Chapter I
"Zach stop being an asshole.."
"Abbs come ooonnnnnn..." He pleaded, that boyish smirk that was stuck on his face almost constantly, grew as he leaned on me, shifting the bench a little bit.
I scoffed bashfully and shoved his chest, making him laugh,"I'm not gonna do it!"
"Babe please? Its just right over there..and my big strong legs are all tired from walking..." He leaned in my direction, making me roll my eyes.
"You and your conceited penis joked I swear.."
"Abby..please? You know I'm kidding..I'll give you a kiss..I know you like those.."
Those i did enjoy...
"And I'll even share it with you!"
I did want one too...
"Baaabe please?"
And how could I resist those pouty lips?
You're making this sound way dirtier than it should be.
Who invited you to this party?
"Ok Ok Zach I will get your damn hot dog.." I laughed as I stood up and flattened my sundress.
He chuckled and smiled like a child getting candy,"Thank you.." He blew me a kiss as I walked off, that silly smirk that I more often wanted to kiss than slap, remained on his face. I rolled my eyes, hiding my smile as I walked and faced away from him.
The wind blew peacefully in West Park, the remaining autumnal colored leaves blew in spirals from their piles aside on the grass from the cobblestone walkway. I adored this park, especially in the fall. Tall trees dressed in beautiful orange, red, yellow, and brown skirts littered the area in a good way, and the birds that lived there were getting ready for their trip south, chirped, and little squirrels did their thing, storing nuts and such for their long sleep when they weren't being chased by a dog that occasionally got off it leash.
Listen to me, telling you how nature works.
You're boring sometimes.
And you are making people think I'm hearing voices in my head.
Aren't you?
Shut up.
I smiled at the salesman, my fingers tracing the frills at the end of my dress. I ordered my needy boyfriend his stick of meat and thanked the man, moving to the condiments station. A small and strangely ice cold breeze made a strand of my hair blow in my face. I turned my head, trying to blow it off. When that failed I tucked it behind my ear. I almost turned my head back to add the ketchup when I saw a man leaning against one of the tall oak trees a few meters away. He was average height, and had messy but brown and good looking fluffy hair that stood on his head. I couldn't make out his face that well, not like I was checking him out or anything, I did have a boyfriend.
Who is waiting and wondering what's taking so long for his girlfriend to get one hot dog.
I stared right at him, thanking god that he didnt see me and he was facing the other way so I saw his side. I didn't know what drew my eyes to him that much. I was even creeping myself out.
I shrugged off the stare and looked back at the hot dog. I squirted some yellow mustard and then grabbed a napkin, just in case Zach made a mess.
Which I knew inevitably he would.
My eyes glanced at the man again through my dark curls on the side of my face. He was still standing there. What the hell was he doing? I watched him reach into his denim jacket that was rolled up at the sleeves and pull out a lighter. Pfft. He must've been one of those "bad boys" that were too cool to hang around anyone and smoke a cigarette in solitude.
Disregarding the wannabe rascal, I rolled my eyes and put a dab of relish on the hot dog before picking it up and nodding at the salesman again in thanks. He sneezed and I turned to say "bless you" when I saw the man again, except closer. Right in front of the hot dog stand in fact. He was standing only a few feet from me. At this I narrowed my eyes at him, and he seemed to catch my disapproving gesture. Again, I only saw the side of his face, but the corner of his thin lipped mouth lifted into a half ass smirk.
I rolled my eyes one more time before quickly walking back to the bench where my boyfriend with a 10 year old mannerism sat idly by, kicking a few rocks that were on the ground. When I giggled at how cute he was he looked up at me, grinning. "Hey, took you long enough."
"Shut up...I forgot what you liked..." I teased as I took my seat beside him, smoothing out the end of my dress and crossing my legs. I handed him the hot dog when my eyes scanned my peripheral vision. The same man walked casually in front of us, one hand holding a hot dog and the other stuffed into his black skinny jeans pocket. I watched him the whole time he walked past us, and my eyes soon lingered down to the grass after he left.
"Brr..Jesus Abbs you got goosebumps you ok?" He chuckled as rubbed my arm, shaking me out of my weird trance.
I forced a smile at him, hoping he wouldn't catch it, though I know he would,"Yeah I'm ok..winds picking up. And I am in a dress you know..."
I shrugged, only making him chuckle shyly,"Yeah...and you look very pretty in it." My cheeks turned slightly pink and Zach leaned in and kissed me softly. He smiled at me again before taking a bite of his hot dog. Cheeks full like a chipmunk he held it up and looked at me, head slightly stilted, asking me if I wanted a bite.
What I really wanted to do was kiss him for being so adorable, but kissing a boy with his mouth full in public was probably not approved of in society.
Or in your mind, that's a little weird.
No one asked you.
I giggled instead and nodded, leaning forward to grab at the food with my teeth and took a bite, licking my lips after pulling back. Zach swallowed his bit and smiled at me, shaking his head and pointing out my ketchup smear on my cheek.
