"You were thinking about it!" He smirked "Oh look at you blush!" Hawk Moth teased. "You're sooooo nervous, I can sense it!"

"Enough Hawky!" The woman got up in her rage "I wasn't thinking of y-you!" Mayura stuttered "y-y-you disgusting m-man!"

She stepped away and turned her back to him. "Pathetic." was all the villian could hear of Mayura mumbling under her breath.

She said a few other inaudible things too, but not being able to figure out what they meant was probably for Hawk Moth's benefit.
He knew it himself too that they must've been pretty vile, nevertheless he was the curious kind.

"What's that?" The man lifted himself off of the ground and was now looking over her "Did you say something?"

"You asshole!" She sprung around enraged by her partner's calm voice "I'm going to kill you!"

"Woah Woah Woah! Please no! I-I d-didn't-"

"You are always frustrating me!"

"I-"

"And all you do is stand in the way of me getting the two miraculouses!"

"You're wrong there" he corrected "I offered to help."

"You can't help!" She spat "You can't do anything! Especially not something that would be beneficial to me in any way! You're a useless and worthless piece of shit Hawk Moth!"

"I-...ouch."
The man for a second got emotional there.
He almost had gotten used to Mayura's insane outbursts of anger, except this one was way more intense than any of them before.
It even had the villian tear up for a second, but as soon as he felt the tear wanting to roll out of his eye, Hawk Moth sniffed his sadness away.

"Yeah fuck you!" The woman's voice shouting made him focus back on her.

"May I-"

"I'm leaving!"

With that the bird lady pushed herself far away from him and jumped off of the rooftop they were on.

"Wait no!" Gabriel had only realized he messed up, but this time instead of instantly breaking down and regretting every one of his decisions, Hawk Moth made the choice to go after her.

"We can talk this through!" Yelled the villian jumping after his partner, but nothing.

She didn't even turn her head in his direction.

It somewhat seemed that Mayura hasn't heard Hawk Moth yell after her, so relying on the small possibility that the woman didn't know he was after her, the man now quietly followed in her steps.

Always making sure he was a couple of buildings behind Mayura if by any accident she'd look back then Hawk Moth wouldn't be visible, but she never seemed to look back.

The only time the woman stopped was when she appeared to have arrived at her destination, there she took a quick glance all around to observe her surroundings and as it seemed to be clear, she pushed up her window through which she snuck in.

The man waited a couple of moments before he crawled closer to the window and peaked his head up to see what his partner was up to.
Mayura wondered around what seemed to be her living room, collecting her 'human' clothes off of the couch and then walking away into the bathroom, most likely to change.

Then the thought that he could accidentally get to know her real identity didn't even hit him until Hawk Moth spotted the blue flash under the door of the bathroom which clearly indicated that the villian had transformed back into her true 'human' form.

"Shit." He quickly dunked his head down, but then realizing that he was too tall to fully hide his figure, Hawk Moth had to completely change plans.

The man's eyes worriedly searched around to find some wall that could cover him, except if Mayura would come even just a tiny bit close to her window she could see the villain's shadow, so there was no safe solution except leaving, but Gabriel didn't want to do that.

Without thinking much about it, he grabbed ahold of the window and magically lifted it open in order to squeeze himself into the living room of this unknown woman he was after.

There, knowing damn well this was incredibly risky and illegal too, Hawk Moth had to throw himself onto the ground and attempt to hide under the couch, but it was already too late for that.

"Anyone here?!?!" A yell came from the bathroom.
It sounded nicer than Mayura's usually voice, nevertheless her tone was harsh and shrieking as of right now.
"Hello??!?"

The man before he would've been able to get down froze in the middle of the room and didn't dare to speak or move. He simply became a statue, standing awkwardly.

"Thought I heard something." Now a more quiet mumble said to herself while the bathroom door's handle began to get pushed down.

"WAIT!" Hawk Moth blurted out as he closed his eyes and placed his hands in front of his eyes so he wouldn't see her "IM HERE! PLEASE DONT COME OUT MAYURA! IM NOT ALLOWED TO SEE WHO YOU REALLY ARE!"

"WHAT?!?" The bathroom door immediately slammed back shut. "I-IT'S YOU HAWKY?!?!"

"Y-yes."

"WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU IN MY APARTMENT?!?!" Her voice screamed "HOW THE FUCK DID YOU EVEN GET HERE?!?!"

"I-I-I followed you! A-and you didn't hear s-so-...I was scared you might see me outside your window and think I'm some pervert spying on you-"

"-SO BREAKING INTO MY APARTMENT WAS THE BETER OPTION?!?!" She cut him off enraged "BECAUSE NOW YOU DONT ONLY SEEM LIKE A PERVERT BUT ALSO A PSYCHOPATH!!"

"I-I am sorry I didn't mean to! I-"

"OF COURSE YOU DID!!" The woman didn't at all allow Hawk Moth to speak, she kept shouting over his weak, pleading voice, which only worsened the situation for him.
"WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU EVEN FOLLOW ME IN THE FIRST PLACE IF YOURE NOT A PSYCHO?!?!"

"I-...I just-...I honestly d-don't know-..."

"REALLY?!?!"

"Yes really I swear!" The man finally managed to raise his voice a little "But I had no bad intentions! I was simply-...lonely-..."

"Ah great!" She laughed at his pathetic excuse "So you think I'm some fucking doll to use or what?!?!"

"No no no! Mayura I genuinely love your company and I didn't mean to piss you off earlier or now." He sighed knowing he couldn't find a way to explain himself. So Hawk Moth simply said what he felt the truth to him was.
"I just-...you make me feel happy and I don't want to loose you!" He smiled at the end, waiting for a sweet reply, but all he got was the bathroom door slamming open and his partner staring him dead in the eyes.

"Well stop obsessing over me!" Mayura (now transformed into her villain self) stepped out of the bathroom.
"This is getting out of hand and you make me feel uncomfortable with your spying!"

"I-I'm sorry...I know this was too much" the man watched her pass by him, coldly. "I didn't want to hurt you-...so I promise I won't do it again."

"Good!" Mayura stopped behind the man, making him turn around and when his attention was all hers, the woman lifted the window open "Now get out!"

"Mayura please" the moth man whined "give me a few second. I don't want to end this night with bad terms between the two of us. I-"

"-okay." She cut him off, closing the window before sighing in an exhausted manner "what do you want then?" Her voice spat and her facial expressions scared him.

Nevertheless Hawk Moth had to collect himself in order to say what he truly wanted to tell her.
The villain knew that this might be his very last time to be with his partner before she'd 'run away', so he had to make sure he would say all that he wanted.

However Mayura didn't look as emotional as the man did. Her glare was harsh and her eyes pierced him.

"What do you want?!" She asked again.
So Hawk Moth took a deep breath in before awkwardly sitting down on her couch, folding one leg over the other so he wouldn't look so stupidly compressed and then looking up at the woman who's stare at him just became more judgmental.

"Hawky what the-"

"-Mayura" he cut her off, this time actually making her shut up and listen to him "I apologize for everything-"

"-get to the point!" Her attitude came back which drew a tiny smile onto Hawk Moth's face, but in a matter of seconds his expression became serious again.
He couldn't waste any more time, he had to answer.
It was a now or never situation.

"I want to stay."

Note: in this book Gabriel doesn't know where his assistant (Nathalie) lives, therefore Hawk Moth didn't "recognize" that the apartment he broke into was Nathalie's. So they still don't know each other's identities!
