The curiosity got the best of him, and so Hawk Moth couldn't help but quietly and sneakily make his way closer to the woman in front of the gate.
Before he would've gotten too close to her, he made sure to transform back into his 'real' self, so the assistant wouldn't know his biggest secret of being one of Paris's most wanted villains.
Then, the grey haired man began to slowly walk over to where she was.
Of course, as he got closer the dark haired woman started to sense that she wasn't alone, and when she turned her head to the side she came across a tall silhouette approaching, confidently.
The first instinct of the woman was to run away as she thought it was some creep, or a person looking to hurt her, but as the figure got closer, she began to see a familiar face.
By the time that Gabriel was almost standing in front of her, Nathalie couldn't believe why on earth her boss would be outside his house at this hour of the night.
"H-h-hello?" Her broken voice echoed in the coldness of what was becoming dawn.
"Hello Nathalie." Gabriel returned. "What are you doing out here so late at night and so early at dawn?"
"I-..." the assistant wasn't sure what to respond.
Should she hand the man in front of her the letter to inform him that she will no longer work for him, or should she lie about something else?
"You?" He asked, getting impatient for an answer.
The letter in the dark haired woman's hand was trembling by now and she still had no idea what she'd like to say back.
All she could do was stare at the man cluelessly.
"Nathalie?" The designer began to question her strange behavior.
He almost thought that maybe she happened to be sick, because clearly something wasn't right with the way his employee acted as of right now.
Gabriel was about to reach out and place his hand on her shoulder so that maybe that way the assistant would react to something he did, but before he could do so, Nathalie took a step away from him.
"I-I need to go-" she awkwardly mumbled. "I-I don't feel good a-and I was just coming here to the mansion to tell you that I'll be off 'sick' today, s-so I can't work."
"You could've called me, there was no need to force yourself here at dawn. You're only gonna get more sick that way."
"My phone was broken! A-and I'm fine sir, don't worry, I just wouldn't want you to catch whatever I have." She pretended to fake cough before turning her back to her superior.
Now Nathalie felt more awkward than ever, still holding onto the letter that she didn't have the courage to give to her boss, and still knowing he was right behind her.
This couldn't get more embarrassing, except it just did when the assistant heard her superior take one step closer to her and utter:
"Alright." He cleared his throat. "So would you like to walk home in the pouring rain or for me to drive you?"
"You don't know where I live." She turned around with a scared expression since the confident voice of her boss worried the woman a little too much.
He sounded as if he would've known that she lived far away and exactly where, but her anxiety about this quickly got resolved when Gabriel said:
"I don't know where you live, don't stress." He chuckled, seeing his assistant's expression soften up as he said those words. "...but you could give me directions if you'd like a drive home."
"I-..."
"I just wouldn't want you to get more ill."
That way that the grey haired man said his sentences somehow made Nathalie feel like he really cared for her.
She blushed, not only because he made her feel a certain yet unexplainable type of way with those words, but also because of this strange feeling she felt that could only be best described by the word; comfort.
As if she would've known him like a close friend for many years.
She indeed knew her superior for quite some time now, but never had their relationship been anything other than professional.
However, now in the terrible rain, cold and crack of dawn, for an unexplained reason the assistant felt as if this strictly professional status of their relationship was about to change.
"Nathalie." Gabriel's voice brought her back into reality.
"Y-yes?" She shook her head to forget all her strange hopes.
"I wouldn't want to rush you to make a decision, but standing in the pouring rain isn't very pleasant."
"I apologize!" The dark haired woman blurted out. "I-I-I g-guess I'll just go." she decided with a heavy, painful sigh. "I wouldn't want to bother you with getting the car keys and all that 'stuff'."
"You're not bothering me." The grey haired man said which once more made Nathalie's eyes sparkle a little.
Deep down she was going against all she ever want with every single word of hers, but it was too late now to turn back.
The assistant had to play along with the 'sick' lie she created.
"It's alright sir." She mumbled, slowly turning her back to the tall man. "I'll go now."
Gabriel watched as his employee walked away from him into the obscurity of this dark, grey morning.
He felt it was so strange how Nathalie had behaved.
Not because she was selfless, she had always been like that, but because her actions completely contradicted what came out of her mouth.
Never had she looked at him the way she did now.
The grey haired man picked up on that gentle glow that was present in her dark blue eyes.
In fact he got so lost in the moment that he totally forgot to utter a goodbye to the woman.
"That was strange." Gabriel whispered to himself, but the little butterfly hiding in his shirt heard all of it.
Without much of a warning Nooroo decided to fly out of his hiding place and examine what exactly made his owner seem so lost and confused in his own emotions.
After all the kwami could sense every single little feeling.
"Master?" The small creature questioned in his soft voice. "What just happened?"
"You tell me!" Gabriel exclaimed cluelessly. "Did you see how she looked? She didn't look sick, she looked lost, or maybe even worse. Not physically, I'm not calling her ugly, but there was something in the way that Nathalie looked at me which wasn't normal!"
"And you're mad about it?"
"What no! I'm not mad!" He scoffed "I-I-I just don't understand why she wouldn't tell me the truth!"
"Well, are you her friend?"
"I-..." the grey haired man hesitated for a moment, nowhere near were they friends, but simply business partners felt too empty to say.
He had just been so confused by this all that Gabriel exclaimed in frustration; "I'm her boss!"
"Exactly master." The butterfly smiled unexpectedly. "One wouldn't tell their superiors their true problems. She doesn't see you as someone who understands her!"
"Ouch Nooroo, you really had to phrase it so harshly, didn't you?"
"I had to explain to you."
"Thanks a lot, now I feel so much better!"
The grey haired man sighed as he had finally turned himself towards the big iron gates of his house and began to open them.
"Master." The kwami didn't leave his owner alone. "At least now you comprehend that maybe you should talk to her more often and make her feel like she could trust you. Possibly then you'll feel less clueless and a little better that you can help your employee."
"Nooroo, you really just told me I'm a terrible person through fancy words for the third time didn't you?"
"Everybody interprets what I say differently." The small creature forced an innocent smile onto his own face as an attempt to lighten the mood of his owner, however, the tall man just rolled his eyes;
"I took that as a 'fuck you Gabriel, you emotionless piece of shit."
"Master!" Nooroo exclaimed. "That was a bit dramatic."
However, by now the designer didn't bother to respond, he simply walked away and into his mansion, leaving somewhat of a guilty feeling in his little kwami's heart.
Needless to say he wasn't the only being who experienced that terrible emotion tonight.
Nathalie too was suffering from such self destructive feelings as she made her way home.
"I messed up." She sighed. "I messed up horribly, didn't I?"
"Miss!" Her peacock friend shook her head fiercely. "You shouldn't blame yourself! We can always make it right! I know!"
"Duusuu." The dark haired woman took a deep breath before turning towards her kwami. "I admire your enthusiasm, but I think I'd rather have my feeling to myself, without you interfering, I'm sorry, I just need to be alone for a little while."
