Chapter XV

The house was similar to the one that was in the Stephen King novel Red Rose , it was the only thing she could compare it to. Once she dared step inside, and eerie tune of piano keys played. It filled the whole room . She had prayed that there was actually a piano inside this place.

She slowly shut the door , making it squeak long and slow. A small television sat on a desk nearby the door, newspapers splayed out on the surface. She continued to look around, and what she saw made her freeze to the old and ancient floorboards.

A group of people she didn't know or otherwise didn't remember sat by a huge dining table in the middle of the room. None of them looked at her, none of them except Louis. He was the only figure standing. He stared blankly in her direction. She wasn't even sure if he could see her. Her breathing almost stopped, he was walking towards her now. The group took no notice of Louis, and continued to talk amongst themselves. Their tones and voices were like deep and incoherent drones that resembled and made her think of the voices of the dead.

In the middle of the room, Louis stopped walking, standing directly by a very decorative fireplace. This mansion was old, but held many modern and present objects, yet it held an authentic and slightly creepy aura about it. That's really what scared her. Did Louis live here?

Her thoughts were slayed when she locked eyes with Louis again, but the second she did, she was no longer looking into beautiful blue irises. She couldn't make anything of what she was looking at. They were pools of shiny blackness. She saw nothing in his eyes. She had seen this before.

Louis started to smile, his thin lips curling.

A scream rang out when she saw the many, many sharp teeth that were stuck in his mouth. A glimpse of a long, snake like tongue running over Louis lips was all she experienced before dark took everything over.

-----------------------------------------------------

My skin was unusually clammy, and cold. I felt like what I had just experienced, a nightmare.

"What the fuck.." I whimpered and quickly grabbed my blanket in a clump and held it close.

What the hell did I just see..

Hell itself, it had to be.

I started shivering when my thought process lead to Louis in the dream. This wasn't the first time I've seen him like that. I swear to God I've seen his eyes only the color of the dark. I've never seen his mouth like that  at all though.

I'm sure you would, with your own tongue.

Now is not the time to think about Louis like that! I couldn't. Not after what I just saw.

It had been a week since I'd seen him. Or any of my other friends for that matter. I'd visited Zach occasionally when I got off work, but he was asleep every time I was there. It worried me.

I couldn't worry right now anyway, today I had extra hours. Least I was getting paid for them. I was getting a little bit further into buying tickets to Comic Con. I already had my cosplay of the T.A.R.D.I.S. Lame, I know. Who hasn't done that?

Work?

With a sigh, I got up from my bed. I must've been early because my alarm on my phone hadn't gone off. I grabbed it from the end table by my lamp and quickly disabled it, when the screen lit up with Louis's name.

I didn't know what to do. I was just staring at his name, and the number. He had no picture, or icon for his name. Which just made it all the more creepier. A flash of Louis in my nightmare came back, but it faded out as quickly as it faded in. It was just a nightmare, I'd forget it all in about 20 minutes anyway.

After the second to last ring, I clicked 'accept' and put the phone up to my ear. Not gonna lie, I half expected to hear a deep, slithering sort of voice that wasn't his own. Turns out it was just Louis's normal voice.

"Abby?"

"Louis. Hey." I cleared my throat of sleep and scampered over to my dresser to grab clothes for work.

"Just wake up huh?" He chuckled, sounding much more awake then me.

I grabbed a pair of skinny jeans and a nice but plain, white buttoned up shirt.  "Yeah..actually." I could practically feel my heart and mind racing for some reason. I took slow and deep breaths to calm down on my way to the bathroom.

"Figured so..it sounded like it. Anyway. I just wanted to check on ya, see how you're doing-"

I put him on speaker phone as I began to change, setting my phone down on the sink.

"-I haven't heard from you in a while..and, you know I was kinda worried. With Zach and that..are you doing okay?" His sincere voice calmed me down a bit.

I smiled while slipping on the shirt,"Yeah, I'm fine Lou. Thanks for asking. I'm sorry I haven't talked to you in awhile."

