Really?"

"Well yeah, it was like watching a show on Netflix where you're in love with this super hot hilarious character but since you can't be with him in real life you ship him with the other main character. Talking about Psycho Harry and you by the way." She explained as I laughed at her explanation.

"Same though..." I agreed, raising the cup of coffee in my hand with a smile.

"Liza, I just- I want to thank you for genuinely caring about my Psycho." Hailey began, shifting in her seat as her gaze flickered up to meet mine.

"I've been in his head ever since he was a little boy and I've watched him grow up yet despite everything, my admiration for him never disappeared. He deserves to be cared for and I'm glad he found you." She told me in a sincere tone as I lowered the cup in my hand and sent her a small smile.

"You know, he's lucky he has you too." I reminded her as she brought her gaze down to her lap, playing with the hem of her sweater.

"Ladies." A familiar voice resonated from the entrance of the breakroom, making us both turn our heads to find Frank looming at the door.

"Hey Frank, is Harry with you?" I asked, rising from my seat to look behind him to see if my Demon Prince was there.

I hadn't seen him since this morning and I was starting to get worried.

"Ah yes, that... Well you see... we were testing something out on your 'Princess' so you call him and there were a few... side effects...." He began, looking at a loss for words as I furrowed my brows in concern and took a step forward.

"What do you mean you were testing something out on him? Is he okay?" I asked, starting to become anxious and impatient as Frank let out a small sigh, regret forming over his features.

"I'm afraid you'll have to see for yourself." He told me before taking a step to the side until my gaze dropped to Demon Harry who was behind him, my eyes widening in shock as my jaw practically dropped to the floor.

The only thing I could do at that point was burst into hysterical laughter at the sight of his new form.
