"Happy?" Nathalie rolled her eyes. "Can I finally sleep or is there something more you want?" She was fed up by now and didn't even try to hide her anger.
Jean too had obviously noticed the assistant's increasingly aggressive behavior towards him, but for some reason he didn't want to tone down his irritating voice, instead, the man just kept building up her frustration;
"Don't act like I'm some greedy monster." He spat. "All I did was ask you to say my actual name."
"This is not about your name Je-Armand!"
"What is it about then?!?!"
Their yells echoed all across the small apartment.
People in the surrounding rooms probably heard all that.
In fact, Audrey was also most likely listening and having an absolute blast from all this drama.
Yet regardless of being aware of how loudly each word echoed, they didn't stop.
"Is it about my personality?!?" The butler shouted "My greediness?!? My-"
"Your weirdness! The woman cut him off. "You're weird! You want me to stay even though we are absolutely irrelevant to each other!"
"Oh wow, is that how you think of me?" The man's voice asked with disappointment to which Nathalie had to sigh, soften her voice and explain;
"Yea, I think you're weird. I mean no one else uses the same cologne for 20 years, washes everything with the exact same scented soap, only uses one precisely particular color of silverware, irons their suits every Tuesday at the same time in the afternoon, waters their plants only at night because in the day-time it is 'less efficient' as you used to say."
Her voice began to quiet down more and more.
Now, instead of yelling the assistant was whispering:
"No one else ever remembers such small details of me like you do, Armand."
"I-"
"And no one wants me to stay as much as you do, Armand." The woman's voice was barely audible as she mumbled this all under her breath.
Nevertheless, Jean's mouth feel agape.
He had been stunned by the amount of things his ex remembered about him, and at last, he could relate with Nathalie's words;
"No one else ever remembers such small details of me like you do."
She indeed remembered like no other.
This unexpectedly got the butler more flustered than ever to the point that all he could feel was the overwhelming sensation of his cheeks heating up.
Quickly, to hide all evidence of his blush Jean buried his face in his palms dramatically, which unintentionally got the assistant in front of him to worry;
"What's wrong?" She anxiously stepped closer to him, and without thinking reached to grab one of his arms.
Nathalie, while still not putting much thought into her actions tried to pull the butler's hands away from his face as she thought he was hurting.
"Jean!" She exclaimed. "What's wrong-"
"Let go of me!"
His shout made the woman back off a little.
Like this the man could have some space to calm down and let his blush fade away, until then, the butler turned his back to the assistant.
Of course this formed an awkward air around both adults; the silence began to be utterly painful and neither of them knew what to say in order to ease the tension.
Their situation was worsening tremendously as minutes rushed by.
The butler eventually realized that he would need to to look his ex in her eyes once more, there would be no escaping it, so with a deep sigh and all of his remaining confidence, Jean turned to face her.
"Well" was all he could say after a few short moments of collecting himself.
Armand was still absolutely shocked as well as emotionally troubled by the details which his ex girlfriend listed very aggressively.
He didn't expect for her to have ever cared about him to this extent.
The man was quite intimidated too as it seemed that he wasn't the only one who could use the past to hurt others.
He was vulnerable too now.
Very vulnerable, and surprised.
"Are you okay?" Nathalie's voice suddenly interrupted Jean's thoughts. "Why did you turn away?"
"S-something went in my eye" the butler lied.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to push you."
"Don't worry about it." She smiled, and like before, this ignited a passionate feeling in the man.
Words weren't fit to describe what he felt.
It was the simple thought of the woman caring about him, things going back to how they were in the past, and them-...
"...you know" he began once again "I'm quite lost for words." Jean mumbled to which the woman returned an encouraging nod that helped the man gain some courage in continuing what he started to say.
More importantly, now the butler could ask the question he was dying to know the answer to;
"How did you even remember all those foolish facts about me?"
"If I care, I remember." The assistant shrugged.
"It's that simple."
"So you care about me?"
"I did."
"Did?" He wondered "Past tense ?"
Jean unexpectedly became more and more concerned about Nathalie's opinion towards him.
He wanted to know all her thoughts of him, hoping that some of them would give him a second chance. However, all while this the butler didn't even notice the stern look on his face which waited for the woman in front of him to answer.
The man seemed greatly impatient.
As a result the assistant became a little uneasy, she wasn't so sure anymore how much she could trust this man.
"Why do you want to know so much, Armand?" She asked dismissively in order to put a bit of distance between them.
"I-" Jean's eyes widened at the sassy question and unexpectedly the butler's voice began to be slower, as well as rougher. "I just want to know."
"Well I don't feel anything for you now." Nathalie answered harshly.
"Happy now that I've answered?"
Once again, there it was.
An attitude that was the man's worst enemy.
"Don't start again with this behavior." His voice warned, but unfortunately this only caused the dark haired woman to become even more defensive, and in his eyes: frustrating.
"What behavior?" Nathalie spat. "You're the one who starts these! Plus, you're also the one who's been acting like a total creep all along!"
"I-"
"Thought I could trust you, Armand." The woman turned away from him, but she didn't leave.
She waited until she could hear the floor creek a little which signaled the butler trying to step closer to her.
Then, the assistant would've wanted to quickly slide out of his hands before he could've grasped her, except, unfortunately for Nathalie this didn't come true;
Jean's arms reached out faster than expected and they took a very firm grip on the woman's arms.
She didn't even have time to attempt to break off his tight hold because immediately the butler dragged the assistant right to him.
Armand pulled on Nathalie with such a powerful force that she came crashing into him.
"Ouch!" They both ended up landing on the wooden floor of the apartment after a terrible fall.
"Nath" his shaking voice breathed. "I'm so sorry-"
The man was about to stand up and also help the woman to her feet, but the assistant's shrieking voice interrupted.
"Stop it!" She screamed as soon as she felt him move and try to grab her for a second time, except, the only difference now would've been that he'd lift her up.
However, Nathalie was doing everything in her power to fight his every attempt at reaching for her, therefore, Jean couldn't do much.
"Leave me alone damn it!" She shouted.
"But I only want to help-"
"You're not very good at that!" The woman had gotten up all by herself and gave a disgusted glare to the butler.
He could only awkwardly stutter: "Nath I-"
"What is it?!" Her voice shook the room. "Why are you acting so weird?! What is wrong with you!?"
"I-"
Those few words pierced that man like nothing ever before, yet no tears or heartbroken emotions could be shown on Jean's face.
Despite feeling devastated the butler managed to keep his emotions concealed on the outside, exactly the same as he always used to.
Nevertheless Nathalie was stunned, even if she had seen this in the past a countless amount of times, she thought she could almost get her ex to express some sort of an unhappy emotion this time, but nothing.
'Incredible', she thought, he was more heartless than her.
Anyway, suddenly a loud knock broke away the adults from their argument and Jean hurried to the door without any hesitation or a word to finish their conversation.
He acted as if nothing would've happened, the man just snapped back to reality and was once more acting like the professional butler everyone referred to as:
"JEAN!" Audrey unbearable voice loudly exclaimed. "What on earth has been going on in here?!?!" The angry woman pushed her worker to the side in order to take a peak inside the room, there her eyes spotted the assistant, Nathalie.
"WHY THE HELL IS SHE HERE?!"
To be continued-
I've been struggling with writing this chapter for a solid week now, so I apologize if it isn't good because I feel like my writing was quite awful here.
