Chapter {59}

Emrys Belle:

Damon and I stepped into the room after putting the little ones down for a nap. Our lunch meal had gone without a scratch, but the little ones were all getting grumpy for being up so long and having a run around the mansion gardens while we were taking photos. Thankfully this Maison had a lot of rooms for us to use during the day.

I stepped through the door of this suite. The room was absolutely beautiful. As you walk in you are met with a small sitting room, and by small I mean actually quite big but small in comparison to the Mortimer residence. There were two doors in the room, one that led to the master bedroom and the other to the bathroom suit. There were these big glass doors leading to a balcony, the windows taking up most of the wall.

I stepped closer to the windows to have a look at the view while Damon shut the door. He soon came up behind me, holding me close to his chest while he laid his chin on my shoulder. Both of us enjoying the view of the surrounding gardens, the sun shining high still though the afternoon was reaching its peak.

"You're all mine now. Can't backtrack now." He whispered in my ear making the hairs on my next stand up.

"Can't get rid of me either, I hope you realise." I played along.

"I would never want to get rid of you. You're a Mortimer now, only way out is death." Damon spoke back.

"Way to dampen the mood Damon." I joked pulling away.

I looked over my shoulder before I made it to the bedroom door. A mischievous idea crossing my mind.

"We have a bit of time on our hands before we have to meet the others." I dragged giving a suggestive look towards Damon.

His head suddenly perked up knowing exactly what I was referring to.

"Would be a shame to not put this time to good use." I smirked, tugging down the zipper of my dress.

Damon's eyes following my every move. Hunger swimming in his eyes.

"Say no more baby girl." He all but growled, pulling his jacket off his shoulders and loosening his tie.

With one last look, Damon pounced on me, chucking me onto his shoulder the second my dress hit the floor. I let out a playful shriek letting him carry me to the bed to 'kill time'.

I was laying in Damon's arms, enjoying these last few moments before I had to slip into my second dress of the day when I heard a light noise coming from the living room. I knew it wasn't anyone in the family since they were just chilling downstairs while we waited for the tables to be set and the kids to be awake.

Damon was taking a little snooze so I unhooked myself from his stronghold and quickly unzipped my second dress and with a little struggle managed to zip it up halfway, my arms being too short to pull it to the top. But at that moment I thought it would do.

I reached over the little ornate dagger that Everleigh had gifted me this morning 'just in case'. I walked over to the bedroom door as quietly as I could and tried to peek to see who was in the room.

Not seeing anything I decided to step out of the room to take a closer look. As I stepped out something caught my attention and I heard that same noise as I did earlier.

"Jeremy?" I whispered to myself in confusion as I saw him by the glass doors that led to the balcony.

There he was, just standing there trying to pick the lock on the door. I rushed to the door to open it and stop Jeremy from waking Damon up. I do not want to have my wedding dressed stained in blood because Damon decided to murder my ex on my wedding day.

Upon seeing me Jeremy stopped his fiddling with the door ans stepped back allowing me to walk through.

"What the hell are you doing here." I whisper yelled.

"Okay, first off saying 'hello, how are you?' Doesn't go amiss" he sassed.

"You have five seconds to tell me why you are here and what you want before I start screaming." I challenged.

With a sigh of defeat, Jeremy ran a hand over his face in exhaustion. And now that I looked at him a little closer I could see that he had lost some weight, his ice blue eyes having lost their wild glint.

"Jeremy, tell me." I pushed.

"I came to warn you Birdie. I don't have long before you hounds figure out that I passed the security barrier." He started.

"Warn me of what?" I asked dumbly.

"These Mortimers, they are not what they appear Em. They can't protect you for what is coming your way." He spoke very critically, looking over his shoulder every two seconds.

"I want you to take Aj and go as far away from here as you can."

"You do realise I'm standing in front of you in a wedding dress, on my freaking wedding day and now you want me to just take my kid and leave? Damon is not you Jeremy. I have no reason to leave." I argued.

"Em, I'm serious. Get the fuck out. It won't be today, maybe not tomorrow but soon. They are out for revenge and you are the perfect target." Jeremy continued, his blue eyes begging with me.

"Who? Tell me who 'they' are." I ordered taking a step closer to him.

"I can't say, I don't even know how this all connects to you but it does Emrys. They want you and want to take Aj too. I know I haven't shown that I can be trusted and wanted to make your life as miserable as you made mine after you left. Just know that I'm saying this to protect you and my son. Despite everything Emrys you are constantly on my mind and I know I can't have you and you made it clear that I can't have anything to do with Aj but that doesn't mean I don't care for you." His words held sincerity to them.

My heartbeat picked up, a sense of worry washing through me.

"The Mortimers will protect us. They are fully capable of keeping both Aj and I safe, Jer. I promise you that." I reassured him in an attempt to make these words calm me down too.

"You don't understand Emrys." He gritted out, balling his fists.

"This is much bigger than them. They cannot protect you unless you leave and never come back. Change your name, profession. They can't know who you are." He insisted.

"But why?" I questioned.

"Emrys. Jesus, will you for once stop being so stubborn and listen to me!" He took a dangerous step towards me making me jump back in fear.

He took a breath and took a few steps back.

"Sorry." He whispered.