Louis's laugh made the phone vibrate, making me jump a little,"No worries hun..I understand, you got tired of me." He bantered.

"No!" I laughed and made sure the shirt was on right,"That's not it at all Lou."

"Uh huh.." He kinda giggled a little, making me glance at my phone. It was like he was almost here.

Wouldn't that be nice?

Not now.

"Well, if you say so, how's about comin over to my place and chill? Me and the boys got a new card game to play..I was wonderin if you wanted to come try it out. After work of course." He added.

I gently gnawed on my lip while zipping up my jeans. I stood still after and stared at myself in the mirror. Everything was fine except my hair, and I'd probably end up putting on a little makeup.  I casually moved part of it that hung over my neck, looking myself over. I looked into my own eyes for a moment, then they started changing. Then I started changing. My skin got paler, more gaunt, like I was aging, then the environment around my mirror image started to darken. Louis's figure replaced my own, but this time he was normal. I shouldn't have thought that, because shortly after his eyes turned the soulless, scary black I'd seen before. My breath caught in my throat, causing me to make a small gasp/scream come out of my mouth.

"Abby? You alright?"

I blinked and it all was gone. Suddenly I couldn't bring myself to look at the mirror anymore. I ditched the makeup idea and grabbed my phone, along with a scrunchie, because it was the closest thing to a hair tie that was nearby.

"Abby?"

"I'm fine." I answered, rushing around for shoes. Where did I keep them? "I just kinda fell." I faked a laugh, thankfully he bought it and laughed too.

"You dork..so how's about it yeah? I'll even pick you up if you want."

I physically shook my head and threw my phone quickly onto the bed, hastily put my hair up in a ponytail, and found my flats that were some reason under the bed. I must've been crazy at this point, but I swear my room got colder when I bent over. I closed my eyes when I looked under the bed and grabbed the shoes.

"Umm.." I slid them on and grabbed my phone again, then looked around for my purse,"I'll think about it Lou..okay? I gotta go to work right now though, I'll text you my answer later."

"Oh! Shit, sorry..Have fun! Don't think on it too long now." Louis chuckled.

I faked another smile while I headed out the door,"Thanks, and I won't. Bye Louis."

"See ya round Abby."

--------------------------------------------------------

Louis only let his hand holding his phone drop when he saw Abby get into her car and drive off.

Her mind was definitely on something. Something it wasn't really supposed to be.

Louis slid his phone into his jacket pocket once her car was out of sight. He let the people around him walk in front of, behind, and around him on the street. This town was strangely busy at this hour. He didn't quite care for it. Then again it was good cover. No one cared, and no one suspected anything, being too busy with their own personal ordeals. Louis smirked, humans were amusing creatures. Delicious as well.

Something soft bumped into Louis's shin. He looked down only to see a sleek, black feline, nuzzling his pant leg. It looked up at him with bright yellow eyes and mewed, like any cat would do.

Louis groaned inwardly and rolled his eyes, returning to look at Abby's apartment window.

"What are you doing here, Harry?"

The cat mewed a second time, as if mocking him.

"I don't particularly want to be seen talking to a cat that's not even mine."

The cat purred and flicked its tail back and forth, once again nuzzling its maw against Louis.

In turn, Louis narrowed his eyes at the cat with burning cheeks. "Shut up." Walking straight across the street once it was safe, the cat, Harry, followed him at his ankles.

"Why are you following me?" Louis asked once he was now walking on the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street he was on. "Don't you have an angel to mess around with?"

The cat mewed long and low, as if it was annoyed, and pounced after a small piece of food that was dropped a few feet in front of them on the sidewalk.

"Please, I don't want to talk about her right now." Louis rubbed his face with one hand with the other shoved into his pocket. "How the fuck did you find out anyway?"

Harry looked behind his shoulder at Louis after licking his whiskers.

Louis didn't even need an answer. He shook his head and walked past the black cat, but he just kept following.
