Chapter VII
That morning, I woke up late. Really late.
Are you talking about your period or your job?
My menstrual cycle is of no concern of yours.
Your'e really saying that?
Shut up, my period is fine.
I sat up quickly, groaning at the sharp but dulling pain in my back. I pulled the white sheets up to my naked body, blowing a piece of stray hair from my face,"Zach?"
No answer. I figured, he was probably at work still. I looked over at my clock to see it was 10:36. Yup, I was late.
"Shit shit shit shit shit shit..." I cursed, throwing the sheets off of me and running stark naked into the bathroom. I had no time for a shower so I just threw my messy hair up on a dumb ponytail. Shit was I late! I was a stickler for punctuality, and so was Mrs. Hawke.
"Shiiiit..." I drug out, picking up my stack of clothes I had laid out from yesterday. Thank God I set up for today, a little anyway.
I slapped on some makeup--making sure I didn't look half decent-after slipping into skinny jeans and a nice looking sweater. After a spritz of my perfume, I grabbed my phone from the messy bedroom, picked up my bag on the way to the kitchen and locked my door on the way out.
"Shit.." I hissed for the millionth time. I almost blamed Zach, but it wasn't entirely his fault. Did we have to do it everyday though? Not that im complaining, it was...
Ok?
I shivered once the cold late morning air hit me, the wind mixing with the whoosh of passing by cars. I closed the apartment complex door and looked up at the tall building. A slight flowy movement caught my eye. I looked way up and squinted my eyes to see a pair of curtains flowing in the wind. Was it?
"What.." I mumbled to myself. Zach must've opened the window or something. Those curtains belonged to one of the windows of my apartment. No time to go back up and close them now. Who would wanna steal from an apartment that high anyway?
I turned around to see my car, insignificant and plain in the big city. It stood out to no one but me. I unlocked the doors quickly and sat in the front seat.
Where else would you sit driver?
I dug my keys into the car and turned them to start it. I expected it to roar to life, but then a sound that I truly feared came from the car. A dead engine.
"Shit! Shit! No no no no no..." I whined and tried again, only to make the engine sputter for breath.
"Baggins!!" I cursed ad threw my head back against my seat. I groaned and slammed my door after stepping angrily out, walking back onto the sidewalk and staring at my crap car.
What the hell was I gonna do now?!
I bit my bottom lip to contain my worry and nervousness or else I'd have a neurotic attack of worry. I did the only thing I could think of and pulled out my phone.
"Are you serious?!" I yelled out. The display on my phone was blinking: "dead battery. Charge soon"
I dialed Zach's number, I had to make this count.
"Hey, Zach here. Leave a message after, you know. The beep. Beep."
"Zach you asshole!!" I yelled into my phone, ignoring the judging passers by. My phone kept beeping and I yanked it away from my ear.
"Fuck my life.." I whispered, gently tapping the tires on my car with the tip of my flats, which hurt. I was wearing the ones without fronts. My toes got the full blow of the hard rubber.
Wimp.
Kinda having a bad day right now.
I whimpered and turned to enter the building again. It would take a while to charge my phone back up. Jesus, Mrs. Hawke was probably going to kill me too...dock my pay at the very least. She'd send me to hell with her scolding glare that could make a demon quiver in fear. It was scary, trust me.
"Um, excuse me..." I turned my head over my shoulder to see the man I had saw yesterday, as well as thee day before. Good, I was wondering when I was going to see him today. I never got his name. I was surprised to see he didn't have a cigarette stuck in his mouth.
"Yes?" I asked faintly, a bit too upset to hold a conversation. I furrowed my brow at him, getting a better look at him. Was his eyes really a dark black earlier? Was he the same man? "Wait...I saw you yesterday, and the day before.."
I bet he didn't know that.
My foot is in severe pain.
"Yes you did," He answered simply. He smiled at me,"Abby, right? I'm Louis.."
Least I had a name to his strange prescence.
"Hi Louis. Um, if you don't mind I need to go back inside and charge my phone.." I said to him, turning on my heel. I was stopped by his voice and sudden brush of his hand on my arm.
"What's wrong? I may be able to help you."
I stared at him, suspiciously. What else was I going to do? He seemed nice enough, I guess. I've only met him a few times. What could go wrong? The thought of Mrs. Hawke giving me that evil and dearly unsatisfied glare made me shiver and think: YOLO.
I answered him and turned to face him. He stuck his hands in his jean pockets. "See, I was on my way to work and my car won't start. I tried calling my boyfriend but he's being a dick and not answering me so now I have to go back inside, charge my phone-"
"Leave that all to me love, I'll drive you to the university.." He grinned at me, making my whole body melt, as well as send another chiling shiver up and down my spine and nerves.
"R..really?" I asked.
Louis nodded and jerked his head behind him,"Yeah, my car's just over there."
"You have a car?" I questioned like a dumb idiot as Louis turned around, motioning me to follow him, which I did.
Louis nodded with a small chuckle, looking back at me,"Uh, yeah I do.."
