Chapter {56}
Emrys Belle:
I walked over to Damon and gave him a kiss on the lips, reaching up to wrap my arms around his neck having to step on my tiptoes to be able to reach. I could feel him melt under my touch letting me know he wasn't mad with me for leaving. I pulled away slightly, getting lost momentarily in his chocolate eyes.
"You are staying in the car," I whispered out watching the shift of mood take over his face.
"I beg your pardon?" he pushed me off him, his posture changing.
"I told you when I left that if you wanted to come you could but had to stay in the car. Jeremy cannot see you here." I smiled sweetly at him.
"Um, no. This is not how it is going to work." Damon argued.
"Yes, Damon it is. It's up to me to get our son back, not you." I shot back.
"Emrys, you need to stop acting like you are still alone. I'm here to help. It's my job to make sure nothing happens to my family and guess what? You are my family and I'd be damned if you walked in there to get hurt." Damon's body language clearly was looking for conflict, an inner battle for him to protect me.
I walked over to him, taking his hands in mine letting out a short breath before I wrapped my arms around his chest and gave him a hug to which he responded to right away hugging me tighter than he ever has before.
"Damon, I have to be the one to go in, alone. Jeremy will talk to me, not you and you know that. I can let you put us at risk like that. We have to act as a team and you need to trust that I know what I'm doing. I am my father's daughter after all." I concluded, pulling away from the hug.
I knew he would not be pleased with me. I expected that but at the same time, I know how Jeremy is like, I need Damon to stand by and be ready to get us out of here when it all goes to hell and get Aj out.
Damon kissed my lips once more, holding my hand firmly making it hard for me to walk away as he would not let go.
"Damon," I warned, tugging at my hand.
I was pulling at my hand harder but Damon did not budge.
"Damon, let go." I pleaded.
His face remained stoical as I was tugging and trying to pry his fingers away. He let out a sigh and let my hand go see as I wasn't strong enough to make him let go. I stumbled in my step a little as I was still pulling at my hand. He let out a small chuckle but composed himself once more.
I brushed myself down and flicked my hair back, turning on my heel and walked towards the beaten-up metal door to the side of the building. With a bit of a struggle, I managed to push the door open, a creak following the movement breaking the grounding silence.
"Jeremy?" I called out, stepping in the deserted room.
It had a concrete floor, a few broken windows letting the light in. The place looked pretty much abandoned which did not seem like the type of place Jeremy would hang out, much less take his son to. He was always very high maintenance and it showed in the cars he had and how he raced to win. He was in it for the money and to have the luxurious life he never got when he was growing up.
"Jeremy? I know you are here, just come out and give me my son back." I yelled out, my temper rising again.
I heard the slow sound of footsteps coming from behind me. I swiftly turned around to be faced with him, dressed in black as per usual, casually strolling in knowing that my patience was running low.
"Not even a hello? Where have your manners gone birdie?" Jeremy smirked.
"Jeremy cut the crap. Where is Aj?" I sighed.
"He's safe." was his simple answer.
"Jeremy, I really don't have the willpower to deal with you right now. Just let me see Aj and take him home. I don't even understand why you took him out in the first place."
"Aren't I allowed to see my son and take him out of school if and when I please?" he sassed taking a new step towards me.
"No, you don't get to do that. You have had five years to step up and be a father to Aj and you sat on your arse for most of it. Now all of a sudden when I'm happy and have a new family you decide that you want your son in your life? It doesn't work like that Jer. You can't just pick what days you want to be a dad. You had a chance, I gave you so many opportunities to be a dad and be involved in Aj's life and you chose not to. You lost your chance, Aj has a new dad that loves him and is there for him no matter what." I poured my heart out.
I could see a little hurt and anger rise in his ice-cold blue eyes, I knew I had hit a nerve but he chose not to be involved, that was his choice, I never stopped him from being part of Aj's life but I can't let Aj get hurt anymore.
"Besides, I don't want you in Aj's life anymore. The races, the fights... I want to keep him away from that and you know that the people you do business with are not good people." I concluded.
"The people I do business with? You're worried about the people I'm involved with? Wow, that's rich coming from you." He spat.
"Me? How am I the problem?"
"You let our son be around cold-blooded murderers each day, those people you call in-laws, heck even your new husband is as bad if not worse than the people I handle business with yet you're worried about me being a bad influence and put Aj at risk? Look around you Emrys, you would have never been here in the first place if it wasn't for that family."
I looked at him confused about his last statement. I was here because he decided to be an idiot and kidnap his own son.
"Aj is not in danger when he is around me. I don't have half the underground community that want to kill me, unlike your Mortimer. He's safer with me and deep down you know that even if you don't want to admit it. You don't belong here Birdie, you never did even if you are a natural at being bad like me. You are too fragile and precious for this line of work and until you realise that I can't keep protecting you."
"What? Protecting me? Protecting me from what?" I asked, suddenly taken by his words.
I could tell that he didn't mean to say that last bit but I didn't have time to think over it as he turned over his shoulder and waved at someone. The sound of a door followed by two sets of footsteps. Soon enough I saw my little blonde headed boy run towards me. A feeling of relief washed over me.
I dropped to my knees and wrapped Aj in my arms and tightly as I could, holding him close to my chest knowing that he was back in my arms. I let him go momentarily to see if he had any visible sign of damage to which I found none.
I looked up to see that a rather young and beautiful looking woman had been the one to walk Aj out. She gave me a shy smile before she walked back off into the dark corridor that she had come from.
"Aj baba are you alright?" I rushed out cupping my little boy's cheeks to try and get eye contact.
He just nodded and looked back towards Jeremy then back at me again. As if he was thinking about something.
I looked back at Jeremy who was looking at his son and for a split second, I almost saw what could have been mistaken for love or adoration directed towards Aj.
"You must go." was all that came out of his mouth, that look long gone.
"You are just going to let us leave like that? After all the trouble and stress you have put me through? Are you joking? Why can't you communicate like a normal person?" my anger rose again and I picked Aj up and placed him on my hip.
"Yes, Birdie. Go." he gritted out, looking down at his watch.
"Now Emrys." he urged.
I scoffed and turned on my heel mumbling under my breath.
After another little struggle, I opened the metal door that I had walked through in the first place and walked towards my car where Damon was leaning against the hood. He pushed himself off and met me halfway. He wrapped his arms around Aj and I made me feel safe all over again.
"Let's get you out of here. Take Aj in your car and we'll meet at my parents and you can tell me everything." Damon spoke up in the silence to which I just nodded my head and proceeded to get Aj settled in my car.
I drove off only for Aj to look a little sad.
"What's up, baby?" I asked, wanting to know what he had lived through.
"I want to go back." he pouted.
I almost crashed the car with his words.
"Why? Was it not scary being away from mommy and being with strangers?" I questioned.
"No, he showed me all his cars. And the nice lady gave me nuggies." he smiled at the memory.
I am so confused about what Jeremy's intentions are with Aj and why he was so willing to let me take Aj back with me without putting up too much of a fight.
I decided not to say anything else to Aj and just let him chat about what Jeremy and him had done together, a pinch of jealousy settling in at how calm Aj seems to have been during all this.
Something just didn't feel right.