"I just don't want anything happening to you and because of who you are and your family and now becoming a Mortimer you are a bigger target then you'd ever be. Bigger than being just a Mortimer wife. I don't think you understand the severity of what I'm telling you Emrys."

"You aren't telling me anything. How can I know that what you are saying is true? How can I know that you are just not playing one of your mind games, on my freaking wedding day no less." My frustration was starting to build against him.

"Because, Emrys. They know I'm here. I'm working for them but I'm only doing it to keep you and my son safe for as long as I can. Put them off the sent and keep them satisfied for as long as I can so you can get the fuck away from here and fast." He paced the balcony, picking up on both our frustration.

"Why don't you send an anonymous tip to the gang. They can look into it for you. So then you don't have to worry, your job will be done." I suggested.

"I can't just send something in Emrys. Gosh, you are so naive to this all. No wonder your father tried his hardest to keep you away from all this. This is after all partially his fault." Jeremy mumbled the last sentence as he turned his back to me but I still heard it.

"How do you know that my dad kept me hidden?" Was my first question.

"Because, Emrys, you stupidly showed up with his jacket the day we raced. Having a blue snake on you back was sort of a dead giveaway. There were always rumours of the second in command having a hidden child that everyone wanted to get in order to hold it against your dad but you were never found. I don't think you realise how precious you are to people who want to take the Mortimers down. People will go the extra mile to hurt one of you."

I just stood there, a little confused, trying to process everything that Jeremy was telling me.

"In this business having something valuable to you will ultimately be your downfall. I'm sure you've heard the many stories from the Mortimers of their kidnaps and crashed weddings? Well, that has something to do with it."

He took a brief pause seeing me trying to figure this all out.

"But why me? I'm only now a Mortimer. Being my father's daughter doesn't make me that valuable does it?"

"It does Emrys, maybe more so than the actual Mortimer children. Carter was untouchable, the most secretive man in the business. This is known by everyone. He was best friends with THE Asher Mortimer. These people have been looking for you for years Emrys. I didn't know they were looking for you until I brought you to the compound that first day, you remember?"

I froze.

"You mean the day I saw my first race?" Jeremy simply nodded, looking towards the floor.

"When I was thirteen? You are telling me you have been lying to me for all those years?!" My anger rose at this revelation.

"Emrys, don't get mad. I didn't know you were what they were looking for, I swear. But they had already found you by then. I didn't realise until then that you were my mission." He confessed.

"Your mission? I was just a mission to you?" I asked hurt this time.

"At first yes, you were annoying but there was so much potential in you and then I fell for you Em. I mean who wouldn't? But things were getting too much and when you got pregnant it was all getting too real. I couldn't be with you and for them to have you as leverage over me, I didn't want anything happening to you. I loved you."

I could feel the tears of anger and hurt rise in my eyes but I wouldn't let him get to me, my makeup took too long for it to get ruined by some low life like Jeremy.

"What does this have to do with me, my dad and the Mortimer's now?" I gritted out.

"I–" Jeremy started but the sound of a phone ringing sounded from the inside.

Both Jeremy and I froze knowing that Damon would wake up from the sound.

We both shared a look. I didn't want this conversation to end. I know I can get more out of Jeremy if he stayed longer but the moment was short lived. I felt like stone, my legs unable to move.

"I need to go." Jeremy rushed out.

But before he left, he came over to me and kissed my cheek before stepping back.

"You looked beautiful today by the way." I stood there my mouth agape.

I could hear Damon shuffling around calling my name knowing that it will be seconds before he finds me standing out here.

I just couldn't move from my spot. I looked behind me for a brief moment catching Damon's gaze from the corner of my eye before quickly turning back to where Jeremy was standing only to have no one there.

"There you are." Damon exclaimed a little out of breath for what appeared to be worry.

"Where else would you want me to be." I shook myself out of my state and smiled towards my husband hoping to mask what had just happened.

"Can never be too careful. Wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you, it would kill me." Damon spoke grabbing my hips to pull me closer to him.

I instinctively wrapped my arms around his neck bringing up even closer together. I placed my lips on his needing to feel that connection and protection in his arms.

"Nothing can ever happen to me as long as I have you by my side to protect me right?" I questioned but the hidden message of the question was much deeper.

"Of course. I promise to protect you until my dying day. You are my everything Emrys and I could not live without you by my side. You and our children and part of me and without you I am nothing." He then placed a soft kiss upon my forehead before bringing his lips lower to kiss my nose before settling on my lips as their final destination.

We kissed until the air ran out of my lungs. After pulling away and catching our breaths Damon proceeded to zip up my dress, making me jump at how sudden he was.

"Come, your mum and sister have arrived and the kids are finally awake. Time to get this party started." Damon gave a little shoulder shimmy at 'party' making me let out a small giggle, all my previous worries floating off my shoulders as if I hadn't just been given the gravest information of my life.

"Come let's go before my mother tells me off for being late to my own wedding when she didn't bother coming to my ceremony.

I took Damon's hand in mine and dragged him to the door making sure I had everything I needed before stepping out, my small dagger safety tucked in the garter belt under the dress.

I took one last look around the room, thinking that Jeremy was still around somehow.

I just couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched and that perhaps Jeremy's words held some truth to them.

What if he was right and someone is after me? What then?