"Sorry...I'm just a little flustered right now.." I said quietly, rubbing my arm to see if I could make the goosebumps go away. Did I really just ask that?
Abby you can't just ask people if they have a car.
Louis point blank turned on his feet and made me stop right in front of him. I stared into his eyes, they were really pretty, for eyes.
Pretty eyes Abby?
I gulped, taking a step back and looking away from his bright blue pupils that had a tint of green and was all together beautiful. Man, I wanted to look at them again. Thoughts of his eyes clouding up into pitch black aside. Louis stepped towards me, closing the space between us that I sort of wanted to stay open. He clasped my arms gently, looking at me with the same amount of kindness,"Abby, it's alright. Really, calm down ok?"
I nodded, averting his eyes and feeling silly. Louis nodded and stepped back slowly, his fingertips brushing against my arm. I didn't meet his eyes again after that, but his body language made me think he had a sort of hurt look on his face. I dared to glance up, and I saw the familiar darkness. I blinked and it vanished. His eyes were perfectly blue and perfectly perfect.
I shook my head and gave him a smile,"Ok..sorry.."
Louis nodded with a small smile and went ahead and opened the door to his averagely nice car. I thanked him and ducked my head to get inside. I watched his body as he walked around to the other side and sat in the driver's seat.
"Thank you.." I breathed out, situating my bag onto my lap as the car drove forward. I played with the jewelry on my fingers, rubbing my thumb over my class ring. Louis's voice was the only thing making me look away.
"My pleasure Abby." He smiled at me through the mirror that hung above us both. I smiled back and pulled out my phone.
"Shit.." Must've been he 12th time I said that.
The screen was blinking even more, telling me in an urgent red letters to charge it, as if I didn't see the dead battery sign above the words. I tried calling Zach one more time.
"Hey, Zach here. Leave a messager after, you know. The beep. Beep"
I groaned, about to throw my shit phone out the window.
"Problems?" Louis shot me a smirk, both of his hands on the steering wheel. He turned a hard left in the direction of the university. I saw his muscles tense when he turned the wheel a couple times. I wet my lips and eyed his fist clenching the rubber covering.
Wasn't that your boyfriend you just tried to call?
I blinked and looked back to my phone in my hand,"Asshole isn't answering me.." I mumbled. I narrowed my eyes in an angry pout at the road, observing the people and the cars that went back and forth on the road.
I whipped my head to see Louis smirk and let out a soft laugh. He shook his head and made another turn, stopping at a red light. I gazed at him, confused.
"What?"
"Nothing..you're just really cute when you mumble.." I had a good view of his side profile, so I saw the corner of his mouth turn upright pretty well. And it was sadly attractive.
I coudn't stop my cheeks from burning, it was like they had a mind of their own and made it their life goal to light up in red whenever a cute guy complimented me. "Uh huh.." I mumbled again, surprisingly chuckling.
Louis placed his foot back on the gas pedal and stepped on it, racing past the green light. He shared with me in laughing.
~~~~~~~~~~
Soon we were at the university. I checked the clock, 11:02. I was later than late.
"Jesus Christ, thank you again Louis. Shit, I have to go.." I urgently pulled and pulled on the door handle. I didn't know it was locked until Louis said something. I gazed at my phone as he talked.
"No prob Abby..here"
I looked up at him to see his hand outstretched to me, gesturing to my phone. I watched his eyes and looked down at my phone before looking back at him and placing it in his hands.
"Thanks,"
He twiddled his thumbs on the screen for a bit while I was almost bouncing up and down in my seat. I didn't want to be any more late.
Louis handed my phone back to me with a charming smile,"My numbers in there. You're gonna need to call me again after work."
"Why? I'll just try and call Zach again, by then he should be home..." I said slowly, not taking my eyes off of Louis as I took my phone back.
He just looked at me and shrugged,"Still, just in case you wanna see me again you know.." He winked at me, giving my cheeks the cue to blush like a fire hydrant. I breathed a soft laugh and opened the now unlocked door., stepping out and walking around the car to Louis's side to enter the campus.
"I'll see you later Abby.." He shot me another swoonful wink with a smirk stuck on his lips, his leg revving the engine. I jumped a little, making us both laugh.
"Bye Louis.." I waved faintly as he nodded and revved the engine again and drove off. I opened my phone back up, expecting it to be dead. It wasn't. I squinted my eyes to see it had 30 percent battery now. I turned around to look at where Louis's car just was, then back at my phone in awe. I stared down at the new added contact: Louis xx
Hmmph, no winky face?
I giggled to myself, shaking my head. If this was all just to get my number, I commended him for it. It was pretty well thought out.
I stuffed my phone back into my bag before kicking my legs into full gear and running into the campus. A seething feeling burned through my gut as I pictured Mrs. Hawke's piercing eyes, and almost heard her drone on and on with her long and boring English teacher-styles lecture. Late and arriving at 11:10. Great.
(A/N) This was a filler I guess? It's really not that interesting I know..anyway, sorry bout that. Now Abby has his number oooooo ;) what's gonna happen next?????
